Huh? Group dungeons scale to the level of the leader (or to VR16 for a group formed under the updated LFG tool), so how can you out-level them for XP?

I try and do the daily pledges on all of my v16 toons (6 toons) so I can get mercenary motifs and some better traits and/or weight of boss set shoulders. The xp from to in in isn't bad and atleast I'll get v16 mats from loot I don't want/need from decon. Luckily I have friends that will run the dungeons with me multiple times to do them on all my alts (they also have other alts the run them on as well). But they are not always on when II am. So that leaves me to trying to LFG in pledge zone. Sometimes it's easy to find a PUG group sometimes not. So I can see OP's point of view.
Noooo.... All group dungeons scale to the level of the group leader, not just the vet ones. I mean yeah, if you choose to make the group leader someone who's too low level for the scaling to result in you getting XP, then you won't get XP.ckrobinson83 wrote: »Huh? You're thinking of VR contentI'm talking about initial run through with a brand-spanking-new toon.
For instance, I'm lvl 20, which means that Banished Cells is now grey for me. If I run it at lvl 20 (hard to do, as everyone has moved onto the next area), then I get no exp. If I run it with a leader who's lvl 15, then I get no exp.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm level 24 and haven't done Spindleclutch yet. I've been debating whether I should take my chances with the group tool or try to get in with an appropriately-leveled group in zone (or see if anyone in one of my guilds feels like going with me).
On the group tool plus side, I wouldn't need to worry about being technically overleveled with the dungeon scaling, and I have taken the precaution of crafting myself some green/blue set armor with tons of health enchants after reading the group tool horror stories. But... there are still those horror stories, and I'm not sure I want to have my first group dungeon experience be a disaster if my gear and build still can't keep up or if I get grouped with people who don't appreciate having a newbie along.
Any advice from people with dungeon experience?

I believe that the Undaunted pledges are different from a "group dungeon;" in that they have different "quest-givers." So, if you run the Undaunted pledge version, you'll receive a static level of XP; while just running the same group dungeon over and over will net diminishing XP returns....
Each group dungeon has its own quest that you complete the first time you do that dungeon. It doesn't matter if you went there because an Undaunted member told you about it in that zone, because you just wandered into the dungeon, or because you're doing an Undaunted pledge - the first time you do a particular group dungeon you'll have that quest. The pledge is an additional quest that can be completed concurrently with the dungeon quest. The pledge is just "kill these bosses" and they're the bosses who are there in the dungeon anyway. I run regular group dungeon events in my guild where we do the day's pledges, and in almost every event there's at least one person who hasn't done the original dungeon quest for one of the pledge dungeons.ckrobinson83 wrote: »Huh. That's just the initial quest in Auridon or Glenumbra or Stonefalls (depending on what your home alliance is) in order to join the Undaunted in the first place. And yes, that one can be completed by just entering the dungeon, and then immediately leaving and going back to the Undaunted member who gave you the quest. There isn't an equivalent quest in later zones - for those ones there are members of the Undaunted who can tell you where the dungeons are, but no quests from them to go there. The dungeon quests in subsequent zones are all picked up and completed within the dungeon itself.stevenbennett_ESO wrote: »I thought the Undaunted quests you get in each zone were simply to enter the dungeon.
