UMMM this is a FTP (essentially) game they do actually have to make money here you know. So a cosmetics shop is by far the best way to do that without impacting gameplay. Without it the game would run out of money exceptionally quickly. A cash shop + a sub is bad (WoW) and that is an evil. But if you want to be able to play this game then your gonna have to suck it up and grow up about it

Creating a cash shop is a business decision. As a programmer myself I understand that some decisions Come From Above and we just have to live with them and make our programs work as best we can within those parameters. Really all we can do about it is whine. But *as cash shops go* this one seems minimally intrusive. And selling pure vanity items like non-fighting pets and mounts is very mild. I can see the potential you are talking about and I don't see why that can't co-exist with the cash shop, each having items not available the other way.

How about this as an idea: You quest to give your pet the ability to fight with you. Until you do this any pet you earn or buy won't fight (like now). You might even have to put skill points into your pet's abilities.

What I AM okay with is the suggestion that these things go in new zones that I have paid for then I earn them in there. But I'm not dropping $20 to unlock a quest where I chase down some ridiculous looking ice horse.

I'm ok with quests that make crown store items available because I can still say no, I won't spend money on that. But the idea of purchases that make content available bothers me. Not sure why, I know lots of games have DLCs and this is just a incremental form of that. Still, it feels like PTW or hostageware.

You misunderstand. Use your imagination. What if you buy a fire horse and you get that fire horse PLUS a quest-line that features the fire horse and it's uses. Running across Lava would be kind of cool....

I haven't bought any mounts and have only bought a couple pets in the Crown Store... if every Crown Store item opened a new individual quests for that pet or mount. Even if it was just 30 minutes or so, I would totally buy it. I would have every pet and every mount.

If I could feed my pets and could see progress, like that they grow up, I would gladly take one with me.
Would be cool to add a gimmick, that pets will find an random item for you 1 time a day if you have the pet with you.

But as it stands now, pets are useless and boring in my opinion, they are too passive.

Just to make it clear, I'm talking about actual pets

not summoned creatures.

@Riko_Futatabi I intentionally bumped it.. I do have the PTS installed, have been in Orsinium, read the patch notes, as well as asked around, and have not heard of any new mount in game. I guess my post was a bit rhetorical in the sense that I went looking.. and as far as I can tell.. there is none.

Incidentally, I do have a relevant anecdote for this topic. My fiancé found one of the Stonefire Scamps after IC's release and was really excited about it (and me super jealous about it, it's a sweet pet). I thought it was awesome of ZOS to add a way for DLC purchasers (the ones who paid the crowns) to get cool vanity items by playing the content instead of investing additional crowns on top of what they already paid. I hope ZOS continues this for future dlc's, but my only request would be to make the acquisition of at least some small subset of such items be quest rewards instead of RNG dependent loot drops.

I liked that they added costume and pet drops in-game with Imperial City too. Now we just need some interesting ways to get mounts!
