Very true. The "endgame" in ESO is only really available after leveling through all the VR ranks. You are forced to either grind quests your character has 0 connection with, or grind mobs. This is the prime reason my entire guild left.Cherryblossom wrote: »Fat-Larry-Makes-All wrote: »

Because we don't want to be stuck doing the same quests again and again and again and again and again.........

MMO's are not meant to be "Beaten" within a month.. They are meant to be a continual progression of ones playing time and investment...

Because progression for the sake of progression isn't fun, especially when it gates content and requires grinding to get there. MMO only means "massively multiplayer online", not "you must grind for months to play with others."
Look at games like Destiny. Essentially MMOs, but they make the progression a tutorial. Level caps are quick and easy to reach, and the rest of your time is spent choosing where to quest, where to raid, where to PVP, where to explore, and continue improving your gear and skills even though you've reached max level.
It's particularly odd to see gated content in an Elder Scrolls game, when the series is popular for allowing players to go where they want, whenever they want, and the progression systems are typically tied to gear and skill trees more than player level.

Except that leveling in Cyro will take significantly longer than mob-grinding or Cadwell quest-grinding. Playing against max-geared max-level players gets tiring - when you are still leveling.

Yes MMO's have always been about gated content as far as gear requirement and levels. I mean at least all of the successful ones.. You know the ones that paved the way for all of the other MMO's.
I know a lot of people get upset about that, but I mean they must have been doing something right....
I am not saying I agree with the choice of the Silver/Gold system as I think that was just a filler for lack of content. I do however think that content should require players to be geared correctly as this in not a single player game. Players should have to "Grind" to a certain extent to obtain gear and skills as that is what separates MMO's from just plain Single player game.

See, many of us see it the other way around. This is an Elder Scrolls game where the devs tried too hard to please MMO players, resulting in some stunted version of a TES game with MMO features attached. I can give you countless examples.
Both arguments work. The real problem here is that the devs couldn't work out what they wanted the game to be, other than WoW in Tamriel, or DAoC 2, and so they ended up created a game that tried appealing to two different groups and as a result didn't completely satisfy either.
You could argue it's in the MMO genre, so should be 100% MMO. I can argue it's called The Elder Scrolls, advertised as such, and so should adhere to the series' core features and simply be a co-op version of that.

Just because MMOs released ten years ago were successful with extensive grinding, gated content, and high level caps reached through months of questing, doesn't mean that's the only formula for success for MMOs. The most successful MMOs today are WoW and Destiny. WoW's playerbase is falling year-over-year, while Destiny's is increasing. I guarantee ESO would have been a significantly more successful game had it followed Destiny's (and The Elder Scroll's) route of non-gated content, progression tied to skills and gear rather than levels, and a more open approach to gameplay.
The fact that so many people argue whether this game should be an MMO or a TES game shows just how far off the mark the devs were about development. Clearly TES doesn't work as a tradtional MMO given the series' core principles, and clearly trying to force those principles into an MMO upsets traditional MMO players. They needed to be creative and forward-thinking like Destiny has been (though that game's delivery was still far from perfect, the potential it has is insane and its popularity proves they're on the right track), instead of saying "Let's make WoW in Tamriel with DAoC's PVP system! That'll work!"

The biggest cancer that will kill this game is the fact that ZOS tries to make it a ES series game.. If ZOS wants to make a single player friendly game then they should go do it. IF ZOS wants to actually make a successful MMO then they are going to have to break away from the ES purest mindset.
Funny thing is.. ZOS was actually on the right track to making a decent MMO back in the early beta days of this game. ESO had scrolling combat info and a mini map on a decent UI.. Then the ES lore purest came along and started QQing. Well ZOS changed the UI and now look at the game. Everything that people are wanted added to the game for the most part WAS in the game until the "mersion" people ruined it.
Guess what.. Most of those people have left ESO a long time ago.. Now ESO is left here trying to survive and attract MMO players after being abandoned by those "mersion" players!
I think Sallington said it best with this a few months back.

You get reduced XP for VR mobs that are significantly below your VR level, but you still get some XP for all mobs level 45 on up, even if you're VR16. I should know - my VR16 is still working on his VR8 zone of Cadwell's Gold.Kind of confused about how you're getting XP.Prof_Bawbag wrote: »I'v only began the 2nd area in Gold and I'm midway to vet 13. The 2nd Gold area has VR7 mobs, at VR13 you're 6 levels above which means you get no XP. Yes, you'll get quest XP but without mob XP your progress will be noticeably slower.

Sorry, but you're wrong. You're entitled to an opinion of what you'd like the game to be, but it's always been a mix of MMO and TES, not one over the other.
It's why the game is advertised with the line: "Join friends, jump online, and journey throughout Tamriel in the latest instalment of the celebrated Elder Scrolls Series."
It's why Matt Firor recently said "I think really what we didn’t do a good job of was telling people what the game is... Don’t expect Skyrim, don’t expect EverQuest – this is its own thing and you can play it solo, which we definitely didn’t talk about enough. Everyone thought we were making this hardcore MMO and that’s simply not the case. It just has some MMO features."
As for saying most "immersion" fans left long ago, nope, we're still here, and thanks to Orsinium focusing on being more of a single player TES game than an MMO we'll be around for a long time yet. They're realizing their playerbase, and the Elder Scroll fans, want a game called the Elder Scrolls to play like the Elder Scrolls, but with optional co-op. That might not be what you want, but it's what the dev team have always strived for. If you want a hardcore MMO, this is never going to be that game. It never has been, was never intended to be, and never will be.
