Console Text Chat yet?

I can't wait to see Rocket League release on XB1 and have text chat like it does on PC/PS4 already. Also, Warframe has non-buggy text chat on consoles so it is possible even on XB1.

Why do people want text chat so badly? I can understand if you don't have a headset or whatever. But who willingly wants to take the time to type out a damn message on their controller. Just give us Zone wide game chat.

question are you actually on console?
the problem of voice chat being the only way to communicate in game:
    1. area chat has to be in a small area's which makes finding people to play/communicate with harder. text can be in a larger area which leads to finding help faster
    2. having to many people in the same chat makes the chat useless because there is so mutch noise that you can't hear anything. this counts for area chat in city (where there are also trolls who scream and put music on blasters for no other reason then to annoy others) as in guild chat in the larger guild which leads to less people being in guild chat. when there is guildchat is often empty as result of this people will have less incentive to check the guild chats to see if people are actually there so it will go down a downward spiral fast. doesn't have to but i have seen it happen, even ZoS knows this and made them divide the guildchat up to 4 rooms, but i haven't seen a single guild using more then one room with max 3-4 people using it.
    3. people not having a headset or having anxiety issues won't be able to have any communicate, also people with family's like little children have staten this is the reason they wont use the voice chat.
    4. people not having their chat on. main reason of this is because the spamming in city's but this makes meeting new people in the game harder then it should be. ZoS wanted to make a MMO, make sure that playing with others is a rewarding experience.
    5. chatting with a stranger online feels more natural to me then actually speaking
    6. easyer for people who aren't native english to make clear what they mean. (no accent for example)

Yes i am on consul. Treat the Zone chat like guild chat. multiple channels, or they could also label them Zone Chat. Zone LFG Chat, Zone Auction Chat.

Its quite simple. I play just fine with little kids of my own. If and when i do play while they're awake i do Solo stuff. I don't have an answer for you about the people with Anxiety issues. which is really the only that makes sense. if youre not native to english and theres text chat what good is that? now ZoS has to also implement a translation system?

Spamming chat in the city will be easier with text chat. now you'll have people selling gold for real money like crazy and text based spam. Mute the people who spam voice chat. its not difficult.

All you can hear on the Voice Chat is MUSIC....

On PC you can chat and relax with Guildmembers or in Zone Chat.

I dont like the idea of zone chat. People just troll there, people start to sell their stuff there. Sure, Guild Recruiting is much better at zone chat, but I think Guilds should be able to hire NPC Guild Recruitters for themselves and they do the invitation. They could use the same NPC Recruiter system for Cyrodil too, to find a group/raid. NPC Guild Recruiters could add more depth to the guild structure too, when its good time to hire NPC, and where to put it, Id imagine Guild Leaders would love to do that, not to mention no need to spam the zone chat for hours.

Yeah zos don't have any good reasons other their own shortcomings as developers.... every other mmo game on console has a variant of text chat.. oh and much better group finder systems... only exception to this is destiny and my god does that game need new social abilities..

And to the people who don't want it... don't use it... to the people who don't want to buy a keyboard... I'm sure that 90 dollar headset is getting you instant groups and help... and to the people who are concerned it breaks their eso immersion... so does a 15 year old running in town shouting I have aids

For me personally, playing an MMO is about social interaction with other players, finding those you get on with and then doing content with them. Text chat is the perfect way to instigate that process. Voice chat as implemented in ESO is not. I am sure if you are playing with real life friends or buddies on your PS4 friends list ... Voice chat could work for running dungeons etc.

But for me, as a lone player, looking to find people to enjoy the game with especially pve group content ESO console has proved very challenging. It feels like I am playing a single player game set in a multiplayer environment. Voice chat for me does not work.

Looking for an 8 trait crafter not sure how else to find one on console.
    #1
    December 25

I just pulled the above off the crafting section of the forum, and really brings home the difficulty of playing ESO on a console. Typically for the above you would use in game text chat to ask around in social hubs of an MMO for this sort of activity. Zenomax must of considered this, I would really like to understand how they expected players to use area voice chat for searching for crafters... Groups...finding a guild that suites you (and not just saying yes to "QuteQuddly_66" when he runs past you and drops a guild invite on you)

I am completely baffled at ESO having no text chat for console users. Coming here from FFXIV on console to try something new, I never in a million years would've thought this feature would be missing. I've played MMORPGs for 12+ years, and text chat functionality is a MUST. None of the "reasons" from ESO devs make sense, especially when I just came from playing FFXIV on my PS4. I used a cheap USB keyboard along with my controller.

