I know a lot of downtime usually means software updates- which many times do not always go as planned- along with server replacement, data backup, etc. It seems like every time one of these maintenance sessions goes this long, it never is a good thing and typically means something has gone wrong and they're trying to fix it. Like a couple of times I recall they had to bring servers down again the following day to finish what they had previously started the day before.
In any case, idle hands are the devils playground, and with the game being down so long players tend to take out their frustrations in the forums.

Are you replacing the servers or something? What maintenance takes 9 hours?

Holy crap....1pm? 9 hours, if we're lucky, for maintenance to be completed? Sweet merciful Jesus.
Are you just going to whine and moan all day? Are you capable of happy feelings?

Patches are easily downloaded and played quickly and they even have a new feature now that allows for playing even while downloading so long as you have downloaded up to a certain percentage.
I may be playing this game now, but that don't mean I cannot miss some things from other games.
/me goes out for a coffee

Also, @Gelston is correct in that this week's maintenance does not include a patch, but is only back end work. We're looking at next Monday to potentially have another PC incremental patch, and later this month for consoles.

So yes it is indeed ZoS fault when it comes to this matter, it's taking ZoS more time to produce a patch (which is entirely the same) for the console platform.
I'll have to assume they'll end up releasing it last week of January when thieves guild comes out for PC. So basically we'll have to wait for the DLC to drop when till we receive two important things that help improve the awful performance in cyrodiil and RNG in vMA.

Ahh I reason I love the forums on maintenance day.
