The players would like to see an easier tool to sell their stuff. Most think about some
Auction House.
ZOS says '
No'. And they are maybe right.
Instead of rephrasing the cry for an Auction House - while you know the response - we could think about another animal:
The Stock Exchange!!!
LOL!!! PinoZino!!! A Stock Exchange!!! Pino, you are a loser. ESO is located more or less in a medieval setting and Stock Exchanges are so present times.Eh...no.
In fact, they are pretty old.
- The ancient Mesopotamians had interest-bearing loans.
- The ancient Romans sometimes funded wars, buildings and constructions via a kind of share system.
- In France they had around 11AD 'courtiers de change' a kind of stockbrokers.
- In 1309 traders came together in Brugges (Belgium) in a house which was owned by some guy called Van der Buerse ('Buerse' or old Dutch for 'Beurs' = stock exchange). They bought and sold shares in trading goods but also in traffic routes.
Ter Buerze - Brugge
- Their concept quickly conquered Europe and similar houses were opened in Ghent (Belgium), Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and several Italian cities. As a matter of fact in 1351 it was forbidden in Venice (Italy) to spread false rumors to influence the share prices.
- The first real Stock Exchange Building was opened in Antwerp (Belgium) in 1531, London was a bit later. Their Royal Exchange was opened by Queen Elizabeth I in 1571.
The first Stock Exchange Building in the world - Antwerp (Belgium). Present times it is abandoned.
My point is clear I guess. Stock Exchanges do fit in a medieval setting.
History school is over, back to the game…
Not many MMO's do have a Stock Exchange. That would give ESO an USP. Not unimportant.
Practical, it could be arranged rather easy. They could open 1 Stock Exchange in every faction. Or they could make it more unique and provide only 1 Stock Exchange in some Veteran Area.
Buying and selling follows automatically the flow of supply and demand. The market will decide the price tags for the items. However, if needed ZOS can interfere.
It should be simple: you can only buy what’s really available on the Stock Market, you can only sell what you really have in your (bank) inventory. So no call options, no put options, futures or whatever. But greed is still good.
ZOS could restrict selling and buying only to members of a guild. Maybe it's even good that this guild should be of a decent size. 200 members by instance.
The current Guild Traders shouldn't be replaced, they can do what they do today. Probably the prices in the Guild Stores will influence the Stock Exchange et vice versa.
And now it's your turn. You may shoot this concept to pieces.
