not a clue the time while annoying is not the issue I posted about as things happen and delays are inevitable. Its purely a request to be kept informed more of a courtesy thing as atm all the European players don't know if its back up in 10 mins or 10 hours.
Absolutely. I work in IT, I understand delays happen, but we at least inform the customer, which is how we maintain steady business and good rapport with the customer. Otherwise you've got chaos.

That's a pretty standard behaviour. But, for some reason I don't know, video game business doesn't treat customers like customers.

They think their customers are kids playing video games who don't deserve respect.

Makes sense, Fallout 4 has just come out, something wen't wrong and ZOS rounded up every able bodied man, Woman and Child to put out all the fires, leaked footage showed the game is horrifically broken ( we on here all knew that anyway right ) I'll wait until January for at least some of the bugs to be ironed out.

Someone either rushed and tipped the stack over, or they went out on a bender and forgot to turn it back on.

1hr of my lovely XB server left, RIP if it's doesn't come back on.

So nobody from Zenimax is around to post a short message on the forums saying : sorry for the long maintenance, we are aware it's taking longer then expected but we're working hard to resolve the problem, sorry for the delay" ????

That just takes a few seconds to do but makes a huge difference !!!!!

Well you just said it for them. Maybe they can recruit you to the Community management team, slap a ZOS logo next to your username and all will be fine... Just kidding

The downtime is pretty unacceptable and poor business sense. My job involves working with servers and data-centers, i am a also a network administrator/instructor. They shouldn't be patching onto the live server until they have it working on a simulated test server (which we all know they have), the fact they seem to be having issues may be more in the regards to the hardware they are using to transfer these updates across the servers. They might be wise to consider running a duplicate game server which replicates the current player database so when one goes down for updates the other can remain up, of course this would cost a bit of money but would save them the loss of their customers.

Well, they do need to upload the patch across the pond. And probably do some checking on it to see if it got corrupted during the transfer. And check that it got properly pushed to all the servers. This takes some time. It's not as easy as upgrading graphics drivers. Not implying that any of you actually thinks that it is, though.

There should be no need to wait for the server to be down before copying across the pond. That can all be done prior to downtime if it were planned properly.

Does anyone know where the tech crew doing the actual work of patching is located, in what timezone? Do they do it remotely from the US? (Or perhaps India?) If they indeed are located in the US, the timing of it all is pretty damned awkward for everyone involved. Us slacker-daytime-EU-gamers loose game time and the poor sods updating our server gets to pull an all-nighter, in a (vain?) effort to keep us happy.

I'm not sure, but I found this mentioning Frankfurt.

    http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-gb/news/post/2014/07/28/european-megaserver-migration

Coincidentally, just before the migration announcement I was offered a job in Frankfurt at a Datacenter (DC) for a company known as SoftLayer. We were supposed to stand up their first DC in Germany, they called again for an upcoming one in Berlin about a year later. Could be coincidence, could be Slayer. Either way, it must be bad if they aren't saying anything as far as progress i.e. status....We are left to ponder, speculate, theory craft.....drum up conspiracy theories...blame Illuminati...

Dude, of course I want to know wtf is going on with the patch, just as much as everyone else here. I was just trying to lighten the mood somewhat with, an admittedly lame, joke. And bump this thread in a vain effort of getting the attention of the Zenimax Community Managament team. Do they have like a "profanity alarm" on these forums? If I pepper my next post with curse words, will any bells go off in Zenimax HQ and wake them up? (Just another lame joke, no reason to get excited.)

Well I work for one of the largest IT firms on the planet, infrastructure side of things, one particular account cannot have any downtime at all, the back up for the systems contain 250,000 litres of fuel for generators alone and the fine for just 1hr of downtime alone is more than Zenimax will profit from Fallout 4, yet most people have never ever heard of us.

In short ZOS, this is pretty damn poor, I think it's time the board look at replacing certain "key" people and moving forward into the 21st century and looking after your loyal fanbase, look at Assasins creed, they messed up game what 3 was it iirc? went silent like you most of the time and now look, who went and bought the new one?!

Oh and btw, I still only 1950 crowns, iirc I made payment for ESO plus the other day and had that exact figure...another email for you to ignore incoming!

And then have some downtime or major issues when copying the characters back over and syncing the servers by accidentally forcing a rollback anyway?

An apology would be far more effective.

    I am worried.
By now I have finished downloading all last night's new tv series episodes and fallout 4 is due to be done within the hour, too.

Dont make me watch videos here in the office instead of playing ESO.
    That seams so... wrong!

Shame that ZOS doesn't feel EU players deserve to be kept in the loop.

I'm not bothered with the time this maintenance is taking. Sometimes things will take longer than expected. And seeing as how a number of bugs slipped past in the NA update, I'm even hoping they're trying out fixes for EU. Still, it wouldn't hurt for them to post a simple update about what's going on or - heaven forbid - an ETA for servers going back online.
