Writ changes not included in patch notes

So now a new tier of writs are released, which wasn't mentioned anywhere in patch notes.

There's a few details about it which aren't anywhere in the patch notes.

-Writs now require you to craft v15 gear
-The amount of items to craft for blacksmith, woodwork, and clothing is now halved
-The new writ turn-in is located inside Wrothgar's main city, Orsinium

I have not tested to find out if these new survey maps can drop nirncrux, I've only gotten alchemy surveys on the PTS so far.

Even at half mats this is still bad news.... given the horrendous drop rates everybody is reporting for the nodes on PTS, and the huge number of mats required to craft V16 gear I just can't see anybody doing these.....

It's more profitable to sell the mats than waste on these

Of course they could do something decent like add Perfect Roe to the alchemy writ urn loot table?

Hopefully there will be major changes to the new writs before 11/2, as woodworking and provisioning have bugs preventing their completion.

What really sucks is that anyone who went 10/10 to be able to craft new IC mats will now be forced to do writs with those mats, regardless where they take those writs. There is no way I'll continue to do daily writs for glass fragments if I have to farm for extremely rare and valuable mats. I'll have to either level an alt to 9/10 or repec out of 10/10. The DLCs seem very anti-crafting.

It's a shame... because I Actually disagree with some of the comments that they are entirely anti-crafting.There's been some changes & additions which are nice for crafting.... but others (Like this one) which then totally break the good work.

EG. The new styles..... Xivkyn looks ace, and some like glass.... lots of new Orsinium motifs etc.

New crafted sets are actually viable for many builds: EG Armor Master.... The new 'Law of Julianos' will be the new magicka DPS standard go-to set.

But then they waste it all by making the stupid quantity of mats, and then making them crazy to get hold of. and then rubbing salt into the wound further by making the writs work with these already horrifically rare mats! What next.... using Perfect Roe for alchemy writs?

Yes, you can use VR15. But let's say you spend 40 ancestor silk to create 3 items for a writ. You could sell those 40 ancestor silk for probably like 20,000 gold. Why in the world would you spend 20,000g in material on a writ that will often give you nothing much beyond it's 600g quest turn in? Even on a good day when you get a gold upgrade mat or a glass motif fragment or a survey, you will still never make up in writ rewards what you spent on material.

Do you think ZOS care? This is the reason, most will just sell mats and dont do the writs.
So less Glassfragments/Motifiparts are in game = more ppls will buy it from store

Does anything useful drop from the vr15 writs?

Nodes in Crag can drop Nirn, which makes it useful. Gold mat rewards are nice too, but if there is nothing unique shouldnt I just respec to 9/10 for writs?

I would not be opposed to purple and gold chapters dropping

There are 3 treasure maps per profession as rewards too (I've datamined maps)

Alchemy and Cooking should be easy
Enchanting.. if it's 1 v15 rune, it could be ok, but borderline with a treasure map.

Doing 3 v15 crafts is way too expensive. Please scale to 2. 2 crafts is ~14k gold. Are there a 14k gold rewards in thoses nodes ?

And if possible, if we could have malachite frags in super nodes of treasure maps, it'll be nice. and for orsinium, the fragment for ancient orc?

You have got to be kidding me... please tell me this is just a joke...
If your going to lock high tier crafting behind a pay wall the least you can do is make it meaningful.

There goes any enthusiasm I had for this DLC... 0 from 2 so far devs, call me when you do a DLC that I might be interested in.

So you did two writs, which took hours to gather materials, and for which the materials could probably sell for about 30,000 gold, and in return you got trash and a dreugh wax, which is buyable for about 3,000 gold from guild stores.

This is an epic fail, ZoS.

    EPIC FAIL.

Even if you got the best possible reward-- a glass page and a tempering alloy... at best you still only break even. Those combined are worth about 14,000 gold in the current market.

For the writs to be worthwhile there has to be the possibility of a reward far greater than the investment to complete the writ.

Even with the reduction in the number of items required to be crafted.... 3 items, approx 15 mats each at V15.... that's around 45 mats.

