Graystone Quarry (some spoilers)

I just completed the quest at Graystone Quarry for the first time (actually, due to a rollback as I was completing it, you could kind of call it the second time).

First off: this is a dwemer ruin. More than any other dwemer ruin I've encountered in ESO outside of Wrothgar, this felt like a proper dwemer ruin. I believe there's some other dwemer stuff in Wrothgar, but I haven't encountered it yet, so I can't say if anything else in the zone is an even better example.

Second: that puzzle was probably the first one I've seen in ESO where I actually had to do some trial and error, and then stop and sit down and work out exactly how to solve it. For anyone who's having trouble figuring it out, here's my solution in spoiler tags:
It takes 8 rotations for each of the rings to go around 360*. Taking the starting location as 1, the inner ring needs to be at location 2, the middle ring needs to be at location 8, and the outer ring needs to be at location 5. Hitting the control on the right moves the inner & outer rings 1 step, hitting the control in the middle moves the middle & outer rings 1 step, and hitting the control on the left moves the inner & middle rings 1 step. So if you hit the right control 3 times, then the inner & outer rings are both at location 4. Then you hit the middle control once, so the inner is still at 4, the middle is at 2, and the outer is at 5. You then hit the left control 6 times, so the inner has gone all the way around once and ended up back at position 2, the middle ring is at position 8, and the outer is still at position 5.

Nice job on this one ZOS! I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was nice to meet up with Neramo again, too.

This was one of my favorite quests in the game. ZOS pulled this right out of the Skyrim Mages guild quests, and I enjoyed the reference and a bit of nostalgia. I really like that we run into most of the starter island characters in various Wrothgar quests. It really adds a lot of fun. These references to past Elder Scroll games and previously encountered NPCs are part of the reason Wrothgar is the best thing in ESO to date.

This was a great puzzle. And there are more in other quests, some very simple, others require putting clues together. Another plus for Wrothgar!

I'm just curious about whether the NPCs are factional. Neramo is from Stros M'kai, as are other NPCs, all DC. I haven't run any characters all the way through any other alliance, but I don't recall these NPCs being in AD. So if you play AD, do you encounter Rhazam dul?

Hmm, good question about the NPCs. I would tend to think that they'd keep the same NPCs in the zone regardless of your alliance, but maybe have different dialogue options if you didn't do Stros M'kai with them? I don't know, I'm determined to fully explore Wrothgar on my DC orc (it's his home) before I try it on my other characters.

I just love the dwemer ruins, but I had to leave this one, as I could not do the puzzle, I will try second time :)

I loved that quest and the ruin!

As for other alliance NPCs, there's Rigurt from EP. Otherwise I've mostly seen DC ones.

I have to fully agree, this has to be one of the ESO highlights - I wish there were more of these riddles.
In fact I tried "trial and error" first, too, then fired up google and luckily didn't find a clue. Then I took pen&paper and started to analyze and solve the puzzle.

My "trial and error" phase was mostly about figuring out how the controls worked, figuring out which position each ring had to be in, and figuring out how many moves was required to get back to the starting position. Then, once I had that info, I used pen & paper to work it out. I don't think I would have been able to solve it without doing it that way :)

I thought it was nice to see a puzzle that actually required some thought to work it out.

Okay, from the lever / chest / central resonator 's perspective, you just go:
    6x Left
    1x Right
    4x Middle.

    And done.

It was so nice to run into a puzzle and not have a book sitting next to it titled "SOLUTION TO THE PUZZLE." Like many here I actually had to turn my brain on and pull out pen & paper.

I've ran into two more EP NPCs - the dark elf siblings exploring dwarven ruins. No AD characters as yet.

Yeah, as a DC player I encountered them outside a delve in Wrothgar (haven't completed the quest yet) so the others are there.

I guess I got lucky and completed the dwemer puzzle in the quarry by looking at the rings, and see which ones still needed light on them. Kinda hit the toggles until they were able to lock into place.

    No, unfortunately you wont.
Because depending on your choice in a quest in Reaper's March good old Raz might be dead. Or at least buried beneath tons of stones.
They wont choose a potentially no longer "alive" protagonist for a quest, and then do all the voice recordings and stuff twice for different npc just in case they need to switch over to someone else.

Haven't met any npc from the yellow side yet. But I am not completely done with Wrothgar yet either.

You must have missed him later on because he isn't dead. He is standing with the others at the ceremony for the new Mane and if you talk to him, he'll tell you about it.
