But why we have to "pay the price" for whatever happened, could've happened or didn't happen at all to EU Server?

Thank you for the up-date on ETA. I for one wish you all the time you need to do the things needed right.
And thank all of you at Zos for your hard work. There are still some of us who appreciate the great game you have given us.

This is really pathetic. No maintenance should take this long and now the NA server has to wait until the EU server is re-booted. Priceless.

So EU will go down at 2:30 PM EST for an hour, and NA will come back up after that. So we're looking at 3:30 PM EST or so for NA's restoration?

Roughly, yes. We want to make sure all issues are clear on PC EU first before bringing PC NA back up, so while it may not be exactly an hour, that's a decent estimate at this time.

Sounds to me Gina like you don't have proper redundancies. These downtimes are atrocious. Either your IT server team needs to be replaced, or their budget is a joke. How many years can we continue pretending this is OK?

Also, keep in mind that Gina is just the Community Forum person, and giving us the current PLAN. The situation may change without her being informed (until later). There have been similar situations in the past where the order of recovery changed, and the NA megaserver was available for end users sooner than expected. So keep your launcher up anyway, if you have the screenspace :)

There are plenty of competent server engineers that you should hire and layoff the current staff. I know if I went to my boss and said "Hey guys sorry no server access today I hit a "snag" last night" I'd be looking for a new job

    Just curious here...

What would you do if they posted a huge detailed post regarding how a specific line of code did something unexpected, had to be located, fixed, and then redeployed? How much more "informative" would that be to a common player? Snag is an easier and more efficient way of describing the problem.

No one wants to read a big boring technical post, that has nothing regarding our game play experience in it.

To be fair, I suspect a lot of people would be more forgiving of the developers tossing around terms like "snag" if those developers were more forthcoming with, for example, upcoming class changes, responding to feedback, ETAs on bug fixes, etc.

It's the complete and utter lack of transparency that causes many players to become upset at otherwise trivial things.

Short answer is DKs likely won't be seeing a ton of changes before we go live; this class is still quite powerful (as it should be being a tank), even after some of the adjustments we've made to other classes and abilities.

Any player can make this in two days, playing casually, just by doing regular quest. Dedicated players, in dedicated trading guilds make much more than that, although maybe not so quickly.

IMHO, a REAL "apology" would be do something REALLY useful for the end-game POV

It would be cool to get both an in depth maintenance post and a non-in depth, I'd enjoy reading it.

As for the "snag", I think a Dark Anchor is attached to the NA Megaserver and Zenimax is fighting it off or... somehow the server got turned into cheese!

But that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying this maintenance has no impact on game changes according to ZoS. So, what would you do if they were to post a big post about a piece of server code, that might be used in all manner of server applications? It wouldn't "clear" anything up for the average ESO player.

And imagine if they were more open. The rage you'd see on the forums for them changing their minds, or not fulfilling their time lines would be so great, even Obi Wan Kenobi would feel the ripples in the force.

Not sure if anyone knows, but ESO's servers are made using Lego's. Maybe that is what is causing lag.

So over 13 hours of downtime, brilliant. Sigh, really sucks. I am not one to complain much, but last time it was over the top, I thought you guys would have learned a thing or two to keep it all somewhat saner.

98% of the time the game works very well for me. I play in all areas (PVP/PVE) and at different times. I'm a long way from the servers with average 300ms pings or worse. When I do have problems they are the same (lag, long load screens, disconnected sessions, although crashes are rare).

Then again; Microsoft Office apps work 98% of the time too.

There is a balance between working on new content and fixing problems. I think they have it almost right. Just a little more on the problems to get it to 99% would be awesome!

I wouldn't want to be mean or rude to someone just doing their jobs and all, but I can't help but wonder...maybe it'd better if ZOS did NOT do maintenance at all(well unless actual new content)? They rarely fix anything, frequently break things and well 12 hours is a bit too much for not fixing anything.

But what I'm saying is that regardless of the impact maintenance has on game changes, it's their general lack of transparency that causes people to seize on all of the other ambiguous and meaningless comments. And as for your straw-man argument, I'm sure there's some sort of middle ground between saying "Whoops we hit a snag," and a 50-page technical report of server code detailing the problem.

Actually I can image more openness and I imagine the exact opposite. I think you'd see less rage and more understanding from the players if the developers communicated to them what was happening and why. I think players would be understanding if the developers actually took the time to discuss spellcrafting, for example, and why it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. ZoS might have a perfectly rational reason--but we'll never know because they don't communicate it to us.
