I do not think it is a hack if they are all in the same place when you logged out.

In all honesty I don't remember where I was when I logged out but I'm pretty sure I was already in or near the bank anyway

Not heard from ZoS yet but it isn't looking promising

Despite whoever/whatever did this, the amount of friends on here is something to smile about

I tried to change my eso account password but it's not recognising my answer to my security question. So I can't log in to my account now either.

Who could possibly blame you for being impatient? Everyone would be in this case. Damn it's too bad that it's weekend now, I assume you'll get a reply not sooner than Monday... But I really hope you'll get back all your things (and be able to login to your account!) and can continue playing like before

It's simple if it is a bug or something related to the game they can see it, but you must contact customer support quick.
They can check logs and see what happened. Once i did a mistake, deconstructed an infused master bow they checked before the log to see if i really deconstructed it and than kindly gave it back to me.

I had a nice, more helpful response this morning. The talked me through the password changes I need to make - apparently hackers access your account through email so be sure to change your email password often! I also was sent a separate email to allow me to change my game account password. So 3 passwords have been changed now

I followed the instructions so I'm hoping my account is safe(r) now. They said they will start investigating my missing items so I'll keep this thread updated.

Many games have this autenticator where you need to enter a unique code every time you log in, together with your password. Is this something that would be good in eso?

You mean retrieving some e-mail sent code each time you log in, everyday, and copy/paste it ??
God no, I'd stop playing immediately.
I want a game, not a restricted access area with tons of control at the entrance.

No.
Diablo have it and it semms really safe.
I am also sure other mmo's have this as well.
Its not copy paste, its an application, you have to manually write in the code, and the code resets every 20 seconds or something.

I think some kind of security measure would be good to prevent it happening, even if it's a required password change or a reminder to change your linked email password. I never knew I could be hacked like this before experiencing it. A warning or something to others would be a cool idea.

The thing is, about being robbed, in any form, is that it is just darn bad luck that they've picked on you.

All you can do is make your 'place' as unattractive to the 'burglar' as you possibly can so that the scumbags don't pick you and move on to an easier target.

On all the modern technology we use now, we're all at risk from being hacked by people who do it, just because they can.
They don't even really need or want your stuff.

It's just a form of vandalism perpetrated by sad, angry people with a major brain malfunction.
What type of nutcase do you have to be to get a kick out of ruining some complete strangers day?

It's pretty hard not to take the attack personally but the reality is, when this happens to you, you were just unlucky.

I've been mugged IRL before and this experience has inspired me to write an article for my website about the parallels of being robbed on the street and in a game. The feeling of being unsafe, anxiety, fear, invasion... All of those emotions were mirrored in both events. When it happened on the street I was physically assaulted and the police didn't do their jobs right. 2 years later the Superintendent of the force came to my house to apologise in person. So even the aftermath of both events, the hopelessness, the feeling that nobody will help - that's similar too.

Hey @Cazzy - I started to reply to your last post to explain the law as it currently applies to this problem in the USA and the UK and what I think would be a suitable consequence for the people that carry out these crimes and it started to turn into a full blown thesis!
Suffice to say, it makes me very, very vexed indeed for alll the reasons you posted earlier.
No-one should have the power to make you feel that way.

In theory it may sound like "my items have been stolen were is my sword of pwng in ESO" but in reality somebody that stole your items literaly violated your sense of safty, your property and put you in disadvantage. Not to mention that he unlocked and drow to atention possible emotions for former incident.

A slight correction and it may just be semantics but, 'your' character actually isn't your charater according to the EULA. We 'rent' game time and space/pixels for which the game producer actually owns everything residing on their private servers. FYI.

Doesn't change the valid feelings though.
