Would be nice to add more social cohesion to the game. Especially when the in game VOIP is bugging or not working at all.

I don't think it's on the radar, and is one of those things ZOS is not going to address, in the hopes that it just goes away.
  • Krampus000
Yes we do need it, how can we have an MMO with NO chat??? I know you can use mics and that works sometimes but it isn't the same, It bugs me every day.. If I could change any one thing about the game it would be add chat, I love that aspect of games like this, looking for groups, selling stuff in trade and it really sucks that we don't get that on console.

I just want them to add a search option in Guild Traders for me to type what I'm looking for instead of always choosing the criteria and still having to sift through a couple pages of items I was not looking for... That's more important in my eyes than a chat box with a ton of spam. I already mute area chat as it is.

Text chat would give consoles a new life. Just imagine it you can communicate with people, find groups, searching for specific set pieces instead of running around tamriel checking all guild traders, coordinate attacks in cyrodiil. Oh man how wonderful this game must be on PC.

But i really have no hope. It wont come just accept it. What bugs me is ZOS mentioned a Long time ago they dont want to fill the screen with a big chat window. But just look at the PC version with all that addons you can barely see your character. I dont get it its just because they dont know how to code and implent it.

At least they could do stuff like when you create a Guild, it automatically creates a "Community" on PS4. Soo basically that community works as Guild Chat. Oh wait, people would do it themselves if they wanted, I suppose no-one cares so much.

I just spent the last 2 and a half weeks searching for trading guilds for NA. I posted numerous times on PSN community, and the only invite I received to trading guild was with one that does no trading of any kind. In two weeks the only trade history I saw was a lost bid for vendor. Even the voice chat is empty every day I have been online.

All of you nay-sayers need to wake up, and you need to realize that this is a real problem for communication when someone like myself who is just getting back into game has this hard a time getting into trade guilds through third party means. No one has responded to my attempts to get into trade guilds or voice chat about this at all.

I said it in the past, and I will say it again -- this game needs chat box in game to supplement the other modes of communication, and anyone who has played a NA ESO console game that doesn't normally play console games can attest to the fact that 1: voice chat is a barren wasteland, and 2: this is one lonely little game on console because of it. The PSN community does NOT work when attempting to seek guild, and the two wasted weeks I have endured because of this exemplifies it. So, if posting here on the forums, posting on the PSN community, and finally trying to get others' attention in game with friend invites, chat invites, or in game mails doesn't do the trick, what exactly am I supposed to do about this game? Play it solo?

How are we supposed to coordinate anything with people we hardly know if they aren't responding to communication requests either on PSN or in game via build in voice chat? Believe me, I have tried, and I am butting my head against a wall here. Before you say something like, "Make friends in party during dungeons," let me point out that I have tried this tactic on more than one occasion. Early game, which is where I am at in level, no one -- NO ONE, chats on voice during dungeons. I am assuming they're all chatting with their COD, BF4, etc. buddies on PSN, and since there is no way to force them to pay attention, there is no way to make friends that way, not for me. (I have also tried to "invade" their full chat parties or locked ones. I like it when people tell me to do that too lol. /endsarcasm)

I can no longer play this game on PC due to technical issues, and console is nearly impossible for me to get social in due to the constraints put on us by Zenimax. I want to get my money's worth, but I am at a loss. I don't know anyone well enough on PSN, and everyone I have met thus far seems so cloistered and indifferent. A chat box would go a long way in making this game as complete an experience as it is on PC.

Just as a matter of perspective, I spent about 5 hours on PC while I was troubleshooting my tech problems, and in that time I managed to fill my guild slots, and I didn't even have to post on this forum to do it... Go figure.

I don't even care about text chat, and would only use it possibly because I have to mute voice chat since I don't want my kids hearing all the pretty words. But with that said, just give these players that want it text chat already and leave the option to minimize or turn it off. Something that gave you a sound prompt for a new chat entry while minimized would be good, then players can open it up when they are at a convenient point to do so.

When indie games like Rocket League support text chat, it makes you wonder why a AAA MMO doesn't offer it. #Moneygrab indeed.

As I have noted previously in other threads, I would likely be far less critical if ZOS worked on improving voice chat. Things like player lists being visible before entering a channel. Private or password protected channels. Actual public channels other than area, such as trading, LFG, etc. Even ways to setup/rename custom channels for guilds so players know where to go for which activities would be helpful. Sure, there are workarounds for some of these things but if ZOS is only letting us use voice chat then why have it lack so many basic features? It's almost as bad as releasing ESO without any displayed damage values; it's simply a mismanaged project.

