What would the harm be in putting in a passive mode to Imperial City?

OK, seriously, what is up with people in this thread constantly repeating this total lie and nobody calling them out on it? Has nobody in this thread actually played anything other than IC since the patch dropped? Pretending that you can't get VR15-16 gear (and hence the mats to craft VR15-16 gear) outside of IC is ridiculous. All you have to do is scale some of the existing dungeons to VR15-16 and you'll get VR15-16 gear dropping in them. No DLC required! Sheesh... Didn't anyone bother to read any of the countless threads from PC players ever since IC dropped on the PTS and then on Live? This has been discussed ad nauseum, and yet you guys still somehow fell for the lie that you can only get this stuff in IC.

They should definitely allow this for the pve only crowd. Of course, they should get no tv stones or, trophy vault drops, and minimal gear for mats. This will cause zero issues because all pve'rs just want to see the zone and do the main quest. Right guys?

So, you propose a new campaign, with no fighting in Cyrodiil, PVE only. Where have I heard that before.. OH, YEAH, EVERY THREAD like this since Beta. The answer is always, Cyrodiil, which now includes IC, is for AvA/PVP players.

    DOWNVOTE!

I already hate traveling in the enemies territories with some stupid cheesy "mask" magic spell cast on me by Meridia.
I want to kill people, gank people, I want them to be angry they died while questing.
And I too want to be pissed I was ganked and killed and had a kill stolen from me.
Get the blood pumping. Have a desire to be stronger than others instead of just outnumber the wall.

I miss the glory days of WoW and open PvP servers!

This is the only taste of that we get in this game.

    DONT TAKE IT AWAY!

You enable passive mode, you can't fight any other players, and can't revive any player who died in PVP, and you also have a permanent TV multiplier of .5.

    Where's the harm?

They clearly stated from the beginning this was a mixed PVP and PVE game where you needed to do both to have everything and be as strong as possible. PVP and PVE are both part of the main endgame alliance war in Cyrodiil. The IC mechanic fits exactly into their system.

Know the game design before hand and don't expect them to change it to be what you want.

If you want PVP and PVE to be seperated then there are alot of other games that do that. Guild Wars 2 might be more for you than ESO.

It would take away the challenge, the pumping blood.

You'd get your armor just as easily as all the other armor and it wouldn't mean *** to you.

To circle it back to the original question ... as a crafter who does PVE and PVP almost equally, please explain the need to craft VR15 and VR16 gear when the biggest PVE monster outside of the IC is VR14?

On a side note I'm a VR7 with all purple VR6 gear that I use for both PVE and PVP (seducers and magus), have only 60 CPs and was more than capable of defending myself last night in my first 3 hours in the IC. Do you know what happened to cause me to lose my highest total of TV Stones? Running into a group of 30 Daggerfall killing mobs in the sewers. Thanks PVE guys! Haha.

How do you farm champion points at VR16 avoiding IC?

Better yet how do crafters get the mats for crafting V16 PvE gear?

It's just dumb game design period to force the largest segment of the MMO to get ganked over and over again trying to do PvE related activities

what part of the IC are you playing in that you're getting ganked over and over again?

And yet you do not address the real problem of mats being locked in a PvP zone

Any gank is less time a PvE crafter can spend collecting needed mats.... They add up quickly in needless downtime when most casual non PvP players don't have massive amounts of playtime for extend time periods particularly older gamers with careers families outdoor hobbies etc so when they have two hours to gather mats ... Getting killed by gankers 10 times in 2 hours wastes playtime

Simply putting the mats in other PvE zones as well would solve the problem entirely

IC is fun and interesting but gets old quickly from a PvP standing with no real small group encounters to speak of

It must really be awful for those that do not like to PvP in the least just trying to gather mats I would think

I think the game you're looking for is "Plants vs. Zombies"

My wife complains that I never listen to her. (Or something like that.)

    Thanks UrQuan.

I got most of my V15 mats from opening the Undaunted chests with the keys I was keeping.

Also, they can be purchased from other players, so you don't even have to have the DLC to get mats. You can go farm gold instead and buy the maps.

    To the OP:

I don't think that's a good idea. I'm going to start off by qualifying that I suck at PvP. It's not that I dislike it, but there's so much other stuff to do in the game that I haven't found the time to research a good build and play enough to get good at it.

But I really like the Imperial City the way it is. If I want to farm mats, I don't really care about TV stones. If I stray too far and get killed, I will release to base and decon my loot to make more room. And you don't even get armor damage if you get killed by a player.

If I see a zerg in an area, I'll go farm somewhere else. There aren't that many zergs that you really can't move around.

    Edit: rewriting incomplete sentences.

Risk for Reward becomes No Risk No Reward, just like everything else in this game. Many PvPers welcome this because it is literally the only place dieing in PvP actually has a price.

What you mean is PVPers welcome this because they can troll and grief PVE players while not having to worry about dieing as much themselves.

Not at all. If you feel you are that threatened then you can always grab some PvP-loving friends by your logic to help protect you from the "griefers". Beyond that what everyone needs to realize is there is only 1 portion of all of Tamriel and Oblivion where PvP is possible and now PvPers have a new place to play in. Did ya'll complain this much when PvPers were killing you while you were trying to quest across Cyrodiil too? You enter Cyrodiil in general at your own risk but there has never really been any penalty for dieing in PvP until now, which made PvP of no consequence. Now that there is a form of risk involved, and on brand new content at that, everyone is crying about it. Not trying to be rude but honestly, get over it.

