Inactivity-Log-Out is too quick on Character Selection Page Now

Has anyone else found this annoying lately? I tend to log out with one character and then go to make a cup of tea or take a bathroom break or something before logging in with another, but it seems like ever since Orsinium every time I do that I come back to find myself totally logged out of the game and having to re-enter my password and wait for the loading screen again. It's a minor annoyance to be sure, but still... The idle time allowed while In Game seems to be fairly long still, but I rarely leave my characters idle, I'd rather them not die while I'm gone, or block someone's screenshot or something. I pretty much only take a break when I'm back at the character page - which now keeps logging me out all the way.

Easy fix:

1. Log out with character
2. Log in with new character
3. Get your tea while loading screen
4. Sit down again and play! yay!
(ps. login screens are far longer than logout sceens anyway)

Yeah, I've started doing that instead. Not a big problem but still a little annoying if I haven't left my character in a 100% safe place.... don't like logging in while away only to discover I died because that empty field I was standing in was actually a spawn point for something, oops

Yeah, what's up with the new speedy kick?

I used to be able to go grab the laundry or run down to the store and back, before the game kicked me. Now I hardly have time to make a cup of tea and snack

Yes, I was surprised when I was booted from Character Selection for "inactivity".

Isn't logging out enough? Why do I have to quit the game?

Yeah, I used to log out to this screen when I had to go and feed the dog for example, but now it sucks

I was actually to start a thread about this as I like to go back to character selection screen when going afk for more than 10 mins. When I came back and saw myself in the login window with an inactivity popout I was quite surprised.

First thing that I thought of was that this was actually made to prevent inactive people staying in character selection - probably it could've caused some lag or unwanted server capacity increase (I once fell asleep and my screen stayed in the character selection for a good 7 hours).

wow, 7 hours is a long time... lol I can certainly see them changing that, but what they've done is just a bit too short for convenience. It seems to be less than 10 minutes, I'd like at least 15 I think, maybe 20?

Most definitely. The in-game afk timer is AFAIK 15-20mins but the character selection is just around 3mins. Makes one wonder.

I understand that it may help server load, but I miss the days of being camped out there...for no reason other than a faster log-in.

I have no real issue with how it is now, aside from my "inconvenienced Americanism". lol

funny part is i´m regularily kicked from game while in a loading screen because of inactivity ^^

Yeah, there never used to be a timeout on the character select screen. I've left it sitting on that screen overnight.

And I'm sorry, but if sitting on a character select screen is causing "server load" issues, they have much bigger problems.

There's a non-activity log-out?

I've been known to walk away for up to 4 hours and I'm still at the character screen when I come back!

How long is it? I think I read something like 7 hours in this thread?

Honestly, if you're going to be gone that long, just log out already!

There is now, as of the Orsinium update.

That was before the update, when there was no timeout at all. I'm not sure what the new character select screen timeout is, but it feels like about 5 minutes. It's very short.

Yeah, I've seen this mentioned a few times... if this is actually happening, it's ridiculous.

ZOS breaks loading screens, and then implements a shorter inactivity timeout that can boot you while on a load screen.

If you were to look up "EPIC FAIL" in a dictionary, this should be the definition.

lol I like that...yes thats exactly how we are. I think as long as we acknowledge it we arent total jerks.

I find this new logout timer absolutely annoying. Cutting you off after 15 minutes or so, ok, seems fair, but 5 minutes while you're already at char select is a real pain.

5 minutes? Really? I have never experienced that. Of course, I'm never really away for more than 30 minutes or so, but, 5 minutes?

Yes! It is really annoying! I wish they would change that back to the way it was.

I'm not normally one to complain (okay, maybe once or twice

). I work in software development and I know it's just about impossible to keep everyone happy. But this is one case where I definitely feel like time could have been better spent on something else.

Yes a pain. I got kicked yesterday. Went to the kitchen and when I got back I was kicked. I thought it was very short.

Well if it's intended, it's WAY too short @ZOS_GinaBruno. I posted it as a bug because I had never been kicked from the character selection screen before. 15 minutes I could understand, but 5 minutes?

For me I get logged out due to the long load from login to character screen.

It would be nice if we could type in our login credentials, and have a pre-select character option on login.

And TEA is always nice!
Have you tried one of those KURIG brewers for TEA they are awesome!

Mine takes about 2-3 minutes to prepare.

a couple of further thoughts:

- the quick log out kind of makes me feel unwelcome in the game

- when I come back and I'm still looking at my characters I remember 'oh right, I was going to do that next', whereas coming back to the main log in screen makes me think, 'oh... uh... well I guess I didn't really need to play more right now anyways.'

- I have to wonder if logging in and out more frequently would still have a toll the same as just remaining logged in?

It takes me longer than five minutes to take a restroom break, grab a fresh drink and some snacks. They do need to increase the wait period to at least 20 or 30 minutes. Don't need 7 hours though!

Why?

No, seriously, why?

Sitting on the character selection screen can't possibly use any server-side resources beyond a TCP/IP connection possibly (though not if designed properly), it's not causing load on the world servers, etc. there's NO REASON to have any auto-kick from this part of the game, period.

Most games auto-kick active characters .. not all games, I play two that don't .. but several that do kick characters don't kick from character selection.

It's isn't a 'law' on MMOs that auto-kick needs to apply everywhere.

I dunno, but it's awesome, maybe it'll keep Cyrodiil afks away.