Yup totally needed given the lacking social cohesion. Where is NBS to tell us there is absolutely nothing wrong and it is the players fault we can't plug in a mic into the controller, or it is all in our heads, pshhhh right *rolls eyes*. Why the devs are as dense and clueless is beyond me. The topic will continue to come up it will not go away. Stop continuing to divide the platforms with lame excuses that consolers are not serious gamers, stupid and don't need or want info in our games. NO you as the developers need to realize we play your game and if something is clearly broken do your f'n job and fix it. Stop alienating your customers, those who have anxieties/disabilities be they hearing, speech, reading, etc. Equalize the platforms and be devs that listen. Hell it worked for ffxiv why not take a page from there book, keep what makes your game special and keep adding to it instead of keeping people out. Heads shouldn't be inserted as far up certain crevasses as you guys have kept them. Listen learn and improve and please don't take forever to do so.

I haven't been able to keep up with ESO Live lately, but I saw a comment in some other thread about this that they said they working on text chat for consoles in a recent ESO Live. I can't really confirm this since I haven't been able to keep up, like I said.

I admit I was felt a bit let down when I heard there was going to be no text chat for consoles. This was primarily because I'm a roleplayer in these kinds of games and I definitely prefer to use text chat for that. I have gotten used to using the mic for it, though, so I suppose I'm okay with that option now. That being said, I wouldn't be against them decided to add in a text chat.

For me it's a personal preference, but I can't help but wonder if someone has an anxiety about that kind of thing? Actually having to talk to people, that is. That would alienate them from the social aspect if they were on console, wouldn't you think? I admit that's probably an extreme example, and it's more than likely a matter of it being easier to have it be solely voice chat on console, since that is more the norm. Still, I can't help but wonder about that sort of thing.

    Exactly!

It really is very simple, but neither zenimax or the trolls seem to get it.

Lack of a text chat option on PS4 is simply DISCRIMINATION against people with audio disabilities:

such as those of us who are deaf and

people with autism who cannot/prefer not to communicate with others by voice.

I'd add - for those of us in these groups, it's pretty much a game-breaker.

Exactly. I'm sure it wasn't their intention to exclude those people. I still get why they opted for voice chat on console first and foremost, but it does have that unfortunate side effect. But, hey, here's to hoping they make the change anyway like I've heard they're doing.

It is funny how ZOS is fine excluding people. Creating such a discrepancy between the console under the guise of different play experiences. They are controlled support to pc, add text chat to consume, *** for tat. Consolers are not second place gamers, we take our games just as seriously, I had and use to primarily play on pc but got tired of the upkeep and costs. Finally they are asking damage numbers, hopefully healing numbers as well, but I wouldn't put it past them to have such a simple oversight. I think they would rationalize it, "well only dps cares about numbers healers don't so it wasn't necessary to code, plus if they used both healing and damage numbers on their screen it would ruin their immersion, I'm the designer not the player so they need to play how I design not how they may want to play, and I'm right because I'm ZOS."

Some, whose name won't be mentioned, NBS, wouldn't care about alienating people because they are a small fraction of the group th osewith disabilities therefore they are not important. The larger, and I would say majority, even though they wouldn't want to admit it, who want text chat, are simply simpletons and doing know how to work a mic or use the lfg system, Consolers are pretty stupid you know. But again why equalize and make it fair across the board it isn't like other mmos try to please their playerbase and as a result has had some success as a SUBSCRIPTION MODEL, oh wait FFXIV. Before I hear " go back to FFXIV", I didn't care for the story or more, but I do in eso which is why I'm so adamant about equalizing and including. Not segregating and alienating.

Thank you for understanding. I dont have a problem with talking to randoms online but i know others do yet some anti text chat people have the nerve to shout BUY THE PC VERSION OR STOP BEING AFRAID ANS TALK! Its not about being afraid for me and o use voice chat. I just want the game to be better and more equal to the pc version. It would add so much to the game,I just feel so lonely in eso when wandering and question. I remember on PC when i did quests out in the world i met people and made friends,They talked to me and we decided to go together.tjey asken advice how to do certain quests etc on console people dont do that. We dont have a sense of community like we have on PC.

To be fair the console community is very toxic. People just talk in the citys and are just rude to eachother. People are rude ob pc too but more on console. This turns off alot of people not to use voice chat
