knowing how to gain AP is the quickest way to gain it
    • getting in a group, large is good. AP of your team members is given to you also if in range of fighting/with them. this is to promote team work so not everyone has to kill to get the AP, some people can pour oil or fire seige others can heal. All AP will be shared. big groups = big AP gains
    • killing an enemy who hasn't been killed for a while normally 800-1k AP per enemy, more like 49 AP if you kill a guy that just resurrected and hasn't killed anyone
    • defending a keep or taking a keep (or resource but less so) when there is resistance. kills during the fight give ap but also after the fight if you succeed you get a big AP pay off once succesfully taken or defended so stay around the keep. don't leave the keep straight after a battle wait for that big tick of AP ive seen 2k ticks happen quite readily on keeps with defence.
    • if you have an alliance and you claim a keep for the alliance (through siege merchant) AP gains for you whilst at that keep are increased so if you claim a keep the enemy is trying to seige and have good defence you can get really nice AP
    • healing is a very effective way to gain AP. but you cant constantly heal the same people, but healing a zerg is good. but in your case this will be difficult as you aren't a healer, so i mention this last just as an FYI

Best way to get ap is being in a big group. AoE helps much too. I'm newer to learning pvp also, but I have noticed a few things. The cyrodil quests are ok for getting ap also. Check out the servers before you go into cyrodil. The more empty ones are a bit better for quest, the full one better for pvp action.

Just roll with a zerg. Regeneration on a resto staff, spam it out and you'll get the most points.

This (heal the zerg) and at best you are grouped with that zerg.

Sometimes the prey turns and nips us... it's a small thing.

So let the snow flakes and unicorns dance alone until they melt or vanish from existence, we will finish up with those smart enough to stay in the glowing circle of love.

Things that work to get AP >
Go with big group , Spam Rapid Regen.

Buy a sh(*)tload of keep repair kits, wall and doors. and walk from keep to keep repairing walls to max health when the mine upgrades kick in (have a buddy in other alliance solo the mine on some keeps and then you cap it back, and go repair the walls 5min later.)

Gank newbz near skyshards and/or closest dungeons to gate.

When you see a fight, stick around the resource keep until you get the Tick
(Every time a fight goes on in the territory of a keep or resource, the AP from teh kills is registered and stuffed in a megapool that is distributed among the players from teh winning alliance ( defense team if the attackers died out, or conquering team as soon as they secure the flags). Also in scroll runs, the temple usually is the place of quite a few deaths, wich means a huge pool of AP is stored; So, let's say, when your team lost a scroll, you might notice people sit at the gate and do not pursue the attackers with the scroll, for 2 reasons, they want the tick, wich is as high as a couple of thousands a run, and the scroll is usually moving rather fast so to intercept it the defenders must have a team already in the field for that.)

That's pretty much it. Now, how to find the groups and get into action are totally random and depend on the server pop.

While effective, this is about the most annoying thing you can do.

Of course it is, but it would take forever to get mag det without it, takes a solid weeks worth of evenings doing this to hit level 7, if your sanity can hold it's the best way. plus you never know, it may make a difference to the final scores.

Yep, no hiding in crouch and shadows, get up and earn APs for your healer :-)

people that make >100k/h are either

    1) over exaggerating or looking at lucky 15min windows and extrapolate to an hour
    2) run an experienced organized group during the day
    3) one of the very few highly successful groups AND having a good day. often lag/downtime make these numbers near impossible even if you win every single fight

I don't think there is a way, without tons of experience and/or connections to good groups to achieve such numbers as a fresh starter. those experienced groups don't just invite new people - that's how they are experienced - as a group...
that being said, numbers MUCH higher than 20k/h (which most new players seem to make) are totally possible.

an easy way to make many AP is to stick with your faction's random zerg and play releatively defensively in there. deal some damage on overextending enemies to get a few AP and make sure to heal your allies. spamming regeneration with a resto staff is pretty boring and stupid, but some people even get their emperor ttitles like that...
sometimes it may be the best idea to deal as much AoE damage as possible (and maybe die in the process) - because the current action will lead to a situation that is not worht staying in. e.g. your faction standing before an enemy keep without seriously sieging it. People will fire at walls and onyl the same noobs will keep dying, all being worht 0 AP. However, for the start, I think playing it defensively should give you more AP per time.

Also don't forget to stay for defticks after you've pushed back the enemy. 60sec after the last player (either side) has been killed in the area surrounding a defended keep, the defensing faction gets an AP bonus based on all AP it made durign the siege and that bonus is split between all players in teh area. likewise such a bonus is split when a faction successfully takes a keep. but this bonus is awarded the second the keep changed owership and is less frequently missed by newer players
