ESO needs to take more elements from Star Wars Galaxies (Pre Patch)

Some of the more free and open elements from SWG would make an awesome fit in ESO.

Since I have never enjoyed SWG in its prime and only ever heard the sad stories of the CU and NGE (repeated to this day, no less; some grudges sit deep, it seems), I wonder which particular systems and/or game mechanisms you're talking about. How could ESO profit from them, provided that they could be retrofitted and would make sense in the ES universe?

If you would care to elaborate on what exactly they should take from SWG? That way those of us who may not have played it can also partake in this thread.

Kobaal Shadowborn - VR16 NightBlade - PC [NA] Azura Star

Everything about swg pre nge was legendary.

    1. House vendors - Basically every major city had a kiosk you could search at, when you found what you wanted it put a waypoint to that persons store/house and you could go buy it. I loved that.
    2. Housing - swg by far had the BEST housing system, cities, etc. You could build things out of ANYTHING. I made a giant aquarium out of boxes, dice (they looked like bubbles) i mean every little thing could be made into something else.

there are more but people are calling me to cyrodiil. These are the top two that stick out to me.

Oh please no. Leave that plodding and boring game where it belongs.

I loved creature handler and then beast master. Summoned sorc pets don't quite feel the same due to their lack of customization and variety. The hours it took to gather the best materials, then to craft the beast of your dreams.

Housing, as was previously mentioned, was the best in terms of the depth of in-game items it allowed you to place. The controls / mechanics weren't nearly as nice as some newer games however. But because SWG supported macros there were some amazing creations that were made. DNA strands made out of krayt dragon pearls. Going along with the housing, were the trophies you could loot and then display, truly allowing you to show off your achievements for others. As some items were taken out of the game periodically, it also let elder players distinguish themselves by their collections.

The crafting was very involved, but not as involved as The Repopulation. Materials had different qualities and different spawns. You could place harvesters to gather for you. Crafters were truly able to distinguish themselves from one another based upon the quality of the components and sub components that went into their crafted goods.

You placed vendors in your houses. It gave people a reason to travel to otherwise desolate areas. And then good salespeople rewarded them by having a fully decorated establishment.

It's true that SWG is dead and but a memory, but its a fond memory.

As a SWG veteran, I can only surmise what the OP is talking about.

Housing was mentioned, but, unlike other MMOs, the housing in SWG was not instanced. This meant that the landscape was dotted with player-built cities and some encroached uncomfortably close to (or, in some cases, on top of) iconic landscapes from the movies. Unless ESO is rebuilt from the ground up, we won't see SWG type housing in ESO.

Portable camps with or without portable crafting stations, which were available for Rangers in SWG, would be a cool concept in ESO, but I can only imagine the clipping that would occur with the landscape. Again, ESO is just not designed for non-instanced housing.

SWG didn't have classes. They had skill trees which allowed you a lot of creativity and individuality in making your character; the only things that were locked were your race and gender and you could re-spend your skill points to make something entirely different if you wanted. This was a great boon for role players, but it also had a major impact on the tank/healer/dps trinity. ESO has some qualities of this. Although your character's race and gender and class are locked, you can wear any armor, use any weapon, learn any craft, and mix-match your skills as you see fit.

In SWG, you had health, stamina, and mind. Different weapon types attacked different stats. Blaster pistols did health damage, carbines did stamina damage, and rifles did mental damage (think shock and confusion from being hit by a sniper). Medics could heal health and stamina damage, but you had to visit a cantina (or use a Ranger camp) with a player who had entertainer skills to heal mental wounds. I don't see it happening in ESO, but it would be interesting to see different elements (fire/ice/shock) primarily drain your stamina, health, or magicka.

Other aspects of SWG (travel, mineral excavation, the UI, mission terminals, etc.) were deeply rooted in sci-fi, so I don't think the OP was referring to them when saying ESO should take more elements from SWG.

The only aspect of SWG that I would welcome is the crafting system.

My god... you think you've seen grinding? You don't know what grinding is.

Grinding is acquiring all the mats for your weapon, giving it to your master crafter of choice, and still ending up getting screwed by RNG. Assuming you even knew what mats you needed, that is, because there were countless combinations of material types and qualities that resulted in different final weapons.

You could easily be the greatest crafter on the server, not because you maxed out your skill like every other crafter... but because you knew the secret formula to success while everyone else had to figure it out through trial and error.

ESO:TU in general should have all MMO aspects across all platforms.

    Especially consoles:
    1. Text Chat
    2. More numbers and information
    3. Housing
    4. Barber/Body Modification
    5. Weekly/Monthly events (like a random big boss battle out in the wilderness)
    6. GMs that actually play on console

Yes and no. Making capped weapons/armour and other equipment in SWG wasn't quite jus knowing the right combination, it was more a matter of waiting and watching the resource spawns until the correct quality resources spawned, it was more a matter of time than knowledge.

SWG was interesting for what it was, but such a formula would need massive updates. It may have been huge, expansive and a true sandbox, but the world was empty and lacking interesting hand-crafted content. I'd love to see another Star Wars game with that formula, and maybe ESO could learn a bit from it, but I don't like the formula as it stands.

First of all gonna say people need to stop trying to make ESO out to be a collaboration of various games. ESO is ESO and while it may have similar or even possibly identical mechanics to other games it is still ESO.

Second of all it has already been stated that player housing and a barber are in the works.

And thirdly this is probably a troll topic seeing as OP hasn't replied not once since making it.

Take Professions from SWG, and expand ESO's NPC-guilds is what I say, like Hunters, Barber, Architect, Entertainers, Priests, Merchants, etc. That would give nice RP-twist to the game and more choices what we all love. Not to mention more non-combat stuff and player interactivity.
