So far im lv 8, lovin the dk playstyle.. but having issue as to what weapons should i be lvling.. i prefer pvp over pve.. so i have look around and most either go 2h + bow or shield..

Whats some pros and cons of each weapon sets?

Also im more of a pure burst, dmg,i spit fire on your face type guy...

right now im just leveling all my skill tree ( have atleast 1 skill for each tree on skill bar )

if i go shield, do i get more sustain/heals? being able to just run in your face during zergs?

if i go bow, will i be spending most of my time poking you or is bow just for when their fleeing and you need to put dots on them?

How does dual wield work? is it more of a pve leveling spec or its actually does good damage in pvp?

Looking to go far with dk, and wanting a general feedback as what each weapon set does.. watching some videos just tells me how fun dk is, but not exactly talk about the playstyle of each weapon set..

Ty!

btw im redguard full stam build

Since the latest patch you don't see as many bow-wielding PVPers, since the damage reduction made it much harder to one-shot players. I certainly don't die from them anymore. Two handed seems to work better for 1v1, since you can combine a couple skills together to quickly stun and hit hard.

That being said, most PVP isn't 1v1, it's group-based. (As a DK you won't be able to gank like a NightBlade, though you can still have some fun with that once you reach VR16.) When you're fighting in a group against a group, you need a good AOE ability. 2-handed really has no good AOE. Bow has Bombard (an Arrow Spray morph), which uses stamina—if you don't want to use magic-based Talons—and works as an effective immobilizer.

The best stamina-based AOE you can use, though, is Steel Tornadoes (morph of Whirlwind). It does the most damage to the most people.

Take a look at Deltia's DK DPS post for more specifics on a dual-wield + two-handed DK build. I would focus on those two weapon skill lines first. You can always level up Bow more later (and you should, once you have enough skill points, as future patches may again rebalance things.

I have been playing DK since launch (I have a magic DK and a stam DK), and i feel it's best to approach your questions as you phrased them.

    1. Sword and shield is a staple of the DK arsenal. The sword and shield has reduced cost for blocking, can allow you to block more damage and has some rather great skills for ultimate regen, spell reflection, and an amazing gap closer. The sword and shield fits a tanky playstyle but the recent nerf to stamina regen on block has turned this staple into little more than a crutch for DK. This is not to say that playing a tanky playstyle is by any means subpar but a tougher style to master now that standing your ground against a zerg is often a death sentence if not played smart.
    2. Bow is actually very strong range damage. Most select it for the movement speed buff on dodge roll and the great synergy of magnum shot into crit rush. This is my personal go to weapon because it allows you to kite a bit while maintaining some in your face tactics.
    3. Dual wield is great for aoe with steel tornado. Under the right circumstances you can use flying blade for some great ranged damage, the major brutality buff, and a bit of snare. The veil of blade skill can be used as a stamina based shield and rapid strikes can provide some great single target damage. The problem with DW is it has great skills in pve because of the utility but unfortunately these skills don't translate exceptionally well into pvp.

I like the 2h + bow combo for those 1vx situations where I want to get some space or I need to engage someone from range and force them to come to me rather than rushing into the zerg. I tend to be in your face but I find that with some of the nerfs in place it's not the smartest way to play when facing a group (unless you have a lot of cp, then you can do what you want as the nerfs are little more than nuisances at that point).

Ty, really covers up some of my questions.. But as a newbie i feel like im overhelm by how vasts the dk are, Im here using 2h picked up a 1h set of swords.. having a ton of fun going back and forth between these two weapons. Will i be having a problem later on as to not having a skill unlock? Im simply asking, how do i go bout leveling a skill trait if i decide to switch over to one? Is it gna take me 1day of grinding or 1hr?

Im lv 10 right now, such a fun class to play.. current setup is 2h for quest bosses/any bosses and dual weild for just killing mobs,exploring,etc..
What level do i focus more on unlocking skills? im thinking of just being 2h + bow during pvp.. since im more of dps than tank

I warn all new stamina DK players to stay away from the bloody butcher build build because a lot of the skills and tricks mentioned in that video do not work like they did in patch 1.6. For instance, he talks about using medium attacks to proc molten armaments. this does not work anymore and the DPS lose is considerable. He also talks about the ravenger set, which triggers weapon damage on melee attacks. this now has an extended cooldown and therefore loses more DPS waiting for the proc. there are some good fundamentals in that build, things like how or where you get weapon power from, but the build itself is completely outdated especially for pvp.

