Best bet is to play both as you enjoy it and not get too sucked into the inter-guild rivalries and in faction dramas.

Find a decent guild that has good PvP raids/events BUT... and this is key... also is able to laugh together.

(And yes some hardcore PvPers are like that)

I am still fairly new to Pvp but have enjoyed it immensely, feel text chat is needed hugely. I do t have all the skills I want in assault or support yet but slowly getting there.

I dont see that one is better than the other they are both as much fun as the other :)

I enjoy both PvP and PvE aswell, though I do tend to see a trend where the PvE community is trying to be rational about the PvE/PvP discussions and where PvPers act like 5 year olds who never learned how to present an argument. I think this happens because the PvP enviroment in general has more feelings involved since you're playing against other people, and this is prone to breed more toxic behaviour than PvE, though I do have to admit that guild versus guild beef is not uncommon in the competetive PvE scene.

A lot of the really good PvEers are also good PvPers because of their mastery of the class they play and in depth knowledge of the game mechanics. As such you will often see the best raiders in the game also PvP a lot, both styles of play have similar skills or personal attributes that you need to excel within each respective area.

Lately I have not been enjoying PvP as much as I used to, being a Templar and all, but I hope that will change soon. Had I rolled my main a nightblade I would've probably been too busy ganking in Cyrodiil at the moment to even have noticed this thread.

In any case don't let the haters dictate what is hardest, best or most skillful, play how you want to, as I am sure you already do. :D

This is a pretty close assessment. I would add that this is very much a psychological question. The person behind the PVP player is often more aggressive natured than your laid back "casual" PVE players. They are much quicker to attack (verbally and written). PVP in gaming is a good outlet for aggressive personalities so they can take out their frustrations and/or aggressions in a virtual environment. There have been a few studies on this and I will see if I can dig one or two up.

I also think people don't realize that 90% of PvPers that seem combative or intense on the forums are just playing around. Maybe just trying to get a rise out of people. Forum PvP if you will. People don't recognize a joke and get super defensive.

Most PvPers, especially the good ones, are pretty laid back and generally very nice and helpful people.

I do realize that, but I don't approve of it nonetheless. Making a "fight" out of any possible open discussion which is meant to exchange points of view is derailing the purpose of the forums and destroying other people's threads. I hate that behaviour.

Subject is very sensitive. Admittedly, I know quite a few PvPers in the game (via guilds and groups and all) who are absolutely adorable. But also a few others that I stay as far away as possible from. As far as leaving group and leaving TS channel whenever they appear.

To summarize, I'd say that I assume that a PvEer is a nice person until he proves otherwise, and that a PvPer (or someone who does both) is not a nice person, until he proves otherwise. PvPers' behavior on this forum counts for a lot in this negative image.

Seriously people, this is nothing which would lead to a fruitful discussion. Both is part of the game, we knew before we joined the game, that Cyrrodil will be contested with the alliance war, but the rest of Tamriel is pvp-free and made for exploration and PvE. I like this concept, this game would be a pain in the ... if there would be PvP everywhere. TES was always about role play, exploration and enjoying the beauty of what Bethesda or in this case ZOS has created, with interesting lore and some good storytelling. And to be able to enjoy this to the most, it requires to be free from pvp, that is why it is not pvp-enabled.

So let's just stick to the concept of this game - pvp in Cyrrodil, rest is pvp-free - there is nothing to discuss any further IMO.

It seems I've played out the PvE content.
Personally I don't find PvP (as-is) consistently enjoyable.

I go more toward PvE and doing my own thing. I don't really care for the massive PvP battles and such in Cyrodiil (idea is great though). However, I'm completely open and am almost impossible to kill in 1v1 PvP fights or even 2v1 (depending on the enemy players' classes and loadouts).

I've had fights which lasted for a good 30 minutes with other enemy players until finally I decided to flee and hide just to end it all. (Due to being an experienced TES player, I'm use to how to get around the terrain and such so I can get out of situations really easily and disappear while they are trying to figure out how I did so).

Sometimes I'll win too, sometimes I'll die.

The biggest problem with the PvP aspect though is it's too friendly toward attackers and too harsh toward defenders when it comes to player-fighting. What I mean is, if you attack the player first, you have a higher chance of winning the fight than them.

Though, my biggest dislike in PvP are pure PvP people. Which isn't the game's fault, just the players themselves. For example, I follow the idea of letting other people doing their own thing and if they attack me. I'll fight back. There has been a few times where an enemy player was collecting a skyshard or doing something else which would completely give me the attacking edge on them but I simply ignore them and continue my own path, going to the next skyshard location or doing a quest. However, that player feels like being an "donkey" (I don't wish to swear) and chase me down for a fight, even though I gave them a free card.

Gotta admit, I do laugh when I win these fights because of "should've taken the free card" thought.

