Do you like the way new motif sets need to be collected?

I still haven't taken the time (or had the motivation) to look up what a freaking glass motif fragment does! Why doesn't it say in game? All it says is something vague, like "a collection of fragments allows you to learn the motif," but how many do you need and how do you do it?

I'm assuming one day I'll randomly have enough and the text will change, or I'll just double-click a fragment every time I get a new one. But my point is, what's with these random/difficult ways to get motifs and no explanations for them?! (Besides the patch notes, which not everyone reads or wants to riffle through).

Nope, that would be too easy.

You need ten of them. Then you go to the mages guild and buy some glue. Use the glue and it consumes your fragments to give you a random chapter.

    Why the glue? No idea...

If by 'challenge,' you mean 'tedious to the extreme,' than yes.

If ZOS would finally allow players to switch styles to any other style they have learned, like Imperial, than appearance could be divorced from functionality. Never gonna happen, because costumes in Crown Store. Which begs the question, do ANY of the new motifs really look so fabulous to warrant the effort, when you could just craft a standard motif and use a costume?

Perhaps these motifs will eventually just be costumes...lol...

My options don't seem to have other as it was left out and none of the current options fit.

Akavari style is one that I will never see as despite my time in PVP, I use my AP on useless things like repair kits. You get maybe a tenth of the cost back for repairs. It has to be done. The people who have a bank of AP are the ones that don't repair anything. Just have to wait for the motif to be in the crown store.

Mercenary style is one that I will never see as I despise Undaunted. Hopefully, it will be in the crown store some time in the future.

Ancient Orc is one that I have yet to see on the PTS I had just found Old Orsinium this morning before the server went down. There was no one else around to help with it. Crown store... Maybe I can collect it the intended way.

Ancient Orc seems fine, depending on drop rate.

As for mercenary... Not too sure what it entails, doesn't sound pleasant.

The Akaviri one needs drastically reducing though.

In any case, "grind the gold" is no longer an answer when the mercenary style stones are bound on pick up.

Of course it is : you cannot buy the crafting style ingredient from another player but you can buy the crafted items from another player so I don't see where the problem is.

The challenge is so ridculously bad that I am going to do my best to pretend those motifs don't exist in the game.

Otherwise I would spend too much time resenting them
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Funny how they made obtaining motifs a massive grind at the same time they introduced the crown store. It's almost like they want to make it so off-putting, that a lot of people will just pony up the cash.

Edit: Forgot to add - they also did the same thing with psijic ambrosia. It's the Korean school of mmo monetisation - make the in game method of obtaining the item such a ball ache that people would rather pay than go through it.

It's not game breaking If players can't craft in this style right away. In time it will be more available and people with the mats will make a hefty profit from crafting the gear for people, unlike how it is now.

The challenge of collecting these motifs is appropriate
From the perspective of collecting and learning all motifs on a single person/character, these methods are incredibly inconvenient and grueling.

From the perspective of creating and maintaining a crafting economy promoting interdependency among various crafters for various needs, these methods ensure very few will become a "one-stop shop" for customers or themselves, creating a need for socialization, trade, and an ever expanding network of crafting contacts.

The challenge of collecting these motifs is appropriate
I do want to say that linking the Mercenary motif to Undaunted is actually a brilliant move . It is good to diversify the way the motifs are handed out, and who has them. It is obtained through an already existing daily game play mechanism that people can already do. It gets away from crafting writs. It puts them into the world across borders and links the acquisition of style material to knowledge of the style, rewarding those who have more knowledge. I like the idea.

However, if they run out and put a copy in the Crown Store and make the material available in the Crown Store, it really doesn't matter that they actually came up with an interesting way to introduce a motif into the game. They might as well just go back to the grind to find individual letters of the motif pages and microscopic shards of crafting material. It means nothing that it is specific to Undaunted because the Crown Store will dilute that idea to the point of insignificance.

I realize that they have to monetize the game. I am sure that the bathroom stalls in ZOS HQ only take Crowns, they have Crown chair locks at their Crown secured desks, and they are required to plug a parking meter with Crowns if they drive a car. They already have items in the Crown Store that are not available in game by other means. It would be really cool if they could have new motifs and materials in the game that had game play that was required, with no Crown Store short cuts.

Just like it is obviously not required that every player have access to every motif, and it actually adds diversity to have motifs that some people might not have, it should not be required that each motif and style stone be available in the Crown Store.

I answered the poll for Mercenary only.

Only if those crafters like to do Undaunted pledges so much they'll have extra style ingredients.

IMO, the Mercenery motif & style acquisition doesn't seem too bad by itself. But on top of the other recent crafting snafus, it feels like another kick in the posterior to players who like to craft.

    its getting ridiculous.

every new motif is harder and harder to get and has some structured inconvenience attached to it so they can sell a convenience for it in the crown shop later.

I'm disappointed that it has become okay to screw over cosmetics because it "does not impact gameplay" those of us who care about appearance and cosmetics get bent over in every F2P and Premium game because its a way the devs can make money without impacting gameplay.

a guarantee you the rage would be real if the same systems were in place to collect end game weapons and armor, that would be deemed unacceptable.

Yep, their business practice is outright disgusting.

A number of the styles simply aren't to my taste (that front flap thing really irks me). Especially at higher levels.

So I've settled for using a Crown Store costume (Crafty Lerisa’s Thief Outfit). So when I craft, I now just use whatever style gems I have available.

quit all the crying, its a free game, how else are they supposed to make money to keep the game up and running other than adding things to the crown store people like. if you have extra cash, buy it on the store later, if you have extra time, just grind the gold. This game is pretty simple to grind gold fast

LOL Yeah say that to people who paid over 100 bucks for the game and a sub since launch. It's hardly free.

If more people like you actually paid a sub we wouldn't need a stupid crown store.

I like that the Akaviri motifs allow a way for PvPers to make some gold.

Actual desirable VR16 AP gear for all types of builds would be nice, but guess that was too much of a challenge to design for now.... (cough)
