Well dang it, I came into this thread only to find that @Bookwyrm already said all the things I was going to say.

I guess the only thing I have to add is that I've got all of the horses purchasable with in-game gold - some were bought before the switch to horse skins being account-wide, and some were bought after. Gold is fake money and comes easily, so why not get them all and give yourself equine options? If you're just starting out, though, go for the 10K horse. You can always get another one later if you like the look of a different one better.

    ^^^ This.

I have all the horses. Every single one ever sold. No cats, no gaur, just horses. And I have 135k in my bank.

@UrQuan is right. Gold is fake money and it comes easily. I know it doesn't seem that way when you scrambling at level 5, but I think somewhere in the second, maybe third zone, I started to really bank it. Of course, I was selling any crafting mats I couldn't use at the time and keeping my bank storage to 140 (maybe 160) while selling everything else.

Funny thing is: I remember posting a thread on this forum way back when asking people to tell me how much money they had. People were like 300k or even 1 million (really). I remember thinking: NO WAY! But then I started selling stuff I didn't need and at higher levels the quests really start to pay out. At one point - true story - I bought like 8 bank upgrades at once because I had nothing else to spend money on.

How do you earn 10k a day as a new player, playing normally and not farming all the time?

You have to have "earning money" as a primary consideration in your play. I don't. I have played for about 2 years, and still don't have more than maybe 20-40k between all 8 characters at a time (gets higher than that, I buy bank space or bag space).

    I have the 10k horse.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

The cheapest horse is 10k. There is absolutely no difference in stats between mounts, despite the description. You can easily earn 10k per day, even just starting out.

I think it's harder now. Way back when I first joined, I could count on getting a gold crafting item from hirelings on a fairly regular basis. I even found an occasional gold item when deconstructed something. These all sold for around 5k or more.

Also, crafting motifs (prior to the Crown Store opening) were selling for 700 gold in some guilds. I sold a number of the basic motifs for that amount. I also gave a bunch away.

I remember I found an Ancient Elf motif once and sold it for 40k in something like 15 minutes (no exaggeration).

Now the prices are all lower.

Actually earning gold is easier now... since there's also burglary, which can be quite profitable even at lowbie levels, as long as you take care not to get caught...
Just keep in stealth, only steal when safely "hidden", and always remember - take what you can, give nothing back... ;)

Some crafting motivs sell for less then in days before, but only because many crafters already have all the "common" ones. The rare motivs... are still pricey. And then there's dwemer pages... and scrap... and malachite from treasure chests... and perfect roe from fishing...
Lots of things that crafters may pay dearly for.

Getting a common horse is no big deal even at low levels these days...
