Inactivity-Log-Out is too quick on Character Selection Page Now

if it truly doesn't make a difference in performance, then I do agree that there isn't much reason, but....

Personally if I fell asleep or left and then got detained or forgot I was still logged in I'd want it to eventually log me out all the way so that my computer could take a break (it certainly makes more noise while on the character selection page than when logged out fully,...). Secondly, if I was living with roommates or siblings or children I wouldn't really want it left on that page forever where they could go in and mess with my characters if they wanted to without my password. While these concerns are mainly in My hands to remember to fully log out when I'm going to be away, sometimes things come up or I forget and it would be nice to know that my computer wasn't going to sit there blaring the ESO music all day or all night with full access to anyone who wanted to mess around (I'll never forget the one guildmate's story of their son creating a Legendary level one iron dagger with all their improvement mats....). I'm not actually living with other people at this time, but I'm sure there are plenty of people who might have that kind of concern.

Well, I have been logged out for *inactivity* during loading screens too.

I love this game but geez it's hard to keep the commitment up when the developers ignore such a basic problem for so long.

I'm torn because I have invested so much time in this game already. I think it's getting close to the time to get a divorce.

I hide, hit escape, go make a cup of tea etc etc no problem.

Knowing I am going to be a bit longer, I hide, log out to char screen and go and do whatever I was going to...... logged out? Got to password in again? Why? It never used to happen, I could be gone for 45 mins and still just go to char select and play.

I know its not a big deal, but...... why???

In the past there was a memory leak from being on the character screen for too long. Maybe it's to limit that, if it's still around.

In my perfect world:

- Character select screen times out after 30 minutes
- A timer is visible that shows the remaining time before you are logged out.
- I'm registering inactive while in game, I would like a 5 minute timer to appear on the screen that tells me I am about to be logged out (to the character select screen) due to inactivity.

I do hope they do something. The way it is now is bad.

I like the new policy. We have problems with lag and loading times - why should server resources be used up by folks who aren't playing?

I think the issue is because character select doesn't actually draw many resources at all? I can't say how true that is or not, since I have no clue how much of a drain the char select screen is.

Bleh. I often logged out to character select when I needed to go to the store, take a quick shower, run the dog outside, etc. Gone long enough to know I'd be booted for inactivity, but not long enough to warrant a full logout. I really hope they roll this decision back - it's not a horrible inconvenience, just slightly annoying lol.

30 mins seems alright for sitting on the character page, and some kind of warning or timer would be handy to know when you're close to the limit.

I'd definitely want more than 5 minutes of idle time in game before it logged me out though - if people are already having issues with being logged out for inactivity with loading screens.... but also because it often does take me longer than that when I'm looking something up for the game - such as checking what different styles look like on ESOFashion.com while crafting a new set of gear, or watching someone's strategy for a boss I keep dying at, or reading up on two different choices in a quest where I'm just not sure what to choose. I think too many people would loose group members who went off to refill their drink or use the bathroom and might think they were abandoned when they see them go offline and drop the person prematurely when it simply logged them out right before they got back.

@ZOS_GinaBruno , I guess since this thread was from 2015, it was decided to keep the character login screen timeout very short.
If there is a good reason for this, it would be great to know.

Thanks for bumping this. I've always found it annoying. Now, I might be crazy, but it seems like you don't time out as fast when you are idle in your house. I also walked away from an active banker dialogue box the other day and was quite surprised to find myself not logged off when I returned.

So their might be some activities/places that the time out doesn't quite work on, but I sure wish the character select screen was longer than it is.

Yeah, it's more than a little odd, especially since it's about the least server intensive part of the game.

I've had this happen while making a new character, just sitting while thinking of a name that wasn't already taken.
