Why does refining mats no longer yield high quality upgrade mats?

Honestly, I cant remember the last time I got a orange...(T-alloy or wax)

I know they got ninja nerfed a while back to battle the pig farming exploit, but can we change it back now?

I used to get maybe 2 every 100 or so? Nothing crazy, but I was getting something.

Now I can do a stack of 300 without getting ANYTHING decent (MAYBE a purple)

You have to do the writs
Or have tons of gold and buy up all the gold mats in guild stores, then up the price on everyone

I`m surprised they haven`t starting selling Kutas, Rosin, Tempering Alloy, or Dreugh Wax in the Crown Cash store yet.

I am able to get them, but it's still low. Like maybe refining 150 raw mats and will get one gold. Except for in woodworking...I can't get a rosin to save my life. But yeah, it would be nice for it to be a liiiiiiittle more common.

Just RNG. It hates you. But she is a fickle thing and will eventually give you some attention.

I get about 1 gold every 100.

Perfect Roe... well. RNG has not been kind

I dont even bother for the Roe now...I have probably 5 stacks of 200 to cut up....but the time it takes is not worth it,,,,

and i WISH i got 1 every 100...I would be fine with that....but that is so not the case with me....

I had about 5 of each wrothgar survey saved up, by the time I was done I had about 150-250 raw mats for each (silk, rubedite and ruby ash)

Not ONE from all of them combined...that is ridicules....

Do you have the points in the Extraction Passives for the stuff your refining?

Oh yeah, maxed to the max.

I know it got ninja nerfed a few months back, it is impossible it didnt.

Recently I've been getting above average (for me).

But it's all RNG and it's all relative. I've seen so many threads about drop rates not being what they were that leave me thinking "But I never got that much to start with".

I suspect what appears to be a stealth nerf is really just a shift in the RNG gods favours...

I recently deleted a VR12 toon (I'm switching all my toons to DC eventually) and started playing her replacement. I've been very aggressive in gathering mats which I give to my master craftsmen and have been surprised at the results. 4-6 gold tempers in each category (metal, wood, cloth). And that's just from one toon harvesting nodes and getting to level 30 in 3 days. It seems to me that if you put time and effort into farming nodes the gold tempers are out there. Yeah, it's all at the whim of RNGeezus but this does seem to be one place where it kind of sort of like maybe works.

When you stop "trying" to get stuff, the game becomes much more fun. Not a comment about the OP, just a self-reflection. I was trying to get gear, helms, etc. Now I just do whatever and I refine as I go, and I skin the 15-20 fish after each hole is dried up. If I don't get something, well it was a small stack. If I do get something, then Woohoo!!

Why keep track? It's like watching a clock tick by....

For many months now (as in: since IC or earlier) I've been getting gold upgrade mats at a rate of roughly 5%. So for every 20 refines I tend to get 1 gold. I'm pretty sure that's the intended rate, and it seems to be consistent with the rates I've seen people post when they actually track all of the refine attempts. It definitely hasn't changed for me lately.

I had a big drought of gold tempers from refining a couple weeks ago, but as of last week things seem to be back to normal and the golds are (slowly) rolling in again.

RNG is like that: random. Random means some long stretches of poor returns and other times getting 5 tempering alloys from one stack of ore. It should even out over the entire population over time, but you might end up getting the short end of that stick for awhile.

I'm getting same as always. Like 1/100 golds when refining give or take.

Rng in ESO seems to be on some kind of timer, so I usually stack up on loads of raw mats, than try a few refines like 5-6 max. If it's just giving basic materials and no extras I stop. Than try again a few minutes or hours later, until I seem to hit the rngs "gold timer", than I press refine like mad until it goes back to only giving basic like cloth. This does seems to improve my lucky with getting purple and gold materials. I also seem to have better luck refining outside of primetime, so I do it just as I log in our before I go to bed.

But this is only my own experience of course. I might be delusion, cant day for sure it actually works

This sounds remarkably like a gambler having a "lucky streak." Not that trying to play against your streaks is bad, I'll walk away from a table if I'm losing my shirt... but any appearance of order in the behavior of the RNG is almost assuredly in your mind alone.

I share your theory. When I can force myself to be patient I try to do the same.

People were saying there is a motif timer. Maybe there is a timer for other rare irems too?

yes I noticed this too. The rate seems to have been stealth-nerfed. Used to get at least one or two(sometimes more) golds from a stack of unrefined mats. Now, it takes 2 stacks to get 1
