Man, I just can't stop playing this game! I've used up all my sick days at work rollin for hours and hours using the awesome VC with all the hundreds and hundreds of players in game! My friend is especially happy since they have dyslexia and almost bought the PC version, until they realized it only had that text chat box. I applaud you Z for keeping the spam text chat out of the console version of ESO! Mic up, group up, guild up and roll peeps, this game is super! :)

Oh, this is a different friend, not the one you claimed was blind?

Actually there is voice on pc. its just not native to the game.

Hey, ur correct, there are several "not native" text chat options...not in the console version that can be used ;)

    I know, ain't it convenient?

Yep, as convenient as having to use teamspeak, vent etc on the pc.

    And now for the amazing endgame question that every text advocate always asks;

lol, well I guess I'd say that if someone can plug a controller up to a pc and roll, then kool. If someone wants a text chat box, then as someone already said, there are several text options not "native" in a game that they can use :) Just like the peeps rollin a pc game without VC have several not "native" VC options ;) Simple.

Yeah "Peeps" Mic uprollupgroupupguildup... Just make sure you "Clunk up" through the blazing fast "I can only use one Voice Chat at a time" I swear at least with Text chat I could communicate with several "Peepz" at a time without my screen going black and staring at said black screen for 10 seconds just because I wanted to /Guild/WisA/WispB/Zone chat/Trade channel...... Yeah This Voice Chat is S0ooo much better..

Why can't the devs just say "ok guys we hear your cries, we'll get text chat added within a couple of months"?

Is it really that hard to add chat channels when the player base is screaming for it night and day?

    So let's try this....
Hypothetically speaking....if this is added to consoles, what specific button presses and functionality would each console prefer to open up to type, reply to a whisper, switch channels, switch to guild chat, switch to say and switch to party chat?
Also how would linking and clicking a text sentence with links work?

Trying to change the tone of the thread and let's talk about preferences so if this were added it's done in a way those who want it, prefer to have it vs what ZOS may come up with

*Please don't just reply saying like it is on PC...instead be very specific

    Example:
    Console - Xbox one
    -Say =
    - group/party =
    - proximity =
    - Guild =
    - clicking text links=

    - Guild =
    - clicking text links=

d- pad right or hold options = open chat
    from there scroll channels (local,zone,group,clan,etc)
X opens chat keyboard. Or have a toggle in options to auto-detect usb keyboard
/r to reply to last whisper, /w to whisper player

Maybe add chat modifiers like colors for different channels or timestamp, which can be helpful incase you get scammed on WW/Vamp bite.

This has been covered already bet let's rehash this information since you missed it. Using Warframe as reference you open the options menu (already an assigned button) and then use either trigger to open or close the text box (not asssigned while in the options menu). The bumpers control navigating the text channels (again not assigned), but since we are technically in an entirely new UI all of the buttons are available for new assignment.

If you close the text box in the options menu it will not display when playing the game (PMs just provide a notification). If you leave the text box open when exting the options menu then the overlay becomes transparent and allows you to see the active text chat for the active channel (and receive PMs) but in a much smaller vertcal area (so you would only be able to see the most recent text lines instead of a whole page).

It really is that simple and unintrusive since when you are typing you don't need to move, so opening the options menu as a requirement is an optimal solution. Also, this allows you to close the text window immediately just by pressing the options menu button a second time in case something unexpected happens (no need to manually close the text chat first).

I hope this helps you understand how easily the text chat system would integrate into the current UI.
