Not me, but a friend of mine downloaded the game and played for a little while, then the question of how long it will take him to catch up to me came up, and I told him about the Champion System. That pretty much killed it for him.

Sorry to hear that man. You're going to find trash talkers in any MMO, but thankfully ESO seems to have the least from what I've seen. Met a lot of great people here and some nice guilds. Hope you have a better time from now on.

Im curious what did your friend expect? Instantly to be max level and max champ points? The whole fun of the game is the journey. God forbid you start a new character and help him along. Instead you basically encourage him to quit the game. Good job.

Depends on the type of player. If he is PvE, I don't see any issues with the CP system and the journey is more important.
If he was planning to play PvP, since the game is advertised as a huge battle AvAvA game, I can understand his worries. even with the catchup system he will be eaten alive in PvP.
I do understand people who play longer and more want to be more powerfull then those who play less or just started. But image a new player V16 finally comes to cyrodill and cannot beat anyone because he has 100 CP and the rest has 3600 (in a few years). Even with the catch up system a casual player has to play years to catch up. This will discourage every new PvP players.
Solution.... no CP campaign or limit CP campaign.

How on earth could you make to VR16 and not have more than 100 cp? That simply is impossible. Also we are talking about now not a few years from now. Id be shocked the game even made it that long considering.

I was dramatizing it. I think we don't even have veteran ranks then anymore. Even a difference between a 500 cp'er and 1500 cp'er can be big.
We will see what happens. Since there is no other good AvAvA game i'll stick to this game until Cyrodill is exploding. But every friend/colleague/family member I introduced to this game does not stick to it. Some even where a bit angry because I told them to buy the game.
If I ask them what they did not like, they said: BOOORING

Well if they came expecting a pvp game this isnt it. Also if they are so bored maybe a first person shooter would be more up their alley?

Yeah, this. Ebonheart seems to harbor the most abusive types, followed by Daggerfall, then Aldmeri. At least in my personal observations since day one...YMMV! I actually deactivated zone chat a few months ago because I got tired of teenage and adult babies having abusive posturing contests in the chat and tossing slurs at everyone (both real-world and Tamrielic slurs). Most of the fun stuff (silly/serious/bad roleplay, for example) happens in /say, anyway.

What about it is it you don't believe? Friend doesn't want to play alone, I tell him he won't be able to contribute before hundreds of hours of playtime/grinding, interest lost. Now we're waiting for Black Desert Online so we can play together without one of us at any time having such a huge boost to our stats.

So your friend expects to get to a high level in the game overnight? have they played an mmorpg before?
Yeah, I found the main quest and the guild quests (if you haven't yet joined the fighters guild and started the first fighters guild quest, you should do that too - when I first started playing I thought I had to pick one or the other, and didn't realize you could join both the fighters guild and the mages guild) a little odd in how they progress when I first started. Basically the main quest gives you a new quest every 5 levels. So the first time you get to a major city after hitting level 10 you'll have the prophet appear and ask you to come to the Harborage for the next quest.vek892_ESO wrote: »Yeah, I've got a multitude of characters (across all factions), and the couple of times I skipped the tutorial I regretted it. @UrQuan
I also made 3 characters, one of each faction so I am trying out my Brenton mage now. Wish I would of done Coldharbour though (no staves/gear from that area) instead of skipping the tutorial.
My most important advice to you: if you haven't already figured this out (I know I didn't figure it out when I first started, but you were part of a beta stress test, so you might have known this already), the quest giver just outside of the house that you wake up in after the tutorial gives you a quest that sends you on a boat to an island. DO THIS QUEST FIRST! Or as early as possible, if you've already started doing other stuff.
That quest sends you to the actual starter zones. The zone that you wake up in is the first full zone of the game, but it's not the zone that is intended to teach you gameplay and really introduce you to the game. The starter zones are intended for brand new characters, they give you some decent XP, some decent gear, some skyshards, some interesting characters and quests, and are just generally the best place to start playing the game.
Followed your advice on the sidequests and am at ~lvl8.5 so far and a roaming just outside the city looking for anchors (random encounters? or there a good spot to at least see one on free weekend?), new quests, etc.
Kind of annoyed the main quest leaves me hanging with no new objectives (it was just getting interesting!)... Did the Mage's Guild quest up to the waiting point as well. Eh guess I will just wander around and be a wandering wizard til main/mage quests show up.

Champion System isn't that bad though, especially with the catch up mechanics. I've pretty much hit the level cap on CP, and I've been playing less of late. It's similar with the guild quests. You get a new mages guild quest each time you rank up in the mages guild skill line, as long as you go past a mages guildhall. It's the same with the fighters guild.
You can wait as long as you want to do the main quest and the guild quests, as the quests (which are forced solo instances) scale to your level - including having the enemies and loot scale to your level. If you wanted to, you could wait until you're level 50 (which is actually Vet Rank 1) before doing the quest from the main quest line that you got at level 10.
