Are there any plans to give us a one-handed option for magicka/spell power builds?

No no, weapons like wands, magic weapons, etc is what I'm alluding to. Staves are two-handed.

I just want to be able to basic attack (light/heavy) with a weapon that scales off spell damage while I use my shield. It would allow magicka tanks' weave to be on par with everyone else's weave.

Who wants to bet that there will eventually be a set who's 5 piece bonus is: "Light and heavy weapon attacks with this weapon will now scale with magicka and spell damage instead of stamina and weapon damage"?

Then again, they don't seem to want magicka users to also have strong blocking, so maybe not.

Sounds like you are looking for the weapon system of Rift or GW2, where you have way more variety of weapons for all classes and magic-type classes in particular are not just limited to a lousy two weapons like destro/restro we have. There are totems, wands, focus, torches, warhorns, as well as the usual array of "warrior" weapons for 1h and shields, 2h, and of course bows.

Truth is we could use a little variety in the weapon department in any case, as a dual weilding magicka based characters (merely for the increased spell power) makes about as much sense as liver on ice cream.
