Been on the 'bring back soft caps' boat since a month or so after they were removed. In my opinion the game was the most balanced, in PvP, when soft caps were still a thing.

Removing softcaps caused so many issues! Prior to their removal there were no perma blockers, no perma dodge rolling, no unlimited shield stacking.. Personally I'd like to see them brought back and have blocking/rolling out back to what they were.

Or just being back 1.5 lol

Game will never be balanced without softcaps, it stopped classes like sorc and nb going full damage which kept templar and dk competitive in all aspects.

Full damage with escape routes is why most people are playing sorc or nb now and the reasoning of this is the soft caps was removed.

In 1.5 i could run around solo as a templar and feel i could take anyone, soft caps went and templar became pretty much support class.

Also if you look at the sets you can get now they pretty much add up

    2 undaunted
    5 pc armour
    3x ic jewel
    Mael weapons

Is an attempt at making soft caps in a diff way, however the full damage classes with escape are always going to rule.

Good luck convincing ZoS to waste more resources on a changed set of playstyles month's later.

Removal of Soft Caps was never the problem, their lack of focus to attention was. Especially when they changed armor types.

It didn't help that they decided to wait 6 months before adjusting things so things could settle.

What diversity? I'm seeing fewer and fewer really viable options for builds these days.

We've seen what their removal did in 1.6. There were a lot of other changes, but the effect of no caps was pretty obvious.

In 1.5 i could run around solo as a templar and feel i could take anyone, soft caps went and templar became pretty much support class.

I have several templar friends who solo a lot and whacks away quite well in Cyro. I think they may even ran over your crew at times.......Solo. B)

Most people who picks a class because they think that class is best at "damage" or "insert anything here", are the same ones who screams light armor is crap and DKs needs to be "rebuffed". Class matters just as much as choice of gear, effects and anything else. Saying nightblade are OP is the same as saying Ice Destro staff is OP. I dont understand that kind of reasoning.

The only big unbalanced skill in the game, is player skill. Good players always beat bad ones, no matter what character, stats and gear. However, luck is always a factor. Sometimes you loose, accept it.

My main view about softcaps is, without them, it created a much bigger area of choices regarding combat.
Speed, teamwork and adapting instantly is the killer. Not the class.

In Cyro, I have found that something as basic as understanding what stacks with what and how damage works is currently the most powerful weapon you can have. In my opinion, adding softcaps again would make most high lvl players hit most caps, and then have no real build. The build is "Everything soft caped".

Soft caps wouldn't work well with cp because we have too many cps.

If cp was limited, permanently, to 360 (for example) then we would be required to choose what to take so as to balance a build. In this way, soft caps might work well.

As it stands, the cp system has been created more as a carrot to chase rather than as a balanced approach to encourage diversity.

Or perhaps they're just scared of forcing people into making any choices with actual tangible impact...

    I don't know.

I must say though, I enjoyed this game more in 1.3 than I have done since then. For all of the changes that have gone in during the last 8 months, I would happily have a roll back to 1.3 (1.1).

I think I'd actually love to gp back to beta with all of the socalled balances and with the extra mob difficulty.

    NO!

Soft caps would ruin the Champion System and make progression pointless.

Soft caps would make long fights difficult, frustrating and boring, not to mention expensive because of the tri-pot chugging.

Soft caps would bring back Spell Symmetry spamming, which is incredibly dangerous and unfair to solo players.

Soft caps would make "edge case" builds impossible... everyone would end up with the same cookie cutter stats.

There's a growing army of responses on these forums from peeps wanting that which most of us were against only about a year to 18 months ago.

VR Ranks remaining for instance and now this!

Softcaps were a curse on natural progression and the day they decided to get rid of them was a fine one. It was a better day when they implemented it.

I am all for change if it is an overall improvement for the majority of players, other wise leave it be.

(If CP was the only way to advance past the soft cap it would actually increase diversity of builds, every choice you make has a big impact, you would actually have to THINK about your build. Not just stack Wep dmg/stamina or SP/magicka. This would also make many armor sets which are currently not feasible more workable.)
Soft caps would make long fights difficult, frustrating and boring, not to mention expensive because of the tri-pot chugging.
(Soft caps would shift the balance of power to the skilled player. Having better stats would no longer equal a automatic win.)

(This is what we have now, put everything into your dmg stat. Very few actually viable builds for each class.)

If you think bringing back soft caps would reduce diversity I say to you what diversity? Every single build I see in each of the "Show me your class" threads ALL have every single stat point into Stamina or Magicka. Every single build I see online for current meta stacks all 1 stat. WHAT DIVERSITY?

Soft caps would allow for hybrid builds again. That Stamina Templar could now invest some points in magic and have a workable heal, as it stands right now Stamina Templar's abandon Breath of Life cause we can't invest in MP without fugging our build over.

From the beginning, I wanted to have a character that was the in-game equivalent of the Breton knight from the game trailer.

    1.6 made that an impossibility.

It seems to me that right now there are only two choices for non-tank builds: we can either max stamina or magicka. I want to use both.

I wouldn't mind but least with soft cap it meant that some races advantages were not as huge. Now you really have to plat a race that gets bonus to either magic or stamina otherwise your screwed. Everyone in trials and PvP appears to be min maximing a single stat to get the most damage out.

You're talking to someone who has been playing a Sorc since the Beta, and I remember EXACTLY what Sorc builds were like during the bad old days.... all the SAME. Unfortunately, the standard build was only really good in group PvE, it sucked in hardcore solo PvE because of sustain issues. I also remember the caste system created by the need to chug Tri-Pots in serious play. I simply refuse to spend hours a day picking flowers in Coldharbour or shelling out real cash to Chinese gold farmers.

As a result of these issues, I spent 99% of my theorycrafting time trying to perfect a "magicka battery" build that was effective and easy to use. My eventual build depended on Critical Surge, Desert Rose armor set and heavy use of Overload, all of which have been nerfed to Obilivion. There is no going back.

It is simple. Most of the DKs and Templars want the soft caps back. On the other hand most of the NBs and Sorcs dont.
Templars and DKs want it because they hope that the meta can change, because right now it is hit hard and escape fast. And we know which classes take advantage of that.

I've played Sorc as my main since beta. I can assure you in PvE sorcs are not OP, and certainly can't pull the kind of DPS a magicka dk could in 1.5 compared with other classes.

I don't know about PvP, and to be honest I don't care. ZOS have already pushed me away from PvP for the foreseeable future and I don't want to see PvP-centric changes wreaking havoc with the rest of the game, as we've seen in the past.

Removal of soft caps really screwed over templar + DK, since they need to invest in all 3 attributes for decent amount of defence in PvP. Not only because they have skills scaling of health, but lack of mobility also requires more into stam and stam recovery.

While a sorc can jam almost everything into magicka, and still maintain decent survivability + high dmg.

It's also why we got all these horrible blanket nerfs. Limitless- and crazy burst builds did not exist before the removal of soft caps, so they nerfed all dmg, all shields, all heals, block and dodge to somehow balance it a bit.

Bring back soft caps and remove all blanket nefs.
