As a DK dps who uses Des/Res, I would tell that Healer to get bent. Not only can we slot utility damage like Ash Cloud on our resto bar, but my destro bar is good enough on its own to run any pve content in the game. Its my business if I want to swap bars for a Healing Ward. The extra time the boss fights are going to take bc I want to have self-preservation options, is less than the time it will take for that healer to run his mouth. I think healers and tanks are just salty that 99% of pve content can be cleared with 3 dps and 1 healer OR tank. No longer do we need both of you, please and thank you.

True story. I usually try to run 3 dps and a healer/tank or make it fun with 4 dps and self heals. If you haven't tried running with 4 dps, try it. It's extremely fun.

    Having a self-heal is allright.
Running 3 resto-skills and not doing damage because you feel a healer isn't.

A Sorcerer DD I know runs a restoration staff, he's a good player but for me it's a stupid choice
Go Destro for sustained DPS and DW for high damage\execute.
You have HoT in Surge\Degeneration, use that, for emergence burst healing we have a healer.

If the damage is good the tank can manage the adds and the healer won't die.
If the damage isn't good and the tank gets overwhelmed the healer might die.

Whenever i do pledges i always have a destruction staff on my main bar and Resto staff on my second bar. only run healing ward on my resto bar. there have however, been many times where my group has died leaving only me and a boss at like 30% health and i have been able to finish it because i can sustain myself and bring damage. healers have their job true enough and about 99% of the time i leave the healing to them, but when *** hits the fan, i better be able to deliver.

that's the way i see it anyway. regardless, no one has ever commented on me bringing my restoration staff.

As someone who has completed EVERY dung in the game several times as a Mag NB, there are a dozen diff times when i will equip a resto staff, either the fight requires an Off-heal, I need healing ward myself or the fight requires more sustain. If you run Destro/Resto then you can use your Resto Bar as you "Buff" Bar, Very Similar when I ran a Stam Temp I went DW/2H, and ONLY used the 2H for buffing and Execute.

Unsless I'm running with a group that I have ran with a lot (i.e. my vWGT/vICP run), I never trust a PUG heals outright. Not that they are bad, I just don't know yet. And Often when i do help heal the heals can do more DPS... we all win. If you think the heals job is purely heals and no damage you greatly mistaken as you will never survive the hardest dung unless you heals can damage too.

    Just sayin'.

Lol. I don't run dungeons but I've always found it amazing that so many people think "we got a healer" and they then believe they don't need to use any of their own defensive measures/heals themselves. Even in PvP.. lol

This is classic MMO syndrome from the old days when classes didn't have any real healing abilities. Now these players go into games where they can heal themselves, maybe not as good as a templar can, but still think that they should be healed by the Templar. As long as there are games that have a "healing class" with skills specialized in healing, this will always be the case. These people with this mentality know they have healing spells available to them, but won't sacrifice their magicka for a heal spell when they can just scream HEALS HEALS!

Personally, I think that @ZOS should have had better class healing and never put in a Restoration skill line. This would have made people self sufficient and we wouldn't have this issue.

Its insulting to the healer. Its saying

'Hey pal, I dont expect you to keep me alive or to buff me hardly at all through the dungeon. So I'm going to do your job for you.'

I absolutely hate nothing more than going into a pug as a DK healer and getting blamed for deaths when dpsers are trying to face tank the mobs or the tank is a pos.

It would be somewhat understandable if you're a magicka templar dps using a resto only for the siphon spirit ability. Nothing else though, you better have 2 pure dps bars and pull higher than 10k dps at least.

dude, i use resto staff for the heavy attck that restores magicka and the healing springs and thats the only skill i use on resto staff skill line. as for dps, my templar can manage to hit 18k crit with bow camo hunter + focused aim. so if i can hit that much so can other dps and my attributes are these magicka 32 health 32 stamina 0 running on 2 sets, seducer & magnus. think about it

It's a huge slap in the face to the healer when you walk in using a resto staff at the get go.

    Well... Bah....

If a person is going to make assumptions and presumptions and criticise someone without asking what that person has in mind ... that's not going to be a good fit for grouping with me. I think we can all learn from each other - but asking, and then shutting up and listening is a very basic part of it.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

    I'm a Sorcerer DD...

Why... am I going to go full offense... and not utilize my shields on my second bar...

Is this what people are complaining about nowadays? That they want you to be dependent on the healer to stay alive and they don't want you to have any defensive abilities slotted?

    Console by the way lel

I play every class dd/heal or tank. and i can say with absolute certainty on any single one of them as dd if i ran a restro heal on my back bar i would be losing dps, slowing the fight, creating potential for healer to run low and generally losing focus on what my purpose is within the group. As a tank or healer i expect the dd to be going balls out dps. not hitting heal springs.

its not 100% about relying on the healer to keep you alive. you roll out of stupid. you wait for tank to agro large things. you dodge heavy attacks and aoe, you block etc. all while dpsing. healer is there to buff your dps and keep you topped up from unavoidable damage.

i pug a fair bit and honestly still dont find a need to throw a restro on the back bar. maybe ibe just been lucky and havent run into groups where stacking healers is required.

