Dueling is indeed something I want in the game really badly, along with structured small scale PvP (but that's a story for another time). Dueling is a great way to spend time with friends while improving your PvP skills at the same time. While the game isn't going to be balanced around 1v1 combat, it's still a great way to learn how to play against specific builds and to test your own. Or to learn how to handle PvP combat in the first place, as it is vastly different from PvE. Currently, there's no way to practice PvP apart from going around Cyrodiil or Imperial City looking to get your arse kicked by groups of unknown amount of players. Finding "fair" fights is nearly impossible in the first place.

Implementing dueling the right way isn't going to take anything away from people who don't want to participate.
PvE exclusive people saying no to dueling is the same as PvP players saying "don't make X dungeon". PvP players see "looking for group" messages for dungeons on chat all the time, but you couldn't handle the random player asking for a duel once in a blue moon? Shame on you. Get over yourselves and learn how to block / ignore people.

Can someone tell me what mmo that has dueling is balanced for 1v1?

Is that really the best excuse/cop out that you guys have?

Or is this mmo balanced for Zerg vs Zerg? Because that's really all I see in pvp now?

I personally wouldn't want it. I like ESO:TU without dueling. All it is, is bragging rights and "get rekt". How does this 'make friends'?

Even with an option to block the duel, one would get rude comments about their gender and stuff like that (due to being too scared to get their butt handed to them). The type of behavior that makes me keep zone chat blocked.

Duels within factions will expand this game so much but also expand guilds. People can duel and show someone how to fight a certain build or class and that will help them in PVP, which will help the guild overall. It will also give people a place to test new builds.

I can't tell you how many friends I made in DCUO and WoW by just dueling people, sharing strategies and tips.

It can really kill hours of time, it's fun and a great break from the grind that is eso

In the last game I played with duelling it was not "once in a blue moon" but constantly.Especially if you refused the first time.

After that, sometimes even if I put that person on ignore (and ignore lists are finite things) a few would get their friends to, effectively, DDoS me either by Tells or duel requests.

    Yeah. Fun times.

No, this isn't my first MMO by any means. Infact, it's my 6th (if you considered The Sims Online to be an MMO). Though the only MMO that had/has dueling that I played, is WoW.
Played WoW off and on for 8 years. While some people duel for fun, others do it to humiliate. And I've seen more than enough of that to not wish for it to be in ESO:TU.
Though you could say "well then no one can duel because 'a couple' of old sports duel to make fun of people. That's bias". And you're right. I am bias(when it comes to this). I would rather prefer dueling be not in at all, then have the option to block duels and made fun of because I'm too much of a pansy to do so.
This isn't like PvP, where there's an entire zone for it. If it would be anything like WoW, you could duel anywhere. However, if it was in a specific area, where you can opt in or out to duel, then I wouldn't mind the whole dueling thing.
    Just my opinion.

No. Not just wherever you like.

Arenas would be fine. Could be a big open space where people can 1v1 and / or private 1v1 instances. Either way they'd be somewhere private where those so inclined could duel all they like without disrupting other players. Their only audience would be those who specifically go to the arenas to watch.

Dueling wherever you like? No. I don't want to watch random morons showboating...

... especially not in cities when I'm just trying to run my own errands. I doubt the guards would really care for it either. Quite the public nuisance you'd be.

That's the point. Too many players have previously used dueling to be annoying prats. Ergo no dueling in ESO. That and the devs probably want you in Cyrodiil.

Sorry to hear that. The "main" MMO I played had that sometimes, but it was very rare. I got asked to duels every so often, but declining didn't cause you to get bombarded with whispers or requests. Persistent ones I met a handful of times during my 8 years of active playtime.

Might be dependent on server? I played on RP-PvP servers for most of my time and the player-base was surprisingly mature.

Quite possibly. This was a normal PvE server... much like the ESO ones. I don't think that the population on your RP-PvP server and the ESO megaservers can be assumed to be similar.

Duels in a separate new campaign with extra rulesset(no NPC or factions). Cyrodiil one big area to meet and fight, so much places are so good designed for small scale and are already natural arenas.

Nobody would be annoyed in PvE or in cities and PvP would stay in Cyrodiil.

They must have duels. The vast majority want it. Those who do not want, can have an option of not receiving dueling proposals.

The duels must be done outside of the cities.

Sometimes it looks like ESO was made by people that never played games. Don't get me wrong, I love the game. But there are some really basic things missing.

Why do we play? To have fun and feel good about ourselves (proportions may vary between players, but these are the reasons).

For lots of people, duels are among the best ways to cover the 2nd one. It's awesome to fight with your friends (or guys that will become your friends after several duels). It's a great way to both teach and learn: when my friend joined the game I had a really hard time teaching him all the mechanics - blocking, dodging and interrupting. and he eventually left because he didn't like it. I can't guarantee it, but I think there's a big chance if I had the opportunity to duel him and slowly let him practice all these mechanics with me, things might have been different.

Duels should be a natural part of any MMO. If you don't want to have people duelling like in wow through the city, limit them to some areas, but don't remove such a basic and useful feature.

    If duelling would really happen...
IMO that would be really great. :)
Certainly when there are also dummies to train.
and it could help us to find "combat mechanic" bugs in a repeatable way.

However, I would also like the option to duel in a standard resource level. So exactly the same resources for both players.
like one-make racing with cars or one-design with sailing.

There is sooo much grieving and whining about the unfair difference in CP's.....
I think personally that experience and play quality is key... but..
fine... here is your chance to find out how much L2P you still have to go... or not.. and it was indeed the gap in grinding.

    How?
Look in your death cap for the name. Send a duel invite. Both players can choose their outfit for free (like in PTC) and agree with each other the amount of CP they can spend.
and yeahh... that includes duels with players in opposing factions >:)

    Edit added:
It would also make possible, for 1v1, an absolute ranking system for all players with the ELO rating.
ELO rating is the standard way for chess, checkers, go and many other classic games to be able to rank a multitude of players with various levels and amount of duels played.

    Imagine...
not the title Emperor, but supreme Master of Arms. :o