Point still being, max level crafting and being able to earn CPs is in Imperial Cities. You can tell PvE'ers all day enter at their own risk, but they shouldn't have to. Smoke and mirrors don't change the system.

Well the Imperial City was designed as a PvP zone so not much choice there lol

No it wasn't. Imperial City was designed to kill any cadwells gold cps grinding area and to give PvPer's warden keep status over all other's trying to progress in the game. The only reason this DLC is PvP is to keep players from progressing while giving Zos the stance to say.. Its there if you want it.. We are innocent.

You want me to PvP to get CPs.. That's fair.. Reset anyone's CP that was earned outside of a PvP zone.. and then it's on.. Other wise don't stick your twitch crew BS.. all over me. Trying to show them shining with 700cps like theyre any good at anything.. 20 years.. Since UO.. I will stick my foot in 98% of the player bases.. you know where.. And here I am.. Sitting here in this game.. Trying to earn CPs while some crud ganks me over and over.. with his 700 cps, and I'm suppose to pretend that I can't beat him because I suck.. When I know its because he has grinded in safe zones.. while Im playing catch up?

The only reason I'm still here is out of hatred. When I catch up in CPs. I will Dread Lord over you.

What are you talking about? It has always been easier to earn cp in pve than in pvp. The best, although maybe not most known about, grind were in pve areas, doing nongrind activites always gave much more experience in pve than in pvp. So what if, for once, its easier to get cp in a pvp zone? You still have perfectly valid ways of earning cp doing what you enjoy just as pvpers did before ic.

That's all fine and dandy to the replies thus far but I believe the point he is making is ...

PvE players do not want to PvP or even bother PvP players doing our thing

I think OP concern is PvE gear and crafting mats are walled behind a PvP zone

Let's not kid ourselves and say its hybrid lol

If the crafting mats and ability to farm PvE gear upgrades were in a non PvP zone as well the PvPers could enjoy the zone all they warned with zero complaints from crafters and PvEers

Saying tough titty wait for an expansion half a year or more away is a little much considering the top PvE gear is now gated behind a PvP Gankfest zone that is basically just Zerg after Zerg that's actually NOT real PvP at all. I am a heavy PvPer in many games this one is not what I would call a great PvP experience anyway but the game overall is great

PVE gear is not walled behind PVP grind. PVP gear is walled behind PVP grind.

Crafting mtas is not walled behind anything. Go PVE. Legends say you can get the mats there too.

Imperial City is a pvp zone. Learn to defend yourself or don't go in. You won't hear me complain about how boring PVE is when the next PVE expansion comes out.

you actually can't get the new mats ANY OTHER WAY outside of IC, other than hoping you get a single one from a hireling.

You can get all the mats from doing ANY group dungeons that are scaled 15 or higher. You can also get willpower, agility and endurance pieces from any of the dungeons.

You literally just have to walk into Cyrodill, port to closest keep, take a short horse ride to imperial city and you are in the safety of your base. From that point on I'm pretty sure you can port with a group directly to the IC dungeons from outside of Cyrodill. In those dungeons you can get your mats from deconstructing drops. The hardest part is the crafting (laughable to say it's hard). To get to the set crafting stations figure out what district the one you want is in. Take the ladder exit from within your base to go to that district. Now be careful and sneak your best to make it the 50 yards to the station. once in the crafting area you cannot be attacked as far as I know. Pick a campaign that is over populated with your faction or just not very populated in general, All of this is easy mode and can be done without doing or possibly even seeing pvp.

If you get killed once or twice big deal. I feel like people think going into cyrodill means they will get ganked repeatedly and not be able to do anything. I got most of the skyshards out there on my own deep in enemy territory. It's time consuming and you gotta sneak a lot but it's doable. did I get killed a few times? sure. did I kill people? sure, mainly in self defense. Is it a rush to be sneaking in the middle of a field as 20 EP ride by on their way to a keep? Hell yes! I am primarily a PvE player.

You can get the best gear from the Undaunted Dungeons anyways. The telvar sets are garbage, and the craftable sets can easily be made just by breaking down gear which isn't lootable in IC. The bind on pickup dungeon gear, helms, trophies, and the materials from refining are far more important than telvar stones. If you just ignore telvar and focus on farming tophies you'll end up with better gear and still have a decent amount of stones that you should use to buy crafting materials.

The best gear is gated behind PvE content as always since trophies drop from mobs/bosses, and best gear is bind on pickup dungeon gear from vr16 imperial prison and white gold tower.

The main reasons I saw for this are revolved around the argument that you that can spy on enemy parties and relay info back to groupies and guildies without fear of being stopped. also, the community is in its own war of PvP vs PvE and the PvP group is like the dominion...

This already happens in PVP zones.. players have mutliple accounts two of which would be in the same campaign. As far as I am concerned, they need to make it so if one one character homes a campaign, you cannot also guest it with another character.

You mean "of an opposing faction", right? Which I believe is already the case. Or did they change that?

I always have to be careful not to spread my EP toons around to much so that my toons in other factions can still go to Cyrodiil when the time comes.

There wouldn't be a harm to it at all. In fact it would keep their funds coming in for the DLC in the future.

I plan on telling all of my PVE only friends to not waste their money until serious changes are made to how you turn in quests, what you get as rewards, and whether you can get back to the bank without interruption by droves of PVPers running around Zerging everything in site.

All they had to do is look at how terrible Archeage is designed to know what NOT to do in the design of this location.