Then again, I hadn't been to Cyrodiil in a long time. This was awhile ago before I've gotten my character much more set-up and powerful. My wins were kinda rare honestly due to not being fully set-up. Really need to go exploring again in Cyrodiil. There's a small handful of shards I didn't got in the Daggerfall Covenant area.

Most pvp players I kow like it when a player fights back.
Most PvP players I see like to strike from invisibility, from behind or when a victim is involved in a fight, so that the victim is dead before it can fight back. I have never seen more cowardly PvP fights than in ESO where even an entire DLC is designed to reward riskless ganking.

You are talking about gankers, I was talking about pvp players.

Actually,I am a PvEer and am anything but casual.I play every day for hours.I dont consider that very casual.
There's room for both PvE and PvP.It's just that people here feel the need to make it all one or the other instead of sharing the game.I've never understood why.

    @Sallington

Exactly, I tend to get board when not online, work is a means to an end, but work with an internet connection and my monitor facing away from the bosses view is a way to continue the online campain from my desk.

Generally PvP forums are made up of 7 stereotypes.
    1. The younger gamer, angry and not yet wise in the ways of the forum "bait 'n troll"
    2. The older more jaded player, more literate who uses people found in the first catagory as targets for his barbs.
    3. The "name" the player who feels they are famous on their server/shard/campaign (whatever) and just talks for the sake of it. (this category is generally found with the next category)
    4. The "folllower" the people who will post in agreement with the "name" no matter what he says. (categories 3 and 4 generally make no actual contributuion to a post)
    5. The "Sock Puppet" Normally a second account created by categories 1 3 and 4 to backup their own posts. Easily discovered becasue people cant actually write in different styles. (especially when its sometimes their second language)
    6. The "Wise One". Age indiscrimiante, but anathma to a large section of the readerbase due to his/her non-partisan and non-agressive writing style. Normally talks sense, gets a lot of "names" backing them as they recognise a superior forum force that may damage their own reputaion if crossed. General feeling is this is a PvE player who got lost and posted in the wrong forum (maybe from the wrong game all together)
    7. The "Mod" very rarly found in PvP forums. Generally when automated scripts pick up on blatent swearwords or when the complaints get to high for their trash folder in their inbox to handle. The Mod will come in and slap some of the accounts down, but little else. Its not like anyone important actually reads the trash found in here anyway.

MOST pvpers are good players, and good people I completely agree. The issue is not the goofballs trolling forums, it's the people that you see that go around in the forums literally saying things like "PvE players don't matter". These are generally those who rile up people who avoid pvp, especially given the content of this game is mostly PvE and it has a large pve community. Even the "Pvp" content had a lot of pve in it. Annoyingly so in my opinion, but I digress.

The issue on the PvE side are those who blame literally EVERYTHING on the pvp community and also treat those who pvp like bloodthirsty socialpaths whom aren't "the majority" so they don't matter, and should just feel lucky to play "our game where you're an afterthought". However these viewpoints are also a minority. Most pvers who never touch pvp still want pvpers to have a good experience.

So, in short, it isn't really "PvErs, or PvPers" who are the issue. It's the immature who can't see this is a game where both aspects are designed to be important, and things need to be worked on with players with experience in both to fully make it a great game. Designing it from only one perspective would just make it lazy. I don't expect things to change, but I think it would be nice to see both working together to make the game better, rather than fighting like back-alley cats.

I'd be happy if they just separated PvP and PvE so that when you went into cyrodiil/IC you'll get a separate set of skills, they can be the same, just balanced for PvP, while outside cyrodiil/IC there's another set balanced for PvE. As zenimax have shown that they can't balance anything at all the way it is now, so something big must happen for it to be able to be balanced.

One huge reason why i dont PvP(other then getting Vigor and Caltrops), its becusea my PC is toast. Rest are some really bad(for me) mechanics in game that wont change. I do like the atmosphere of medieval war with some magic in it.
The PvP and PvE war is silly. Cmon, when i kill someone he is scrub, when i get killed by someone, i make thread how OP class or ability is :)
PvE is slowly dying, of course we got "new content" but there is no point to go to other zones then get skyshards/lore books and some xp/farming 9th trait(Craglorn). In PvE you wont get so much "freedom" when it comes to sets or gear in general, abilites and playstyle(try vMA with sword and shield). Story is ok but when i see next village or town rundown by daedra/bandits i want to smack my head into a wall. From what i have seen so far in Cyro PvE, story is much more intresting then rest of Tamriel.
If you like PvP go and do PvP
If you like PvE go and do PvE

The only well-balanced MMO is IMO EVE online. But the Devs there are well aware of that balancing is an ongoing thing and not something to do and forget about it. This means, they have the monitoring tools and statistics available to be able to make adjustments, so that all is in a balance again and this has to happen once in a while repeatedly or it will get unbalanced again. Balancing is dynamic, Devs balance, players adjust, it is again unbalanced and has to be re-balanced and this never ends. As long as ZOS is not realizing this and invests into proper tools and people capable to do a reasonable balancing on a regular shedule, not much will change to the better in the matter.
