They might be more likely to go for that, actually.
They seemed pretty quick to agree to add the Looking for Group on it.
Of course, they'd have to figure out a way to prevent people from making obnoxious, vulgar, racist ones etc.
Maybe you all should come up with a list of Quick Chat phrases you'd like to see added.

There is no reason it couldn't be a console element.Text chat is a PC element not a console element :-)

I honestly don't even care. I play on PC, and wouldn't play on a console if you paid me to.
I just want to see text chat implemented for consoles because I'm sick of the hundreds of posts per day on the issue.

Why? Modern consoles are not much different than a PC. This distinction could have been reasonably made 10 years ago but not now. USB keyboards work on all modern platforms

Yeah but then I have to keep a keyboard on my lap or on my bed at all times.. It just doesn't sound reasonable. When I played on PC I used to do exactly that. Id have my keyboard next to me and use my controller and it was just a nightmare for me personally

ever play warframe? it has a nice implementation of text chat. whilst in your ship(in eso case a town) text chat is used via the left trigger. could be different maybe on the d pad somewhere. when in town it will show up when there is chatter in the box. this when opened can be switched from different sub chats like area region squad guild ect. whilst out of town (for warframe while in a mission) you would briefly see words on the bottom right of the screen that would stay for roughly 5 seconds after someone typed. they also have to pause the game in order to access the chat menu so no accidently pressing it and popping up. this would stop spamming and or keep it to a minimum outside of a town where you are trying to battle things. could this be annoying? possibly however the option of switching to squad chat when solo or private chat would be there to no longer see other peoples type.
whilst in town you can see the sub category chats and they can highlight when someone is speaking in them say for guild chat and squad chat so you know when someone is trying to say something. there could also be a toggle switch for turning chat off completely or turning off notifications in town. this would allow people to use the feature that want it and the rest wont have to. would only be a minor inconvenience to have to turn the toggle off if it isn't wanted by said player

Sounds like a first world problem... Lol
If you are in a dungeon, of course you won't be using the keyboard. Set it aside and use voice.
If you are puttering around in town, trying to find a group, or trying to sell/trade, pick up the keyboard..
I don't understand how this is such a hindersnce to some folks

this would allow you to not use it if you chose but could if you were tired of talking in reg chat to find a group as well as the audio

The best option is some something outside of the game. Why do so many people suggest these things? I want the things used to play the game, you know, inside the game. I have no desire to be tethered to my phone or have to jump between three apps just to play ESO.

You have good points . I personally just don't think the console needs it. But if enough people want it then hey as long as they have an option to disable it for people who don't want to see it then that would be a win win . If it didn't take away from the people that currently like using mics
