Champion System isn't that bad though, especially with the catch up mechanics. I've pretty much hit the level cap on CP, and I've been playing less of late. It's not as brutal as other games. Not me, but a friend of mine downloaded the game and played for a little while, then the question of how long it will take him to catch up to me came up, and I told him about the Champion System. That pretty much killed it for him.

Just my 2 cents right now, hopefully the community aspect changes as I am somewhat still leaning towards getting the game.

Sorry to hear that man. You're going to find trash talkers in any MMO, but thankfully ESO seems to have the least from what I've seen. Met a lot of great people here and some nice guilds. Hope you have a better time from now on.

In my experience (on PC NA server) Ebonheart zone chat in general is way worse than in the other 2 alliances, and Stonefalls is by far the worst zone for it. I don't know why, but it seems to attract all of the trolls. If you're PC NA and considering staying on after the freekend, send me a message with your user name and I'd be happy to send you an invite to a guild I'm in that's friendly to newcomers (although the invite won't be sent until I'm home from work).vek892_ESO wrote: »I am one of the "freekend" people, though I was part of an old beta stress test and wished to try the game out again as I've seen it on sale on Black Friday weekend and now through ZOS Store for the weekend and was on the fence about getting ESO earlier. 'Cause Skyrim and Nords are in that area. So all the people who have generally only played Skyrim choose the Pact. Those people are probably younger and in general more immature so you get a slightly higher concentration in EP than in the other zones.
That's my (admittedly unfounded) theory.

So your friend expects to get to a high level in the game overnight? have they played an mmorpg before?
Yeah, I've got a multitude of characters (across all factions), and the couple of times I skipped the tutorial I regretted it. I'm sure not everyone feels the same way, but I like running around in the Wailing Prison collecting the gear I can find there, and then coming out of it with some actual equipment.vek892_ESO wrote: »@SturgeHammer

I also made 3 characters, one of each faction so I am trying out my Brenton mage now. Wish I would of done Coldharbour though (no staves/gear from that area) instead of skipping the tutorial.

My most important advice to you: if you haven't already figured this out (I know I didn't figure it out when I first started, but you were part of a beta stress test, so you might have known this already), the quest giver just outside of the house that you wake up in after the tutorial gives you a quest that sends you on a boat to an island. DO THIS QUEST FIRST! Or as early as possible, if you've already started doing other stuff.
That quest sends you to the actual starter zones. The zone that you wake up in is the first full zone of the game, but it's not the zone that is intended to teach you gameplay and really introduce you to the game. The starter zones are intended for brand new characters, they give you some decent XP, some decent gear, some skyshards, some interesting characters and quests, and are just generally the best place to start playing the game.

Never understood why they changed it so you start in the main area instead of the starter areas. There was always an option to "tell the captain to leave early" in all 3 alliances so you could still fast track it if you wanted.
Now it just makes less sense. Boarding a ship to go backwards?