2 hand is very strong and only gets better as you level to VR16. It doesn't have the best AoE as the cone from cleave leaves much to be desired. But overall it is a weapon that you will definitely want to have on at least one bar. Sword and shield is a great defensive setup and give some additional staying power in tough fights. In PvE solo or in groups I will switch out bow for 1h+ shield for tanking or just tougher content as it fits my upclose playstyle. For PvP however, sword and shield is a bit of gift and curse. While it maintains the tanky playstyle for PvE, it suffers because in outnumbered situations it leaves the DK in a constant fight node, perhaps sometimes where flight is a better option. For this reason I use bow. Bow give range for DK and a movement speed bonus that make moving around a battlefield fun and engaging. You will never match the mobility of a nightblade but it give the DK that added movement needed to stay alive without having to go vamp. AoE is not as important in PvP as it is in PvE as most enemy players will not just move into position for a well placed AoE bomb. for PvP I tend to engage players individually or at most 1v 3 or 4. I have taken on more but the skill of the players involved heavily determines the outcome. most players in pvp run in zergs and because of this they feel over confident that they can win. I use the range and mobility of bow to draw a small group from the zerg, take them out then move on. this allows me to be up close and personal with a number of players I can handle in most cases and in those instances where it does not work out that way in the horde all flock to me, I have enough space and range to flee with my life to fight another day. In group play or even small group play I'm more confident with a 1h+ shield as a second weapon (2h is always on at least one bar for my stam DK) as I am not reliant on movement as I am sustaining myself in those engagements. My goal here is to generate ultimate and banner or meteor the most players I can while keeping myself alive to see the fireworks.

as far as weapon traits or specific skills go, I would always tell players to go with either armor penetration or crit. Armor for PvP, Crit for PvE, though this is changing somewhat as more players are going divines in pvp to max out mundus values and crit is much more viable as impenetrable trait is becoming less frequently used. This idea of armor penetration for PvP is great synergy for a skill like Burning breath which reduces armor values and applies a dot. The dot is pathetic and will likely be purged or cloaked away, but the intention is to lower the armor resistance to force that reaction from the player. If I must add a skill or fact that I think is necessary to mention as a stamknight, I would like to point out that magic is a great secondary resource for dragonknight class. many of the games best CC is magic based and I use my magic specifically for that purpose. Not to mention that the whole draconic line has a passive that gives 12% healing in PvE and 6% healing in PvP. So things like Scales or spiked armor (it doesn't really matter the morph), even Talons give a bit of defense and healing potential for the duration, couple this with igneous shield, which although a weak damage shield, provides 30% extra healing in PvE and 15% healing in PvP and you can manage some tough situations on just rally and pots alone. When you get Vigor unlocked it gives some serious healing potential. always slot at least one spammable Earthen heart ability as the passive here are too good to pass up. Returned stamina, ultimate regeneration, increased healing (if you choose igneous shield), extra weapon damage while in combat and some great CC makes this skill line the stamknights playground as this is where the majority of your excess magic will go.

I normally tell stam DK players to pick a good long lasting draconic line power (mine is Coagulated Blood, a morph of dragons blood, (its an instant heal and gives and additional 8% healing in pve, 4% in pvp) and then I use my spammable earthen heart ability (igneous shield) and a good CC from either Draconic of earthen heart line. These represent my magic usage. Coagulated blood runs as long as rally does and every time you pop igneous it increases the healing that you are receiving by a total of 25% in pvp. 4% passive from coagulated blood, 6 % from the draconic line and 15% from igneous.....if you level alchemy you will likely be running a tripot anyway for the magic, healing and stamina regen buff and the one from green dragon blood does not stack with it. Its not nearly as powerful as the old DK healing wise but it get the job done.
