Newbie here with two questions.

So I am trying this game out and really enjoying it so far. I am coming from WoW after 10 years playing that, so I do know things about mmo's.

1st question is: What is the fastest way to lvl?

2nd question. I was trying to heal a dungeon I forgot the name of it. It has goblins in it. I am a Templar but was having a hard time keeping the group alive.
What can I do to get better at healing? The problem I was having was running out of magicka to cast heals. I do use the heals over time spells and other stuff. Like what armor or stats should I get? I have no clue about ESO, it is a lot different from WoW.

1. fastest way is grinding. just google it there are maps with best places. best way is the way you like to play.

2. use light armor for magicka regen, use restro staff heavy attacks to regenerate magicka, use health/magicka food, use spell cost reduction glyphs

I recommend just following quests for leveling your first character. BUT, if you have no care for the quests/story, then the fastest way to level will be finding areas crowded with enemies with high spawn rates near your level, and just kill all day long. It is very boring. As for healing, i hope a veteran templar here will give you some advice. Welcome to the game, glad you're enjoying it!

1. Fastest way is probably grinding mobs in special locations. There are guides for that on the internet for every alliance. Grinding Vet levels is definitely Cracked Wood Cave in Cyrodiil or Imperial Sewers, but only if you have a grinding partner. Otherwise it's a bit of a pain on a lower level.

2. As a Templar, you need Channeled Focus up all time for decent magicka return. It's the last skill in the healing skill line from the templar class. Get yourself light armor for cheaper skills and higher magicka return. Use food for a higher magicka pool and stronger heals. Use the Atronach mundus for more regen. Also, if you find yourself in need for more magicka, channeled heavy attacks with the resto staff can fill up your magicka quite decent, if you have the passives of the resto unlocked. Basically, whenever you get time, you heavy attack channel to get magicka back to be able to heal when necessary. Also rely on stuff like Repentance if fighting mobs, purifing ritual (or the other morph, not sure) for a nice heal over time, Mutagen, Force Siphon, Healing Springs (very cheap, high spammable). Just using Breath of Life is quite expensive.

Ignore this. Most of those guides say "oh you don't need the BiS gear for leveling/PvE" then immediately list Engine Guardian as part of required gear.

very true.
but most of it only becomes relevant after lvl 49 anyway

Thanks for the knowledge all. Does killing mobs over and over lvl you up faster than doing quests? What about running dungeons and doing those quests, does that lvl you up fast?

DLC is available for everyone, regardless of faction.

For the first few levels questing will be faster, but as soon as you can sustain spaming a skill that does aoe damage, grinding will be faster if you find a good grindspot that is not occupied by other players.
Everyone can enter Orsinium, but it's instanced for each alliance, so if you play for dc, you won't meet ad or ep players there.

Best way to level is with XP Scrolls or Psijic Ambrosia potions, and doing quest after quest. Back after back. You get a LOT of XP from quests. After that, it's pretty much grinding your Cadwell Gold's final area until you hit your desired level/rank.

As for running out of magicka, you should use a restoration staff. Assuming you're primarily a healer. True, a templar doesn't exactly need a restoration staff. BUT! It will help you with your resource management. Plus, you get a lot of magicka from completing/doing heavy attacks with the restoration staff. You should also use the mage mundus stone, as that gives you more magicka. And since you'll be using magicka, the more at your disposal (magicka), the better off you'll be. Plus, your max magicka and healing / spell damage go hand-and-hand. As the more magicka you have, the harder you'll hit. Or the more you'll heal (I think). And the stronger your wards (shields) will be.

You might ck out some videos on you tube by Eolla as she runs primarily Templar Healers. Tamriel Foundry is also a good place to learn about builds also.

Sounds like you were in the Fungal Grotto in Stonefalls, as far as running out of magic try this gear:

5 pieces of Vestments of the Warlock set, light armor, dropped set at lvl 15-22, can be purchased mostly cheap from guild merchants - 1 necklace, 2 rings, 2 pieces of armor ( I prefer hood and shoulders personally).

5 pieces of Seducer set, crafted for any level and any armor weight, enchant with magic glyphs.

These two sets together will increase magic regeneration and total magic...more magic means your spells hit harder and heals are bigger.
This is my lvl 29 Templar build using these sets, The Mage Mundus stone increases magic. I use a destruction staff as my main weapon with Destructive Reach as my only destruction staff skill, the rest are Templar class skills, mostly from the Dawn's Wrath skills. I use a Restoration staff on my healing bar with Healing Springs as the only restoration staff skill for a ranged skill I can target where I want, the rest are Templar healing skills. I also use Magelight (Mage's Guild skills) on both bars because it increases spell and healing critical hits.

