What about if you don't own the DLC? Anybody tested picking up the writs before buying it?
It would make no sense to be forced to turn in writs to a place where you can't access...

I assume you will still need to use the VR15/16 materials, but turn them in another place. Kind of like how a maxed-out crafter who is not VR will never be sent to Craglorn to turn in writs.

Yeah, that would be my assumption too... but since I already bought the DLC on the PTS, I cannot test what happens :(

When you don't have the DLC you get the old writs (Voidstone, Shadowhide etc), even with max crafting skills.

Rest assured we’ve heard the complaints! We have a change coming in for 2.2.2 (that is, next PTS) that will do the following:
    • Increase the number of top-tier material nodes you see in battle-leveled areas.
    • Change Writs to use the penultimate materials as well as the ultimate materials.

When this reaches PTS, we’d like you all to take a fresh look at the nodes and writs, and give us your feedback again.

Sounds good or at the very least better. Guess we will have to see ratio of ultimate and penultimate writs as well as the increase in nodes.

Attention, ZOS. Make these Orsinium writs really, really worth doing. Otherwise, you are incentivizing people to not buy the DLC because the old VR9-VR14 writs are a better return on investment. Now, am I really going to drop my subscription so I can get a better ROI on writs? Probably not. But that the thought, "Writs are actually better without the DLC," crossed my mind should give you pause! :-)

And testing out the Hirelings on the pts and the new tier hirelings dont really bring in anything much worthwhile, 1 raw material of the v15-16 mats, meanwhile finding a node that gives of those mats gives 3-4 or 7-8 with the plentifull harvest perk, Particulary laughable when you add in the fact that rubedo leather scraps are also dropped by random monsters now (with skills active). Hirelings are still not that usefull, they dont much of any worth.

Unlike existing hireling mails which deliver raw materials in batches of 5, on the PTS you 'can' receive mails of tier 10 materials with 10 raws.

I'll try to remember to edit this with a screenshot when I'm able to

Apologies, everyone. Below is what was added in patch 2.2.1 for writs:
    • Writs are available in Orsinium for anyone who has reached the peak of crafting skill.
      • These writs will occasionally provide Survey Reports in Wrothgar leading to noteworthy caches of the materials used to produce them. This does include Rubedite, Ancestor Silk, and Ruby Ash Wood.
      • Satisfying equipment-based writs requires somewhat less materials than previous tiers, given the scarcity of the materials involved.
      • Writs for this tier can be handed in at the supply master in Orsinium, near the entrance to the city.

None of that posted changes what people have said in the thread. If players aren't guaranteed to get better or even equal mats to what they used, then it's a waste to do them.

Also, what do players/crafters that do not buy orsinium end up doing if they have max crafting? Will they automatically be asked to craft those high level mats without a way to gather the mats and be asked to turn them in somewhere they can't travel?

Even with hireling bringing raw mats and sometimes the horrible RNG in this game gifting you the ability to find WHITE level mats at your own level and with needing less mats to do the writs, it will still be a waste of time to do them in most cases. Why use thousands of gold of mats to get the chance at one gold upgrade mat you could buy for a couple thousand gold.

Fact is, EVERY SINGLE node you find should be your level. They are WHITE level mats. It shouldn't be more rare than any of the upgrades needed. The fact that people are more worried about wasting the white mats needed on one miscrafted piece vs the gold mats means it is poorly designed. When you are using RNG to penalize white level mats by giving players mats to levels they dont use/need anymore, then it's poorly designed. If we make gear and complete writs using the new mats, then there is no reason for anyone that isn't of that level to gather or use v10-14 mats.

    Thanks for responding in the thread, and indeed I read this earlier, but;

Unless the survey harvest nodes don't have the zone-wide RNG attached, "scarcity" is an understatement.

Have you fine folks actually done a cost comparison of Tier 9 Writs to Tier 10? I think you'll find the investment is a losing proposition, even in the unlikely event that fragments are found.

Don't know about others, but I will probably let my top crafting characters (which happen to be the ones I play most) stick to Tier 9 Writs. Working as intended?

So the clear solution is don't buy Orsinium if you don't want to get stuck with those writs.

Or sub one month, play Orsinium, and then cancel sub to get lower writs.

Here's multiple examples of receiving 10x raws per hireling mail instead of 5. This further increases the income of tier 10 materials, so people should stop freaking out so much about v15 writs. They're just promoting having alts with maxed crafting passives as well, which people will like or dislike.

I'm still planning on skipping the v15 writs altogether until I see good evidence from people that they will net you money rather than lose it. I guess I don't have much trust.

Unfortunately the part about 'Writs are available in Orsinium for anyone who has reached the peak of crafting skill' is not true, or if it is supposed to be true, it is buggy.

My non vet characters have reached the peak of crafting and are not granted the writs for Orsinium... they are still only given Coldharbour level.

Is this restriction supposed to be in place or not?

Has anyone tried to use 9/10 points into a crafting skills with writs to see if it calls for void items or if it's still looking for the v15 ruby items? Or maybe there is a way to down scale the writs by going to craglorn? If not this is a huge blow to the crafter writs, here's why

    How we currently get mats:
Stealing - will match your level up to v14 void material
Breaking down Loot - adventure, do stuff, get mats from what you break down, about 0 to 4 mats
Hirelings - once a day for a handful of scraps
Farming nodes - normally 3+ to get one combine and maybe 3+ combines to get 1 item. Surveys might give you 4-5 nodes at double yield

    Rewards:
    - single item, break down fodder or vendor loot
    - upgrade mats, single, trait loot
    - surveys
    - chance at a glass fragment.

    Now, in the new system....

Stealing - Won't work, we can't steal items above v14 still
Breaking down Loot - if you're not v15 then you don't get v15 or v16 gear to break down. In addition you only get 1 mat pre any break down. In addition this is limited to ordinium, IC, and dungeon loot
Hirelings - now they are giving scraps, meaning you'll need to wait a day or two for enough items to refine
Farming nodes - low spawn rate for ruby node compared to void mats or what ever level you need.

So, depending of level and interest, this makes these mats for a writ a very hard, and for those not at level but high crafting it will seem impossible to keep with theur dailies.

Suggested solution: make Orsinium writs seperate to the normal ones. Normal ones can still peak in craglorn with void material and has the chance for the rewards listed still. Orsinium will offer a second set of writs that can be done daily. This allows folks a chance to level up through writs faster if they have the dlc (a bonus for those that get it). Folks will get ruby writs if the have 10 of 10 crafting and are v15+.
