Basically, the problem is population imbalance. There are only two choices and you will pick one.

Answer honestly now. You are given a choice between two campaigns, which one do you pick?

A campaign where my faction is one bar and one or both of other factions are poplocked

i.e. the best place to farm AP! However that's not always feasible. Consider that those pop locked factions could either be in Imperial City, or be such a huge zerg that it just gets ridiculously annoying for my 6 - 12 man group to enjoy the game. This invariably results in us logging off and disbanding, or being forced to go somewhere else!

I always go to where I am the underdog, i still remember being AD on Chillrend during Hova and Kamis multi-month reigns, EP on Haderus when the yellow zerg had that thing locked down tighter than ADX Florence, DC on Trueflame/Haderus/Thornblade, AD on Thorn when Havoc/IR/SotP had a massive presence and poplock 24/7 there, Dawnbreaker 1.0 as AD when blue pretty much ruled the roost.

But wherever I actively play, I absolutely avoid being part of the dominant poplock. Thats just stupid. And its the biggest problem with this game, the vast majority of the casual playerbase swarms to where they are already thickest, and PvP becomes arbitrary with dead campaigns and horrible imbalances.

If I join a campaign and see the map is monocolor for my current faction... I immediately get angry because I know there will be no PvP for that entire week or month. Its just stupid.

I really think the only answer to this is ZOS allowing faction change. Many of my friends won't even consider rerolling a new character. Now that Orsinium will bring with it a CP cap I'm afraid what ever chance I had changing their minds has been eliminated since non vet characters do not earn CP. The only option i can see is for faction change being instituted some how. Please ZOS, give us an option :p

I have, am, and always will be part of the solution. COVENANT since beta, 0 sissy alts, name on forums matches character's name. And I've told many to take out candy from their diet and replace it with a daily serving of Greek yogurt. Enough said.

Not to mention I am also currently homed in Chillrend where if I'm on there the only reason the pop is two bars is because of my biceps.

Part of the problem is people and guilds that constantly campaign hop, even if trying to be the underdog. Red significantly outnumbered blue on TF last cycle, blues are told come to TF there are good fights to be had, and your guild bounces. So, devil's advocate, while it's nice that you try and play the underdog, people constantly shifting campaigns also contributes to the population imbalance.

ive already stated the reasons for the move but I will re-summarize.

    - Zaz has this thing with being emp at least once on every campaign
    - Someone made a thread somewhere that VE might be going to Axe
    - There were too damn many reds on Trueflame (and we knew Haxus was coming, someone told us)
    - We heard there was a delicious yellow trashtalk zerg on Axe to farm
    - From what I understand the Axe move was meant to be temporary, but we havent seen much point to playing on True because the redblob got really blobby. If we came back, it would be even more imbalanced.
    - VE hasnt been playing and Rage went to Azuras. So the competitive fights wouldnt be happening anyway.

As much as I'd like to be fighting GoS, wasn't trying to be critical of the move. With haxus, SWP, and the rest of the reds that like to blob on top of haxus, GoS on top of all of that would probably be a bit too much given the current pop on TF. I was just pointing out in general that guilds (and we're guilty of it as well) that campaign hop contribute to population imbalances. I'd love it if the giganto-zerg guilds would all play on one campaign and the rest can just stay put on another campaign and fight there.

I have to agree with the quote. If you are homed on a campaign, stay there. You choose that campaign for a reason. The problem is that it is not the underdog faction that is campaign jumping. It is those who have killed the PVP on their home campaign and then jumping to another campaign that is the biggest problem. Don't kill PVP for everyone else. If you are bored, then roll an alt. It is better to roll an alt than to completely kill PVP on the entire game.

The OP left out a few options on the poll. I am on the campaign that my guild has decided to call home. But, I am also a loyal member of the Covenant, which has always been under populated.

Its just something ive gotten used to. We move somewhere (usually a blue or yellow buff server), liberate it, get then natives fighting us hard, they call in their buddies, suddenly the zergs hear pvp is happening, and next thing ya know, one of the "big" three shows up and it goes to hell quickly from there.

If that AD blob hadnt showed up from Azuras the day the campaigns flipped over, the reds wouldnt have gotten bored on Azuras and come to True too.

So in essence I do agree with you but usually we move to places long before others do.

its only a matter of time now before TKZerg invades Axe.

LOL, so according to the poll, absolutely everyone plays on campaigns where their faction has 1-bar.

    The actual problem is:

    Too much campaign switching
    Furthermore, the megaserver itself
The loss of the best dynamic population control mechanism possible: gated IC access

Blaming the players, for doing what MMO players do, which is seeking advantages however they see fit, will accomplish nothing but start arguments. It is ZOS that has set the table; they are the only ones that can affect player behavior. Not polls or condemnations.

FWIW, I home/guest, always, on the two BUSIEST campaigns, regardless of how many bars my faction has.

    Yes!

Neither of your choices was the driving motivation for me to pick my current campaign.
I picked a campaign where the color of map changes frequently, partially due to different faction groups coming online at different times.

My reasoning was simple, a campaign like that has the most diversity and gives you plenty of offensive *and* defensive play.

Until and unless there is no reason/desire for buff servers, we are going to continue to see this. Alas, IC was a wash when it came to solving this problem, for several reasons.

    1. ZOS didn't actually solve the problem whereby large zergs can travel to any campaign they wish. The only thing the changes they made actually did was simply make it more buggy and convoluted to travel from campaign to campaign.
    2. ZOS removed the PvP buffs from PvE (yay! we thought that would mean the death of the buff server) but then promptly had the buffs in IC (logical, of course, seeing as technically IC is in Cyrodiil and it is a PvP zone), which meant, once again, people wanting those buffs while farming for mats, stones, etc. thus once again, we have factions homing in on servers where they have the advantage.
    3. Axe is quickly proving that, if the rest of the servers follow along, we will be even more likely to have buff servers because locking out the other two factions 100% of the time means 100% unfettered, no need to worry about losing stones, access to IC. Sure, anyone of the other two factions who were in IC can stay there after the lockout - but if you are outnumbered down there and your friends can't get in at all anyway, you eventually give up and leave.

Well if I am going to assume a hypothetical and there are (unrealistically) no other options...

At least in a campaign where you are outnumbered there is SOMETHING to do. If you are the pop locked alliance you sit there having to wait for something to happen, which sucks even more than getting repeatedly steamrolled.

This changes though with IC, as now if you are faced with either situation you can simply go into IC and grind.
