Just found this link the the "Ask Us Anything" thread...posted by another user.

Thought it was a good read, but noticed the answers seem to be directly transcribed from earlier ESO Live episodes.

Just read several lame excuses not to do something. Nothing that couldn't have been over come. Many of the excuses are direct contradictions to each other as well

I still feel this thread has value, I just wish the posters were more constructive in their efforts.

As I noted previously the voice chat system that ZoS implemented is very bare bones and does not have any lobby customization options at all. You cannot password protect chat channels (or make them invite only), view who is in the chat channel before joining, or even give the channel a proper title.

On a side note, ZoS saying that they do not see ESO as an MMO is a huge part of their problem. Just as Modern Warfare revelutionized the FPS genre by adding RPG elements, MMOs have evolved over time to include elements from many other types of genres. While ESO is heavily influenced by the Elder Scrolls series it is still, at its core, an MMO. As a result communication with hundreds of other players is a fundamental requirement of the game. Also note that the game was marketed as an MMO and reviewed as an MMO so perhaps ZoS is developing the wrong game.

    No arguments there....

If you were around early back on PC launch and even PC BETA there was a very large crowd of PC players who said....

-This is a MMO and not TES make the game as such...

Those users were commenting on the rather odd usage of questing and amount of single player content vs group and MMO style content.

Then Craglorn dropped and you had a rather large group saying...this is a TES game, whats with all the MMO stuff

Now we have console and IC....and you see the PC reactions to IC.

We agree and disagree all the same on this topic and maybe others......as of 9/15 this ride will become very interesting for us all regardless of where we stand here.

Yeah, I am curious to see what happens when IC is released on consoles and ZoS has to split their efforts between support and future development. The last PC patch did very little to improve the horrendously long load times and they keep blaming the add-ons for many of their issues even though the vanilla console client has some of the same problems. I have no ill will towards ZoS but this is a critical time that will determine how long ESO will survive and I am honestly terrified at the future, especially since multitasking seems to be a huge problem for them.

Has anyone that frequents this topic that actually voted no (i.e. newblacksmurf) ever given a clear cut answer as to why they are so opposed to text chat that can be toggled off? I.e. they don't have to use it, they don't have to see it, hear it or dream about it.

I know that he has been asked this very question several times by different posters, just wondered if he has given a straight answer yet, or not?

If you prefer to go back and review there is a lot of detail in earlier pages and the tag will correspond with a users vote

So no, you're not prepared to give a simple answer to a simple question. That's exactly what I thought.

    ^^Agreed..

I was really REALLY Hoping ESO would be my "MMO for the Winter" I always find that for the winter months it is always nice to have a decent MMO to have on hand when the weather is horrible. But the way things are headed I dunno if ESO fits my taste.. I played the PC version, but I really like to play on the console as it was the only reason I bought my Xbox one. To see the game like this and so many people "My friends included" stop playing because it lacks basic things like text chat is enough to make you scream at ZOS lol.

These are things MMO players expect to see in any MMO!
I do not want this game to fail.. I have waited too long to see it fail. When I read they were removing the SUB FEE I knew things were bad.. But to see the console population drop off so quickly is frighteningly alarming. Sad thing is ZOS has control RIGHT NOW to stem the flow by adding enhancements to the game like Text Chat.

Welcome to the NewBlackSmurf thread folks.

Everything on that list has been blown out of the water by the success of NeverWinter.

Also everything on that list can be summed up with.. Laziness.

For the people that do not know .Any keyboard can be plugged into your xbox and used.. Also there are controller keyboards that fit onto your controller for less that $20.00.

There simply is no reason not to have text chat. It can be toggled off/on for those that find it a bother.
How on earth is giving people OPTIONS ever going to end up with nothing but positive results? Not only for the players, but more importantly for ZOS in the terms of sales and people playing/buying future DLC?

So bad, in fact, that many console players won't even consider giving it a chance on PS4/XB1.
(Of the 200+ people that were on my friend's list I played Destiny with when asked "Are you going to play ESO?" all except 8 said "I heard it is already failing on PC because the devs don't know how to run/make an MMO".
And, of those 8 that did come over with me...ALL have quit due to lack on proper communications & grouping tools in the game. )

And then, in one giant mistake, they release on console with it missing a BASIC feature missing.

How can they see, or not see, what they are doing wrong?

