Yeah, the people in the forum are creating their own expectations for what was should have been done and, naturally, ZOS failed to deliver.

    I suspect you are right.

There is a lot of room for speculation in there. It would be nice just to have them toot their horn and talk about whatever it was they improved in preparation for Orsinium.

Personally, I am going with "how many ZOS employees does it take to replace a light bulb?"

Check the news forums :) They did post what was happening. They were upgrading hardware so that future outages don't happen again. The EU system fell as they were doing NA maintenance so they felt this downtime had to happen so they could fix things up

That's still generic and not really an answer. I posted a link to that thread above and I'm sure now that game is back online most people will go back to playing it and forget about this until the next maintenance.

In all Honesty, after being in the networking field for most my professional life, it rarely does much good to try and communicate things in this fashion. I'm not trying to demean anyone (I'm on the receiving end here myself), but the amount of time it takes to fix things multiplies a great deal when trying to communicate things downstream, especially when it involves higher levels of technical detail.

And even if they did...it usually ends up with 10x more people asking 10x more questions about what you just communicated, and if you think they are twiddling their thumbs now, just wait till every player in the forums thinks there a weekend warriors specialist in virtual server tech and thinks they can tell Zen how to do their job. Things would sink really fast.

The delays suck. I get frustrated too. but opening that can of worms would be disastrous. and take MORE time. more then you think it would. It always does.

There are NO patch notes for this, because it isn't a patch. Come on man, don't throw troll questions!!!

Seems like they fixed the launcher. It's no longer sluggish for me. Also the loading seems slightly improved. Let's hope it lasts longer than a few days.

They replaced all the obsolete cat-5 cables with newer (but still obsolete) cat-6 cables ;)

There you go, we can all breath easy now that we know that, if I hadn't told you much of hr population of the game would have had their heads explode.

can mean anything from replacing power supplies and cables to adding additional storage, adding servers, or upgrading existing servers to more powerful models. Did they restructure the network infrastructure to eliminate fail points? Did they add additional database systems to eliminate potential bottlenecks?

While this discussion is closed, at least as far as ZOS is concerned, it would have been nice to know just a little more about what they did. They actually told us a ton more than they usually do, which is "backend maintenance", so at least we have that.

They did nothing but replace some network components.

So it sounds like the only changes that were done were to help with the system stability.

Apparently that doesn't include logging in since there are numerous posts about people unable to do that.....

If they got too detailed, yes, but actually Kai provided the response, in German, that I was actually looking for. That was the detail, and level of detail, that I wanted. Nothing else.

Actually Windows 10 comes with Internet Explorer as well, it's just that Edge is set to default, you can change that in the internet options ;)