If someone starts commenting my build before the dungeon run even starts or even if the dungeon is being run smoothly, I'll leave the group in a second.

Whether I run a resto staff or not on my second bar is NONE of your damn business as long as I get the job done.

I understand a dungeon is a team work but too many people seem to think that "team work" mean "having rights over others' ways of playing".

I think most people should focus on their own builds and bars before taking care of other people's stuff.

    - Care to explain what you mean by "girly attitude" ?

    - Not everything has to be "optimal". 99% of the game's content can be completed without "optimal" build or set-up.

    - Who are you to know what's optimal for other people ???

Don't really need an optimal build for most vets, that is if the group members understand what they are doing and have situational awareness. The thing that frustrates me the most as a Vet Healer is when I am forced onto my resto bar 90% of the time. This tells me two things
    a) DPS is low/bad
    b) The other 3 players suffer from tunnel vision and can't move out of red

The other night when Elden was the vet, I was in a bad pug group. I know they were bad because the sorc was dropping storm atronach on the bosses and the "tank" had something stupid like 16k health.

These vets all have DPS benchmarks, and for the most part they are low. As previously mentioned, a bad sorc can run Overload and probably hit that DPS benchmark. If your groups DPS is below that bench mark, it's not a fun time for the healer.

Ugh, sounds like a guy who is in my PVP guild. He tries constantly to try to find fault with my build and even one day told me that if I wanted to run the sewers with his pug group that I need to go respec to the morphs he prefers AND change to a destro staff. I first told him that I was not changing my staff. Then he decided to order me to go respec. (This was all over TS, and I have witnesses) . When I refused to go respec, he accused me of not wanting to work with others. I apologize but I am NOT gonna be micromanaged by anyone. Especially not a guy younger than my own son. I refuse to run in a group if he is leading anymore.

Yeah no one should be this kind of annoying, but when I'm healing I am like leave me to it, unless you rather I spend my heal time dpsing which I bet people don't.

Sorry you died but I was pew pewing!

If a healer does whatever else, the fallout is quick and deadly. Just because the usually 3-8k drop in dps from dps doing other stuff they shouldn't is not as deadly because the healer is actually doing their job, but I can always see it when dps drops a lot due to this sort of thing even if we don't wipe, the best CC is death so just make it happen.

A good healer can easily pull 8-10k on (most) bosses in the game, the best pull 15k - which is more than the avg for dpsers in the game sadly. Especially a templar. Just slot BoL on destro bar and bam. Emergency heals while dpsing. Just gotta keep up rapid regens and combat prayer, so you'll have a rotation going.

The reason why healers need to run resto/destro is to put up ele drain. That is the healers job. Buffs/debuffs/heals, and then dps in between all of that/when possible.

I'll be honest, my alt who I mainly run vet pledges with is a healer and if I saw someone pull out a resto staff I'd question what the hell they were doing too. As a healer I'm there to keep you alive, your job is to show up with enough hp to not get 1 shot (~16k unless your a sorc running hardened ward), get the hell out of red asap and max your dps. If your setup is so bad that you need to use healing ward too as a dps to stay alive I'd call you on it. That's not your job. Either spec some attributes in health, use food, use health glyphs or learn to move out of age.

This. I can't imagine a daily pledge where you need an offheal with one exception maybe, Planar Inhibitor when the healer has the portal phase....but even then it should be possible to survive that even with less or without healing at all if you further use the lock in the middle and avoid the red stuff.

About using Hardened Ward as a sorcerer...if the sorcerer believes he might not need it, because he is superman concerning movement and damage avoidance and won't get one- or two-shot, go without, if you think it's better to use it, because things can get ugly and a dead DD still makes less dps as sorc with Hardened Ward slotted, slot it.

If you get one- or two-shot (15k damage + simultaneously inc DoT tick of the red circle you were standing in) don't blame the healer who was just refreshing Elemental Drain or Siphon Sprirt.

So it should be, but my experience as a healer still shows me a lot of DDs failing to avoid damage in situations where it is possible.

To do list as a healer:

    1) Don't die
    2) heal others
    3) support with buffs (especially ressources)
    4) add dps

if I can't get to 4) it's far from perfect, but ok, if the dps is high enough I won't moan.

If I even fear to switch bars to get to 3), something is obviously wrong.

EDIT: Omg, someone necroed the thread on page 3....

All players should focus on not dying first and foremost. i've been in pledges where people in my group kept dying and the remaining members had to stop their respective roles to res said dead dude. runs like those take forever.

If all the players in your group are self-sufficient you can get though any content easy but if you only focus on maximizing your respective roles, one person screws up and the entire group can wipe. i'd take the former over the later.
