Idea for displaying another player's CP capacity

Considering how CP's work I think this idea would cause confusion.

The amount someone has doesn't matter.
The amount in specific passives does but it's too many variables to create a visual display for PvP

Actually a very good point, someone could have 300 cp but have chosen poor skills, that rarely benefit their build, where as someone with 200 could be very wise and gotten far more out of the system.
This is part of why I am always against displaying CPs. Despite how they really function, people will use it as a measuring stick where only a high number matters even though a person with comparatively lower amount of CPs may have spent them in better locations.

They try to view it like levels, or tiers, where the higher number simply means better stats by X amount in Y category. But given the wide scope that the CP system encompasses, that view is oversimplified at best.

I've often marveled that there's no obvious in-game way for PvEers to make the connection between the PvP rank symbols next to character's nameplates and what actual Alliance Rank that represents. I know the ones up to around the mid-20s (my main has three apex-upward squares above her head) and PvPers know if you see someone with a symbol you don't know they will likely make big ouch on you.

This Champion Point equivalent is a good idea. Not least of which is that if you see someone with the symbol for 500ish CP wiping the floor with mobs that had just been kicking your butt you won't feel so disheartened. I remember when I got to Deshaan as a DC stam NB waaay back in the day during the VR overpowered mobs month and saw a DK wandering happily amongst the mobs picking daisies with nary a care in the world I damned near quit the game as I'd been fighting with all my might for ever inch of ground. Not sure how PvEers would use the CP symbol info, but it'd certainly be a nice warning in PvP. I'm amazed that after being gone half a year I'd already had around 200 CP, so I don't see how others playing since I started in pre-release don't have 500 CP.

Would be too much information in pvp. as much as i would like it for selecting targets, the same will be happening to me and i dont wish to be a primary target everytime i leave my safezone.

For PvE it would create a disparity and segregation which isnt needed and ruin the fun for players. sometimes its best to keep things out of the public eye.

I haven't pvp'ed for too long and I think the amount of people is already low enough, letting you know who you are fighting and how good they are just by seeing names and having a battle experience with/against them prior to the player making the call whether to fight the person or not.

I think having that kind of info would make people more toxic towards eachother.

I kind of like the idea though frankly I'd rather know the raw number.

As someone who bought the game to PvP, doesn't really enjoy doing PvE content, doesn't run dungeons, and will never grind for CPs, I'll likely never be near the CP cap. So I would like to know which opponents are 100+ CPs above me. It'd also help me know which folks are at the cap so I can even better avoid being caught solo near them. I've been in enough situations where several randoms attack a couple enemies who kill every one-- don't even try to say they could've had no or low CPs. lol

Folks like to try to claim CPs don't make a difference. They do.

If CPs didn't matter, the "best" PvPers would play without assigning any CPs and smash anyone/everyone with maxed CPs. I'd love to see videos of that.

I'm not a fan of this idea. I put it in the same category as gear and skill inspection, and think it would lead to a (more) toxic community. Why the obsession with how many cp people have. Mind your own build and let others mind theirs. If your opinion matters to somebody, they will gladly share their stats with you. If it doesn't, they won't. Don't force transparency, it won't lead to anything good.

It doesn't matter much anymore, anyway. Everybody has 501 or less. There are no more mythical "thousands of cp" bogeymen.

    No...

you can't see what gear im wearing (at least not exactly) why should you see my level..

Infact with battle leveling, they should outright block you from seeing a players level also.

I dislike the intrusion as well. It's bad enough some of my guildies tease me saying "wow, you got it!", since they can see my loot through an addon. I call them NSA and we laugh tons on TS, but somehow I dislike that a stranger could see what I looted, even worse what I am wearing.

Sounds like a cool idea, but i like the element of surprise. You gotta learn exactly how powerful someone is from fighting them. I don't want an indicator making me not want to attack someone because i feel i may lose

I don't mind losing if it's a fair fight. But for me this is along the lines of "don't take a knife to a gunfight."

The less I die in PvP the more successful I feel in general. Plus it's just not fun being smooshed in 2-3 hits, so yeah, I like to avoid that. I understand others may not play the same way though.

Honestly I feel like this attitude is what makes this game's PvP poor. If you want to share builds/ideas do so (I respect those who do because essentially they help make the game more fun for others). If you don't want to share there's no need to make snooty-sounding statements suggesting you are somehow above the folks who are interested. Anyone who says stuff like "scrubs who copy builds, etc." brings the game down.

Not a fan of it, a vr16 with 500 cp with blue gear is far less deadly than vr16 in gold gear with 300 cp, so it is going to account for gear quality too?

Plus imagine all the excuses it would create

So you're looking for either a way to tell which are true n00b players in PVP so you can more easily gank them for their lunch money, or you want to avoid accidentally attacking someone who you know will wipe your behind all over the pavement. Which one is it?

Wow with the issues - I said none of the things you mention and yet you seem to have put a lot of your issues in my mouth.

    Lol, that's a good point.

Not at you but as a side note, Zeni's implementation of the CP system automatically created a more toxic atmosphere. So the folks saying stuff about that, ehh.. /shakes head

Well that is what Tabards are for lol just not everyone is a fan of wearing them :p and apparently according to feedback what you and I thought about everyone always asking for CP display isn't as desirable anymore if not truly ever. At this point I'd say this thread has successfully displayed the community's viewpoint on the topic of CP display: they don't want it lol

Hi, sorry if I read your post wrong. The "if you have a reason to know I will answer" part was what bothered me. Also I am mainly talking PvP, but if you aren't please just ignore me. :-)

It was different during 2014, but at this point in the game I really don't consider too many people "elite." With the exception of folks at max CPs (since CPs are the only constant point of reference in the game). You may disagree, that's fine. I don't really see folks I consider "elite" blocking content..

I'm all in favor of being able to fully inspect your gear, how you distributed your CPs, attribute points and skillspoints, what you have slotted on both bars, etc.

I'm also in favor having raid, group, and target frames with options to show how much magicka and stamina you have, your current buffs, what ability you're casting, etc.

All of this... even on enemy players.

Having all this information out there in the open is the best way to ensure the exploiting and bugs do not go unnoticed. Sunshine is the best disinfectant.
