They won't remove the text chat on PC/Mac.

The whole announcement is really confusing. It is like it was written months ago and just released today, unless there is some upgrade or enhancement that they intend to do on the consoles.

This is because no text chat on consoles is intentional. While I do not know what they are intending to do, I do know that no one should expect text chat on the consoles. Come to think if it, they have obviously already told us what they are doing. We all now know that they have had this increasing focus on always letting people know what they are doing. I have simply missed the obscure social media posting, verbal aside in ESO Live, or interview that explains what they are doing with text chat.

P.S. - If this voice chat on PC thing is real, it is interesting to note that the majority of the information we are getting on the future direction of ESO is coming from their business partners, not from ZeniMax.

This looks like a huge unintended troll amplified by all those "news" sites that reproduce info collected via meta search engines and rss feeders without checking any of them.

They act as if voice chat on console were a new thing and as if Vivox partnering with ZOS was a new thing too. If you check the Vivox site, you'll see that they've been the ones implementing the already available console voice chat.

So the whole thing sounds like a big mess.

Furthermore I don't see why they'd spend resources on bringing voice chat to PC since we easily have it via 3rd party software and are (at least the vaaaast majority of us) just happy this way. Virtually noone asked for built-in voice chat on PC.

    Gotta love this article, seriously.
ZeniMax and Vivox have announced a new partnership to bring voice chat technology directly into Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited. Vivox's chat technology will span all of ESO's platforms from PlayStation 4 to XBox One to PC and will allow players to communicate with one another to enhance their game play experiences throughout the game.
"We are excited to incorporate voice chat into the console versions of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, enabling players to easily connect with one another," said Matt Firor, game director, ZeniMax Online Studios. "For us, Vivox was the natural choice, given their multi-platform capabilities, gaming industry pedigree and reliability."

Those news article sites always give me a laugh. They don't do any research, misinterpret quotes and use subjective opinions from other news articles as their sources. By Alkosh they repost the same information like once a week, I'm still getting notifications about articles about an unknown 3rd party company developing 'skyrim 2' because they misinterpreted Pete Hines at e3 when he jokingly said "another games company would roll out skyrim 2 in the next year" (he was emphasizing how bethesda focuses on quality and takes their time, and used that to illustrate his point, but those news articles took his words litterally lol).

Lends a bit more weight to the 'news' articles. Certainly something they seem to have planned for PC.

As for the 'news' articles...I agree they are definitely suspect, maybe ZoS will have some more concrete news during next ESOLive.

BOSTON, Sept. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Vivox announced today that they have partnered with ZeniMax® Online Studios to bring voice chat communication to The Elder Scrolls® Online: Tamriel Unlimited™. Whether on PlayStation® 4 or Xbox One®, millions of players across the globe are able to easily communicate in-game with Vivox's voice chat as they adventure through the legendary world of Tamriel.

With the recent launch of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, players can take advantage of Vivox's natively supported voice chat, both via private channels and publicly based on proximity to other players. If players are wearing a headset and encounter another player, they will be able to engage in real-time communication creating a new level of player experience.

"It is a privilege for Vivox to integrate our voice chat technology into such an esteemed and popular title," said Rob Seaver, CEO, Vivox. "Our instant and clear voice commands bring a truly immersive experience to The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited."

From this, I fail to see that anything other than consoles are meant to get this voice chat. There is no mention of PC and/or Mac whatsoever. The mmorpg.com news states it, but the only source they're quoting is this very same press release, and they link to the ESO News page which somehow doesn't mention this at all.

Edit: Thanks for the reddit link, folks. But the statement given there is 8 months old, while the news above is recent.

You can turn it off, you just have to go into the menu in-game and turn it off in voice chat, very easy.

For me, it works pretty well. If I need to find someone nearby for some help on a quest, all I have to do is ask and hope someone responds.

As for the article, this is old news because it already states that it is incorporated into the console versions of the game. So, you, sir/ma'am, have been trolled.

If this does happen, then I hope that we will have a variety of ways in which to use it. For myself I would probably:

    - Use text for zone chat
    - Use voice chat and text chat at the same time for our guild social events. Possibly also for guild chat.( Not everybody wants to use their voices) PC users can already do this with 3rd party programs , so I hope that if ZOS do implement it- they don't limit it by not allowing the use of both at the same time.
    - Use voice chat for group content.

I'm completely for adding new options to the game, provided that existing options aren't removed from the game.

EDIT: People like to communicate in different ways. ( For interesting reading check out your myers briggs type). In addition, if you live in a house with other people you may not want to be using voice chat at certain times of day. If the only way to communicate in game is voice chat, I'm not sure I would continue playing. Perhaps other people out there are similar to me. So , sure add voice chat but keep text chat options and the ability to use both at the same time (as PC can already do with use of 3rd party programs)
