welcome to the internet :P One that always niggles at me is when RPers call it "God Modding". The term was borrowed from God Mode, y'know, those cheats nearly every 90's game had that made you invincible. You aren't modding anything you twit.

How many non-US citizens know who or what Spokane even is?

    I'm English and I know ;)

It's a city in the state of Washington, and it's pronounce Spoh-Kan.

Yes, but can you pronounce Puyallup or Sequim? :P

If pronunciation bothers you, why are you spelling behavior wrong? Or is it just certain grammatical errors that bother you?

He's not spelling behaviour wrong, that is the correct English spelling for behaviour, it's only American-English that spells it without the U, and as was said earlier in the thread those Americans make words up as they go along :p

    Because it's not wrong.

"Behavior is the preferred spelling in American English. Behaviour is preferred everywhere else. Other than the spelling, there is no difference between the two words. The spelling distinction extends to all derivatives, including behaviors—behaviours, behavioral—behavioural, and behaviorally—behaviourally."

Look who looks very silly now.

    And thank you, @Belidos .

I think you misunderstand the environment within which you are playing.
    • You are either on the EU server, in which case, 90% of the people are using English as a second language.

    Or
    • You are playing on the US servers, and the Americans make words up as they go along.

    Hahahahahahhaha totally

Sure, but most people don't like pedantic behaviour of another. If they feel they are in need of some pronunciation classes, they will go to a professional. As a rule of thumb, don’t help people if they didn’t ask for. Unless their life is in danger.

I agree with you 100% on this point. Except that OP wasn't "helping" or "advising" or finger pointing at anyone in particular, just making a thread about the pronunciation of "malachite" (for which I also hear the most exotic versions in TeamSpeak :D )

Thread title is quite out of place though, I agree on that.

Thank you! And sorry the title is supposed to be sarcastic. I guess that's not a thing here

This is almost as bad hearing someone say "Motives" for motifs. Since when did "F" start becoming a "V"?

Since some words finishing with "f" have their plural in "ves" ? like staff=>staves ?? I'm never sure about that myself...
+ probably the confusion with the word "motive".

Well, Staff is the singular, while Staves is plural. I'm no English teacher/major, nor do I use or pretend to be perfect in the grammar 100% of the time, however. Motive and Motif are two completely separate things. Seeing how some may not realize that the "i" in Motif is pronounced with a long "e" sound and are instead pronouncing it the way you say the word "it", I can see how the "F" started becoming "V".

    malachite.

In English, ch as in hunch, church, chimney, chip, [T'Jhu] can also be pronounced as [K], ache, choir, school or in this case malachite. But complexity comes from words of European/French origin, such as in charade, machine, and nonchalant [Sh]

lacking knowledge of the pronunciation of a particular word is not something that can be helped I'm afraid. Just suck it up.

^ Legit. The English language is generally a mess when it comes to "rules" of pronunciation. I am a native English speaker and there are words in game I have no idea how to say.

Malachite is relatively an easy one. I find that folks have the hardest time with "Orichalcum." Many folks I have heard don't even try to pronounce it and just call it, "orc metal."

^ That is one of the words I have no idea how to say.

The word I've found people mispronounce regularly is "Nuclear" A lot of people say "Nuke-you-lerr". When it should be "New-clee-err".

Funny thing, but true. I learned to spell 'color' from reading Warhammer painting magazines which spelled it colour. So in grade school I got into several arguments with my teachers over the spelling of the word... and none of them knew (my English teachers) that it was spelled that way in English :p