Oh I believe you. I had roughly 34 of us that came here from NeverWinter and some I have played Rift and even Asherons Call/WoW and a few other MMOs over the years.

There are only 3 of us left playing lol. As I have said before these are Quality players that any MMO community would be lucky to have. All of them adults and some Husband/Wife teams in there. They left for the same reasons you mentioned, but the one that struck me the hardest was that they feel like the development staff just doesn't seem to care nor interact with its player base. Some even point out that the majority of the ZOS staff are younger than they are and are flat out rude to the players base. While I personally do not agree with most of that. I will say it is sad to think there are players leaving the game thinking that way.

While playing another MMO last week I asked the group I was in if they had ever played ESO and told them they should try it with me on the Console.. They respond with things like. "You mean the MMO that doesn't have MMO features like Text Chat/Auction House/End Game Content?" ...... What could I say to that? It is not a shinning time for ESO when the mass public think this way towards your game you HAVE to make changes..

ZoS is made up of experienced professionals that have the knowledge and skills to make ESO a success. The problem is that they need to focus on building a community that will thrive. MMOs are not made successful in a year or even two, but are designed to generate revenue over the long-term. Initial sales are just the means to continue development. Just look at the failure that was FFXIV and compare it to the successful relaunch of A Realm Reborn. As a result how you develop an MMO is entirely different than any other video game as the basic features need to be implemented at launch and then can later be improved/refined over time.

For the record, babies are ignorant because they don't yet have the experience to know any better but experienced professionals know enough to avoid making uninformed (aka stupid) decisions. For whatever reason, ZoS made certain decisions and now the have to deal with the consequences of those actions. I'll be honest, I think ESO has a ton of potential but its management reminds me an awful lot of how Trion Worlds handled Defiance.

Oh he won't, i asked him three times the other day. Just ignored me, he's only here for arguments sake and to disagree for the sake of disagreeing. There is no logical reasoning for not wanting text chat in an mmo. Period.

I'll play devil's advocate for a minute and explain why adding text chat would be bad for ESO... it's because it would require further development time and this would detract from other things, like new content, that ZOS could be working on instead. Additionally, some players do not want to use an in-game, bluetooth, or usb keyboard and adding text chat would make it pretty much mandatory for them. Lastly, the console version was not optimized for it so there may be potential performance issues due to needing to overhaul the UI.

That being said, the long-term benefits of adding text chat far outweigh these reasons. Besides, both IC and Orsinium (Wrothgar) were shown over a year ago at QuakeCon 2014 and the community has been aware of the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood being possible additions for a long time as well. The lost development time is really not that critical. Having to use a keyboard is somewhat restrictive but text chat is used on cell phones as a main form of communication anyway, so its hardly a prohibitive factor. The performance issues are the only real hurdle since the console versions were not developed to have text chat from the start but considering how simple text chat is as a program it is one of the least resource intensive add-ons to include.

I'm sure there are some people that will disagree with me, so feel free to provide reasons why adding text chat would hurt the console versions of ESO.

Hmm not really because its already coded in and basically a toggle on or off thing. They would have to redo the UI, and that will take work but it wouldn't stop new content and other stuff because different people work on different aspects of the game.

It was there cause tests n' stuff. All they need to do is undo what they did to make it go away.

Man, I just can't stop playing this game! I've used up all my sick days at work rollin for hours and hours using the awesome VC with all the hundreds and hundreds of players in game! My friend is especially happy since they have dyslexia and almost bought the PC version, until they realized it only had that text chat box. I applaud you Z for keeping the spam text chat out of the console version of ESO! Mic up, group up, guild up and roll peeps, this game is super! :)

I'm not going to lie, but what makes me more mad about this game isn't text chat not being involved, it's the abysmal server quality in Cyrodiil.(PS4)

Someone explain to me why DayBreak games has gone from a horrible launch with Planetside 2 to a near flawless gameplay with hundreds of players now smoothly fighting aside each other? And with much larger view distances and air battles, bullets, etc flying every where? And PS2 was launched roughly around the same time ESO was launched on consoles too. Hmmm

How on earth can a company who isn't getting paid by every player, able to do such an amazing recovery and yet ZOS can't manage that? Oh yeah, they listen! That's what it is.

Since defcon has eso at the end of his name does that mean he has any affiliation with eso or is he just a troll
Please vote in the console text chat thread so ZoS can see how many people want text chat

...and dueling in the dueling thread but personally I want text chat first...
