From Vet Ranks to Combat Ratings

I've seen this done in a lot of MMO's to great effect.

WoW, Star Wars, DCUO, even Destiny (I know it's not a true MMO).

I'd like to hear your thoughts. Would it be beneficial to replace Vet Ranks and Vet Rank Gear with a combat rating system?

Basically gear becomes dropped in 'tiers' from various dungeons each with their own combat rating. The higher the combat rating the better the stats on the gear.
Dungeons would have recommended and minimum combat ratings to access.

As far as crafting goes, maybe dungeons drop items that allow to craft gear at specific tiers with specific combat ratings.

    I've said repeatedly that I believe that Champion Points and Gear Progression (not linked, just parallel) could easily and more elegantly replace the Veteran Rank system. The Combat Rating system of other games is one of the things that influences my opinion on the matter.

    I always saw the Champion Point system as a way to uniquely build ur character similar to talent trees in other games (although this is nowhere near the same). With the abundance of skyshards everyone can have nearly every skill so assuming you have that many points there wouldn't be that much differentiation from healer > tank > dps. It's the champion points that determine your true role in my mind.

    Gear progression would fit nicely with a combat rating implementation because then you could provide valuable quest rewards after 50 as combat rating would trump all and you could get higher combat rating items from the higher cadwell zones. OR if you hate questing you could acquire this same gear from the relevant dungeons.

    Gear progression is tied to VR levels. If you remove VR levels you still have gear progression
    Champion levels and champion points are the same but a champion level rewards a champion point. A player has to use the point to grow in power or effectiveness.

    So in essence what "might" happen is VR levels go away but the skills and stats stay.
    Other than that nothing changes other than the VR leveling required from VR1-VR16 which becomes silly when the CP catch-up hits on 11/2 or 11/17-11/18 as player who are in VR will jump to 100+ and soon 200-400 so you end up with avR kinda being silly

    I would be perfectly happy with a gear progressions system as long as it's not "Rank 1 gear drops in your first silver zone, rank 2 gear drops in your second silver zone..."

    If such thing is implemented I won´t log in anymore I guess. Imagine how long it would take to get any reasonable gear with the way how item drops work in this game...

    I am still waiting to be able to replace my kagrenacs with some drops from WGT/IP and believe me I´ve done these often...

    But they did change it, CP has now a cap. Original plan was CP is endless on-going progression. I dont know if CP is becoming short-term progression, what there is for long-term progression then. Ive proposed gear-upgrades but nothing too awesome so they dont need to split their playerbase, from which this game could suffer alot, because there isnt that many players.

    People gotta realize every time they add new gear tier, they split their population, this game cant simply handle it.

    Yeah, I want to know what happens when you reach CP-cap now, theres nothing else to do. Im gonna get myself to 501 probably before Orsinium, what Im gonna do after it.

    Then everybody wears the same ultragear and all other items are ignored/inferior.
