Oh spare me the hyperbole. These two things are in no way related. "Useless Fluff" is here to stay and no amount of complaining that it should not even be a thing until the game is perfect in every way is going to change it. Remember, when you have to ask the question, "Why?" the answer is ALWAYS, "Money." Crown Store fluff is easy and makes ZOS Money. It's here to stay. That being the case there is absolutely no good reason we shouldn't tell them what we want and what would indeed incline us to part with our $$. No one is going into the latest "Fix Bug X and Cyrodiil lag!" thread and saying, "No! Divert ALL manpower to creating more and better costumes!" Because we KNOW that is every bit as ludicrous as what you just did in this thread.

I think they have different teams to crunch out bugs in the code and to make frilly dresses - at least I hope they do - although it might explain one or two of the bugs :)

I think they would sell more costumes if we were able to dye them than they would with issuing recoloured costumes. If dyeable costumes would totally kill the game code in some way though then I'd take a choice of colours in the store as a second best option.

I know I'd have bought more costumes if I could have changed the colour myself. It's often not the costume that I don't like but the choices of colour used.

I'd also love to be able to wear my usual headgear with any costume. That's pretty important for me as I am still using my lucky level 14 hat.

Yeah I'm not sure what the coding issues are that they don't even want to consider making the costumes dyeable. But failing that, offering them in more colors really does just make sense. It's cheap and easy for them to do and they already do it for mounts so you'd think they'd realize it's the smart thing to do for costumes as well.

It is a lot of work to make them dye-able, if my guess is correct. First, I doubt that the Crown costume is actually "yours"... you are probably using the same costume as everyone else. There is not a separate "item" that is yours. (regular bathing and hygiene is important) Costume dyes means that "your" costumes would have to really be "yours", a dyed version of the original instead of just using the original, which is probably a big change right there. Next, the costume itself needs to be built to allow at least four layers of textures, one that is fixed and cannot be changed and up to three other ones that can be colored using a solid color. If this is not done, that work has to be done and all the current textures rebuilt so that they look the same, if that is even possible. Then, of course, is the UI issue. Today, the dye station shows the armor and strips off any costumes. That would have to change and the player would have to be able to control whether they were going to be coloring the costume of the armor it hides.

I am glad that they are looking into it, though.

Is it really that big? Theres no need for 'your version of the costume' theres just need for your version of the color scheme, which is like 3 numbers and the name of the costume:

    Player XYZ_437863
    costume Xds_2: color 0043/color 5231/color 2221
    costume Csd_11: color 1124/color 2324/color 6451
    costume C4r_A2: color 0044/color 2120/color 7743

    Thats all the information needed.

The other 2 things you mentioned I agree with. Theyd require some work.

If you watch the ESO Live with Tatiana Malinko (a few ESO Lives back now) she gives an explanation on why costume dying is not in the game yet and why we can't wear tabards with costumes. It's a technical limitation that they are trying to resolve but it is difficult to do, so you are right there.

It will come, but it may be a while.

The wedding dress and the evening dress are basically the same dress, just in different colors with a different headpiece.

The noble dress is slightly different in the top, but otherwise looks very similar.

The current male clothing options, however, are quite different from each other. The wedding suit looks quite a bit different from the noble suit.

However, the new costumes, if you really look closely, are all built on the same framework. For the female set, the second dress is basically the same as the first outfit, just with a skirt instead of trousers and a bit more frill/detail. And the third adds a coat and high collar, plus more/different details.

Same with the male outfits. The top/jacket is the same for all three, just the second and third are robes with different details/accents.

I'd still like to see a dye system implemented, but they are already doing multiple versions of basically the same outfit. More elaborate than the mounts, but still, the basic outfit designs are the same.

That is your version of the costume. It is a big deal because everyone who sees you needs to have that information transmitted to them. Today, your version of the costume looks like what everyone else wears, because it is what everyone else is wearing, and when I see you wearing it, I don't have to care about what "your" version looks like. Making it yours is more than just storing sets of RGB numbers related to a specific costume in your character (or account) record.

This is an incredibly gorgeous game, which is largely why I'm still playing it. Nothing else out currently has aesthetics that are its equal and in a similar genre. In part that's why I get so frustrated about having such limited customization options. Not only do I want better costumes, I want more (and changeable!) hair and makeup options as well! I want my characters to be able to look as amazing as they world they live in!

Yeah I'm not sure when the Orcs went Oriental!

Actually if you pay attention to each race from ESO they have distinct aesthetics taken directly from ancient cultures. Nord are like the Scandinavian cultures, Vikings, axes and lots of mead. The imperials are simliar to the Romans, the Argonians are simliar to an Aztec / Mayan culture with all their prymids and what not, the orcs have taken their influence from the feudal Japanese era. Although the Orcs also have similarities to a nomadic tribe with the architecture of the the strongholds. I know there are more races but you get the picture.
