Taunts in Cyrodiil. Just a thought...

With so many nerf NB/Buff DK threads, I had a thought about something that might make a tanky character (like a DK is supposed to be) an actual tank in PvP. It might be wildly hard to implement, but here goes (also might have been discussed before or done in other games, I really dont know):

The goal is to make a taunt actually work in PvP. Lets say I am in a group of 4 people running in Cyrodiil, and I am the "tank." I cast a Pierce Armor on someone and the taunt part is essentially worthless. What if instead, it either gave a damage shield/dodge chance to the rest of the group specific to the taunted players attacks, or the more extreme, it cloaked them. That way a tank could actually hold threat. It would probably need to be specific to your group and have a player cap. There would obviously be balance issues that would need addressed, and I don't think any of these effects could last very long, but it might be interesting.

So, one of the mechanisms that another popular MMO used to garner player attention was to have the taunt debuff your tauntee's attack power against everyone but the taunter.

Thus to gain back full attack power, they needed to focus on the taunter or fight at a disadvantage.

    Just a thought.

Otherwise, could use depth of field and focus. Taunter is in focus while the other targets have a diffused focus.
Due to a typo in the system, the area was accosted by the Daedric Prince Moar Lag Brawls.

I posted a similar thread a while back, it's something that should happen imo.

that would be awesome yet aweful if the one taunting is a Dk tank as the emperor  but would still be fun haha

That is also a neat Idea. I just feel like the problem with tanks is they cant hold threat. If I see a "tank" on the battlefield, I generally simply ignore them until they are the last one standing.

To be an effective tank you need to meet some specific goal's. Here's a story of my encounter of a team that was trying to do this.

There was a Templar Tank, A Sorcerer, A hidden blade nightblade and a Solar Flare Templar.

The Templar Tank came at us first, he could easily tank 6 people without dieing. Not sure the move he was using but it was an AoE burst with a wired sound. He was very tanky none the less. He would actually kill off any melee who stood in the AoE spam for to long.

The Sorc would then set mine's and use suppression fire to help his tank. After 10 second's of the engagement the other two in his group did something fun. The Ranged Templar teamed up with the Sorc and hit us from range. The nightblade however flanked us and spammed hidden blade. It wasn't until after i noticed i was taking damage that he was there poking at us. Hidden Blade is one of the only abilities in the game that are very very hard to see.

There team was well organized but had one flaw. Easy to prioritize target's with Console Area Chat.

In short, i yelled in area chat to ignore the tank player and kill off everyone else. We then killed off everyone and saved the tank for last. This team kept coming back and we repeated this same tactic and won every time without a single death on our team. It was a 6v6 battle. The 6 with me were random's but we worked well together.

So is tanking effective in pvp? Depend's. If your enemy is stupid enough to focus the tank and completely tunnel vision until the tank is dead it work's well.

How could tanking be more useful? Well tanking is useful if planned right. The team we were against made sure we focused the tank early on and then slowly started popping out. The problem with this is it's easy to just ditch the tank and deal with him later. That's one of the flaw's of tanking in pvp.

I think Tank's should have reduced CC cost's for abilities. So they can "control" the battle with much more ease. If for instance there was hard CC ability's for tank's which would be casted frequently, this would be the best option. Heavy Armour need's a ton more cost reducing on these type's of ability's.

A Tank could technically "Hold Threat" because you would be consistently CC'd and want to get away from the Tank or you'll have no resource's to fight back. This is where you would be forced to focus the tank.

The tank then "become's the threat". Tank's should be CC machine's.

When i made a nightblade stamina tank build this is what i do. I stay on my target and none stop fear all my enemy's until i get focused. That's where i think tanking in pvp shine's.

A tank's best way to get player aggro is to be an annoying ***. Be that guy who says he can 1v1 the emp. If you're a sorc tank then encase is your friend, which is good because in the process of spamming it you'll lose all your other friends. If you're a DK toss out those dark talons like there's nothing else you've ever wanted to do with your life. If you're a night blade, you must learn to master the art of spambush and lotus spam. Lotus spam preferably, that snare's a ***. Get soul tether too, for that annoying area CC. If you're a Templar, just do what feels right and spam jabs forever.

Oh, and no matter what class you are, go up to everyone in sight and just hammer that reverberating bash button. Doesn't even matter if they have CC immunity, just keep on pressing that button in between your jabs, encase, talons or ambush spam. You'll have both opposing factions making truces to do nothing but kill you for hours in no time, I swear.

SWTOR did Taunts and Guard very well. Taunts debuffed your target and reduced damage and Guard diverted a % of damage to you when you had an ally guarded. Smart move for PvP as well as PvE.

So you want to buff ball groups and zergs?

Tactics could vary.I assume that you are referring to tanks at the front spitting to generate damage mitigation for the ball.

Counter to that of course would be a spit and run maneuver.

Additionally, it doesn't remove damage dealing, it degrades it.

Hate to say it a ball group has consumed every anti-zerg tactic that ZOS has thrown at them and made it their own.

My suggestion of making soul shatter when it was on death have no cap and multiplicative in damage was ignored. If that had been implemented then level 10s with soul trap slotted would have been able to shred zergs and thus caused a diffusion.

Why can't taunt be like NB fear? So the player looses control of the character unless they break the cc. Then instead of run away they run towards the person taunting.

Undaunted range taunt on range Sorcs and bow users, licks lips.

The game was never tank focused you can run nearly every vet dungeon without one an vMA is nothing but a dps race. If you want to stand still blocking and expect to be successful at anything other than being a nuisance this game is really that. In wow where tanks do say 1/2 the damage of dps but absorb 2x sure but that game also has much better balance mechanics that this game hasn't even considered yet. The point of pvp is to kill the point of a tank is to not die. Something has to give.

what if when you used a taunt ability it either made you "GLOW" for the person you taunted, or the entire group of people in the area of the taunted player. would be like hey lets go attack that giant ball of red.or whatever color would be used. All tat the same time it could buff your group as long as you're alive, making it worth while for the group to attack and kill you first.

This right here would REALLY REALLY REALLY help. They also need to fix how much damage penetration currently exists. As a tank rocking 32k on both resists I still get cut like butter with a hot knife. I sacrifice everything to be tanky, so I have no damage and yet still die too easy. Overall combat in this game is horrible and I haven't really played lately because I can't stand how unbalanced it is.

I liked how Warhammer Online did tanks in pvp. With blocking up it increased the defenses of players behind him.
