Console Text Chat yet?

I enjoyed this game when it first came out but then after awhile without Text Chat found the game to feel rather barren and isolating. I remember Text Chat for consoles was a very much needed and requested feature by many but it seemed like it all fell on deaf ears regarding the devs. Just wondering if anything has change since then? Has Text Chat been implemented or atleast in the works? Have the devs said anything about the subject? I'm not looking to start an argument thread or promote trolling.

Much thanks in advance to anyone who answers my questions.

Well that's disappointing to hear. Was really hoping there would have been something done about it by now. Oh well. Appreciate the quick reply dude.

They are afraid that their crappy voice chat on console will not be used. Oh wait most people already don’t use it.

Text would make grouping way to ez on console. Hence no one would use group finder. People that work on fixing group finder would have to do something else. Fix bugs or whatever

Biggest problem with ESO on consoles in my opinion. Feels like a single player game without text chat.

Unfortunately no. Also regarding if the devs have addressed it recently, that is also a resounding no. Nothing official at least.. Just tidbits from ESO live episodes

I play on PC, best to switch over to pc because its better anyways.
Well, I won't ever play on consoles because I still have xbox 360 and I don't use it much besides i won't play on something with games like this without text chat so lol. But on the other hand one day they might add text chat to consoles they would be forced to because of the everyone demanding it part, and people leaving it because of it.
But that none of my business really so, PC is for the win and will always come before consoles because of the ability to communicate.
But there is a chance they will never add it if they are firm on the issue no matter how many demand it. Most would either move to pc or leave the game and find something else if they play on consoles.

Unfortunately for those of us wanting text chat, ZOS has been silent about it here on the forums. They mentioned their half baked reasons in a couple of ESO live episodes that someone else continually regurgitates every time the text chat discussion comes up.

The bottom line to the anti-tc argument is that pc and console are so different that text chat shouldn't be used with console. Apparently in their eyes we already have all the tools we need between built in voice chat and the options provided to us by the consoles.

I say it's utter BS. It's not a pc or console thing. It's a MMO thing. In order to communicate with a mass amount of players zone wide, give a voice to the players that can't or won't speak, translate simple phrases to foreign languages, in my eyes text chat is a must.

Several responses have also been that if we wanted ESO with text chat, we should have bought it on pc. If that was an option, I wouldn't have waited a year to play it. I would have just bought it on pc to begin with. But NO just NO. This isn't even a valid argument against text chat. It's people running out of good points against text chat being implemented.
I want to change the world. I'm just to lazy to do it.

    Well, the game is like 80Gbs that would take a lot of space on a hard drive for console, they can easy implement chat options, but I think they took out the option to do so because the fact it would cause lots of issues. They could add limited chating for like say/yell/emote and if they ever do add it will most likely be that. Zone chat would be constant and a strain on the console players, because of the size of the game, they would need to reduce the harddrive space required for them. Its probaly why they refuse to address the issue because it would be a lot of work, and I guess they wanted it to feel more like a single player game :{

If text chat couldn't be implemented because of technical reasons, wouldn't ZOS have said so? Instead of the reasons they have given us?

I know nothing about programming myself, so I have no rebuttal to if it's a memory issue or not. What I do know is it isn't what ZOS has said. If they had said they are just not capable of it because of technical reasons, then I could slightly understand. But that's not the case here is it?

I don't know, but the devs have there own sense of how things should, be and who knows with them, But text chat is a must, have for consoles for reasons, but they just don't feel the need to implement it or as I said its more complicated because the size of the game and the way they designed it.
We do not know they don't tell players everything what company does that?
Well with consoles looking up xbox one hardrive and the one they show only has 500gbs, and only able to really store up to like 362gbs so yeah consoles are not as good as pcs me thinks.

There is a 1TB version of the XB1, plus they are expandable with external drives. I believe one of the arguments against text chat is the difference in screen distances from the viewer. Most PC players are just above an arms length away from their monitors. Console is anywhere from that distance to many feet away. The argument is that the text box would be hard to read. Many people call bs on this, but I actually believe it's true. It's the same reason why many of the graphics are oversized on console vs PC. Most people don't realize that even at the furthest settings you can't see your whole mount on screen with the console. There are many other differences, including the larger sized text boxes for everything else. I think that for text chat on screen to work, it would end up taking like 1/3 of the screen.

Every time this comes up I say the same thing.

DCUO a last gen PS3 game runing on easily a ten year old game engine has text chat, options to turn it of, hide it, create custom tabs, guild tabs etc.

It is complete rubbish consoles don't have it.

It also boils down to just not wanting to spend the man hours to implement it more then enough people have asked repeatedly for it to be addressed. It's just a matter of not wanting to at this point.

If you're wondering how text chat looks on a console here's a video I made in DCUO

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOSRlMxeNOA

I have played DCUO on console for years now and I can't even begin to imagine what the game would be like without text chat. It makes it easy to get into groups, trade with other players, asking for help and making new online friends. I have never had an issue with it. Also in video I show that you can adjust the size of the text box and text as well as at a single click of a button maximize it to full screen should you want. You can change the setting so its transparent or if you don't want it up at all you can simply turn it off.

DCUO is a last generation game, nearly 5 years old. I can't think of a single reason why ESO isn't capable of text chat or why it wouldn't be implemented.

That's how I met my DCUO league and most of my friends, putting together a raid group chatting in the LFG channel and years later I still play with them. And even tho we use mics as well we still use text chat whenever we arent grouped for something in particular.

It just makes me feel so sad to see how much potential this game has to be so much better, I would just like a valid response as to why they haven't put it in the game after so many people request it, like I want to see a zos member try and find a group to do their favorite dungeon, even with group finder its crappy

Yeah, this is solid. Thanks for the demo! It's hard to argue against something that works.

I wonder what it would take on their end to implement something like this. It could possibly be a really long term problem to solve. I work in an entertainment industry as well, and believe me, the creators really do love the game and want us to enjoy it. There's got to be something behind the decision to leave the discussion untouched. For all we know, there's someone's boss in a room just saying no every time it comes up.