Even if you're a templar, use a Restoration staff as well. Heavy resto staff attacks restore magicka.

If your group members dies in dungeons, dont blame yourself, because they need to use block, heal pots, choose their target too, not to mention when to use Ultimates and what kind of Ultimates is important too, also when its good time to recharge your Ultima. Its teamwork at its best.

Healing in a dungeon here is not like healing in a dungeon elsewhere. We aren't straight healers that do nothing but heal, we're damage dealers that heal our team.

Every time you do a heavy attack with a staff you regain a chunk of magicka (the amount can be increased with passives in varous skill lines), so what you need to be doing s constantly casting heavy attacks and interrupt them with healing spells, this keeps your magicka topped up, gives you a steady stream of healing, and tops up the groups dps.

For gear I would recommend (this is my personal opinion others will differ)5 pieces of light armour (for the magicka bonus passives under light armour) Seducer set, 2 pieces of heavy (for the extra health and armour passives in heavy armour) Warlock set, and a restoration staff also Warlock set, and a couple of Walrock jewellery pieces.

piece of advice concerning leveling. save orsinium for later. use cadwell's silver and gold to get through veteran ranks up tto rank 14, then head to orsinium. lvling will become a pain if you cleared orsinium before hitting v14.

If going the grinding route, it will be faster, but you will also miss out on quite a bit. Also, it makes your braincells want to suicide after a while, so, be warned!

I simply do every quest, enjoy the game world, and streadily gain my levels. That way I hit V1 halfway through coldharbour, then go after cadwells... with the new v-rank reductions, its a breeze as I am practically always ahead of the curve. V5 in a V3 zone? I expect my new toons will be V14 and some change by the and of cadwells... wrothgar I found to be worth another veteran rank and half easily, which means combined with one cyrodil circuit, I can go to max level without -ever- having to grind.
And just by doing all the quests, I will also rake in a nice amount of gold, lots of extra skill points from the main questlines, even more skillpoints from the shyshards one stumbles over while questing, max mages guild and fighters guild skill line "en passant" while questing, and unlock all regions as well.

Healing... has two sides.
One is you - much of that has been mentioned. Restoration staff heavy attacks to recover magica. Trinkets and light armor sets that boost magica regen and reduce spell cost. Making the most of your healing abilities instead of spamming one (especially when its the most expensive "emergency heal" ability).
The other side is the folks you try to keep alive... ESO is -not- a game where a healer can make up for too many of their companions mistakes. If they let every heavy attack land unblocked, if they let evers special attack hit uninterrupted, if they don't dodge the fu... uhm... freaking red on the ground, no healing at near level will keeep them from respawning.

For your first character, I would just speed quest (ignore dialog and just complete them). Grinding mobs will be slightly faster, but that's not something I'd recommend for someone's first time through. Plus speed questing isn't THAT slow if you put your mind to it.

As for running out of magicka in dungeons, be sure to keep Regeneration on the whole party (cast it twice) and Restoring Aura (if you have it). Those are both long duration HoT's that will save on your magicka usage. Then just alternate between casting Breath of Life a couple of times and doing a heavy attack with your Resto staff.

They nerfed dungeon XP because people were power-leveling by killing trash up to the 1st or 2nd boss and then resetting the instance.

Grinding is the fastest way to level.

- become a eso plus member for the XP boost
- buy the xp boost pack from the crown store
- find a grouping buddy ( 1 should be fine )
- grind your tush off, and don't stop

I personally would use the training trait on my armor and weapons at early levels ( green/blue/purple ). It is good to level your weapons faster to unlock skills and passives.

Always kill mobs that are within 5 levels of your character level.

( Note: I noticed in lower levels killing WW were higher XP )

I don't play my templar often but some basic advice
Eat Food that gives you magicka buff
Wear armor that gives you some sort of magicka buff ( I used the Seducer Set )
Wear enchantments that have some kind of magicka buff
Put your points in Magicka

Always repair your armor, if not you will notice the buffs not working any longer.

Also if I was you, i would take a few breaks from grinding and maybe goto PvP and test out some of your skills in high intense situations. Then tweak your build to your play style.

I did listen to the dialogue when accepting new quests at the beginning. But after playing WoW for over 10 years you kinda get burnt out from questing. I do listen and get into the main story quests and the guild quests. Another reason I want to lvl fast is I don't want the 2 hour xp bonus you get from the store to go to waste, so I'm kinda looking for ways to take advantage of the 50% bonus.

Healing gets easier when you get to higher levels and the people you're with learn to not just stand directly in telegraphs like big red circles indicating they're taking a whopping load of damage. It's probably nothing to do with your build, really.

That being said you might want to take a close look at the quirky way heals target low health allies in ESO, as it's not what you're used to.