This is my first week playing ESO, though as I mentioned, I'm not new to MMORPGs. I don't know how long I'm going to be able to stick with ESO after finding this out - quite frankly, I feel gimped as a console player without text chat. Sure I have voice chat options, but I hate them - and apparently so does most people, since area voice chat MAYBE has 2-3 people in it at any given time. I'd like at least the option to use text chat since it's already a feature in the PC version, and proven to work in other console MMOs just fine. (And as the screenshots above show, too.)

I like the feel of the game overall, except the feeling of isolation without text chat. I run into other people all over the place, but don't feel like I have a viable way to communicate. Quick chat is limited, there are 38585930847374859 reasons why voice chat isn't viable, and I feel disconnected without the ability to connect with others in the zone. I enjoyed random conversations in zone chat from other games - answering questions, making new friends, finding people to group up or offer advice... it's what builds community in a game. It sucks when a specific population of players are isolated from that experience.

If playing on a PC was an option, I'd do it. But frankly I shouldn't have to play the game on one system over another due to a lack of a crucial piece of MMORPG functionality.

    sigh.

Need for speed most wanted 510 for psp had a text chat room for all players and that game came out in 2005. Dust 514 for ps3 beats this game's social aspect by a mile it is not even comparable the difference is night and day. ESO not having at least a text chat for consoles is completely ludicrous.

Almost word for word my experience too. Played MMO's since Ultima Online in the late 90's. First console MMO I tried was FF14 on PS4 and functionally it was very good just didn't like the lore. Then I came to ESO on PS4. At first I genuinely thought I had missed some option check on the UI to turn the text chat interface on, but sadly it's just not there.

    Ez

Right? I mean... SURELY it's here somewhere! I searched and searched all of my game options before finally looking online.

    I was stunned.

And like I said, if PC were an option right now (PC MASTER RACE OMG!) I would play ESO on PC, but that's just not possible for me right now. What blows me away is that ESO is offered on multiple platforms to give MORE people access to the game, but not all platforms are given the same functionality, so instead, LESS people are able to access a huge part of what makes this game an MMORPG, and its community. How is that REALLY supporting that you offer your game on multiple platforms when CLEARLY one whole group of people that play your game are socially gimped and cut off from the community? I bet any dev that uses the excuse that the built-in voice chat options make it "equal" for console players to communicate...

A ) Doesn't play on console ever OR
B ) if they do, they're playing with RL friends or a small dev group together at the same time with the intent to voice chat to test voice chat functionality.

That's great and all, if you play ESO with a regular group of RL friends or something, but most of us don't. So it makes meeting people, making random friends from zone-wide text chat conversations, and getting involved in the community really difficult.

Last night I checked out area voice chat in a zone with TONS of people running around actively. 4 people were in voice chat, including myself. I heard someone start chatting and got excited - until I realized it was a kid's mom telling him to take out the trash, and the kid arguing back with his mom, completely oblivious to the fact that he was being picked up on voice chat. So the ONE time I see someone actually using voice chat, it was by accident. The voice chat channels are barren compared to the amount of people I see wandering around in the zone. Even if *I* were actively using voice chat, what's the point when pretty much no one else is in voice chat to engage with? I'd just be talking to myself. I can do that without a mic.

    Dear Devs,
I'm sure your reasons for not including text chat on consoles in the very beginning were good in theory. However, it's time to admit after so long that you were wrong, and just give console players text chat. Your voice-chat-only feature for console players just isn't being used like you hoped and is not the equivalent you thought it would be, and instead, the lack of access to the community for console players is having a negative effect on an entire population of people who really WANT to play and enjoy your game and be part of what looks to be a large and active community. Text chat for console players works great in other console MMOs. You can always add the ability to fade it out when not in use or hide it if people want or if they're/you're really that concerned about screen real estate, but at least give us that option? Please?
    OK good talk.

Nope Even if we have begged since the beta and people will keep requesting it.