Now lets say they sell for an average of 500 gold each at present.... that's over 22k investment to complete each writ!

As somebody mentioned above... the highest return possible is maybe a glass fragment (8k), a yellow temper(4-8k dependent on writ), and maybe a nirncrux (7k).

At absolute best this is break even..... but obviously almost no writ reward ever writ drops a glass fragment, a yellow temper, and a nirncrux! And if it did then the prices would plummet... ironically compounding the problem!

    Just isn't worth it.

Which interestingly will compound the rising yellow temper price issue as fewer yellow tempers/glass fragments/nirncrux will be on the market as nobody will do top level writs!

Looks like the rewards are about the same as Craglorn except the mats are rarer by a factor of ten. Easier to just do the Craglorn writs.

The new writs would have to drop something unique for it to be worthwhile. Who is going to spend x3 the time to gather mats when you can just do one tier down faster for the same rewards? Only difference is the token piece of equipment is vr15? So what.

I forgot to test this on pts and I dont want to download it again, do steal-able weapons now scale to vr15 or 16? You know, like how you can go to your level 1-10 zone and steal weapons and they will be voidsteel currently (or other mats) do they now scale all the way up or is it still void-style?

Well the problem is this. To get the new materials from Orsinium, you need all the top tier of crafting passives.

But when you get the top tier of crafting passives, you then are forced to do the top tier of writs. You don't get a choice in the matter.

Therefore you will see people having a single character that needs max skills do all the resource gathering, and then you need alternate characters to do the craglorn voidstone/nightwood/shadowhide/void cloth writs.

It just doesn't make sense. ZoS is building in walls that constrain how a person would intelligently play the game.

Has anybody gotten a survey report out of these writs yet?

After the requirements were lowered in the last patch, I thought I might give it another try, see if it pays off now.
Long story short, still doesn't. You spend around ~40 materials for a trait stone, a repair kit and a white item. Althought I got 2 Glass Fragments so far out of 4 writs, so the chance for those might be a bit higher than lower ranking writs. Would need more data on that, but even then, I don't think it's worth it.

The worst thing is this kills writs for everyone. There is no way to do the lower ranking writs unless you want to constantly reset your crafting skills. If you could only get the VR15 writs in Orsinium and everywhere else it remained the same it would be different, but the current implementation is a disaster.

Additionally, to even craft these items and refine them at a reasonable rate requires 10+ skills points. Crafting is becoming a huge sink, and not in a good way. Remember when ZOS said you would be able to craft the best items in the game? Well you still can, it will just cost you 60 skill points, 6 months of research time, and ~50k gold per day in resources to acquire the materials to craft these items now. Even more if you want v16. And the best part is we still can't create jewlery for crafted sets!

Yeah. I have different characters crafting from gathering now and assumed most people did too. The only difference I see for me is that I need to max craft one of my mules. I already have a max crafter so I can make my own decon items

Shouldnt take long, except for enchanting. Enchanting still sucks.

Its inconvenient because I currently hunt / gather with my main.

Not sure how this works but I have my blacksmithing maxed out on my main. Crafted on Orsinium on the first day and then got a blacksmithing writ in Craglorn and it asked for Rubidium ingots.

What happens to those that don't get the Orsinium DLC and craft in Craglorn? Will they continue to get voidstone, etc. writs or will they be SOL for crafting materials?

Roughly translated, he says that you still find V10-14 mats because they are still needed for dailies. The ratio should supposedly be 4(old):1(new).

I asked which dailies he's referring to, since the writs definitely require the new mats. Moreover the ratio is far from 4:1 in my experience.

It's all about business and profits.
We have what's left of the player base with all of their characters on their one to three accounts with maximum crafting skills doing writs right now.
With the update, being forced to use the exotic materials, the players will be spending the 700 crowns per character for Skill Re-specification Scrolls. That's 7 scrolls per account, at 7 times $7.99 (750 crowns for $7.99) for $55.93 plus tax!
