I struggle to think how non-Templar classes can heal effectively at end-game. It's most likely fine for mobs and a lot of bosses, but what happens when you run into situations such as the Engine Guardian poison phase in Darkshade Caverns, or Vila Theran's draining phase in Fungal Grotto? These are moments where I think to myself that if I didn't have Breath of Life or Practiced Incantation on my bar then everyone would be dead. There are also many other scenarios like this where you have to burst heal the massive damage incoming continuously for around 6-10 seconds in order to keep everyone alive. However, i'm not experienced or knowledgeable on other classes skills apart from a Templars, so I could be talking out of my ass here. I just know that they don't have skills in the league of BoL and Practiced Incantation for healing.

Both of the bosses you mention are doable with stacking & springs which is available to all classes.... not the best example.
I can honestly say I haven't run the healing ult since v2. It's just not needed and it takes the place of an ultimate that either deals damage (Meteor/Nova) or an ult that allows for more DPS (Barrier/warhorn).

I'm a relative noob to the game (started July), but have been cutting my teeth on a "bloodmage" and it's just been so much FUN. It's never boring and I feel like more than just a first aid kit. When grouped with good players who are aware of the mechanics and step out of the red, we chew through dungeons.

Please keep in mind that my previous healing experience comes from playing a Holy or Disc priest in WoW, or a sorc in SWTOR.

You should see some of the all Sorc Trials runs to see Sorc healing in action.

I run Healing Springs on my bar also and I can tell you that when scaled to V12, the damage was still outdoing the healing, even stacked and at 1700 health a tick. You could be right though, and maybe the guys I played with had *** health/resistance.
And I absolutely love the healing ult, it brings so much value. Gives me 6 seconds to regen magicka while also making my allies almost unkillable (in PVE). It has a really low cost so with high crit chance you can basically have it available again 5 seconds after using it (or sometimes instantly). Plus you can't be interrupted and the templar passive gives you 16000 armor and spell res during the channel so you can just sit and tank a load of mobs if someone needs rez'd. Nova is on my other bar when needed.

I think a lot of it comes down to level of skill and experience. I have also had experience playing a "Combat healer" in past game. So it's not hard for me to see that happening on any MMO. While other people, who are admittedly good, just are able to see the multitasking power of a combat healer. Because it honestly rarely is played right.

I have been loving my nightblade healer so far. I healed into the veteran ranks with my old Templar and found it lacking DPS, CC, and just a good old fun factor. It felt like endless BoL spamming.

Now I've been told I was playing it wrong andthat is entirely possible. I think playstyle is a huge factor in being an effective healer. I passionate feel that playing any class that you love will make you excel at your role better than someone who picks the meta class for the role.

When I switched my Templar over to a tank, I didn't enjoy it. It's a class that lots of people say is the second best tank class in the game, but because of what I'm looking for in my roles, it just didn't work for me and I sucked because of it.

TL;DR I think all class healers are viable, especially in the new content. It's all in your playstyle.

Engine guardian poison phase is quite easy to heal through with just healing Springs, the group just has to be in sync in moving together to get heals from healing Springs. Vila theran is even easier since the group is always grouped together entire time and moving across the room when she ports to you and group again. I only use healing Springs on my templar healer in that fight. The fight I find difficult to heal through if your not a templar is the Nerenith boss on CoH. Everyone is constantly spread out and those big skull attacks to major damage if not dodged in time. In that fight it's hard to stay grouped because of the light crystals that follow each player and it's wise to not be near other players to make them over lap and damage one another.

I also run a dps/Healer build on my templar that has surpassed dps from dedicated dps. With recent update I am still able to pull around 15k dps on vet dungeon bosses. Before update highest dps I pulled on my healer was 21k against blood spawn boss. It's all about figuring out ones play style and building off your strong points in play style. Because my play style is definitely unorthodox but works great for me.

Also healing ward is the non templar BoL, just not as powerful and instant. What it boils down to is ones dedication to building a toon and finding ways to make what ever role you want to play regardless of class or race. I've seen unlikely builds work great. Sure, some builds maybe easier to run. But it's more fun to be different and successful.
