ZOS, please "fix" white/light dyes...

I just finished my VR16 armour (all legendary), all in all, it cost me over 1 million gold, but it was worth it...Until I dyed my robe and it looked like I found this legendary robe in a bin...It always seems to be the robe that looks disgusting. I'd just like to be able to have a white robe, please. I wanted to show off the Dominon Colours, but I guess I'll have to dye it a darker colour until this gets changed.

Compare the helmet, hands and shoulders to the robe. I'm wearing full light armour. I just want a white dye that's actually white... @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_RichLambert @ZOS_JessicaFolsom

I know exactly what you mean, I'm tired of how white dyes look like they're gray. We need a truly bright white type of dye that pops out, almost all heavy armor display white in a grayish color which is what really irritates me.

There are many good white colors, but it depends on material how it looks.
For example that daedric light robe you are wearing tends to "eat all white" and become more like gray or somewhat dusty/dirty white instead...

This goes for all colors and not just white and its a bit sad.
Color should look the same no matter what, it would make combining armor styles lot easier too.
Ofc the surface texture/reflection etc should change a bit depending on armor/material type.

edit: And some part of armors cannot even be dyed properly or at all:(

Hi, you're post gave me an idea. I have the Imperial Edition, so I'm going to create a VR1 Imperial Robe and see what the white looks like on that, if it looks better, I might change my daedric to Imperial.

Imperial looks grayish, well at-least for heavy armor it does. The one armor type that in my opinion truly captures white the best is the brenton style.

You've always got the three sections you can apply the dyes to on any given piece of gear, yet one or more of them seem to have little or not effect?

Why couldn't the dye screen preview the effected area when you hover over the slot, so you could spend more time dying and less time undoing?

So, here is what the Imperial Light armour robe looks like all "white". No idea why it comes out grey and beige when it's meant to be all white.

So as that's not going to work, I just switched around the colours, I prefer the original way I wanted to have it, because the white looked great on the helmet and hands...

Yeah u should try others too and not always the "brightest" one, cause like I said in my first post the gear/material can really alter those colors...So test even those that "feel wrong".

Once I mixed and matched styles and getting colors in sync was so hard..eventually I ended up using brown/white and yellow (in different parts) to get all gear parts as same "bone white".
Its a pain lol.

edit: Mostly if u mix and match different styles its a luxury if you CAN use the same main/secondary colors..

I've never done a trial. But I don't hold out much hope that even that white dye would make a difference. It would have to be a monumental change lol.

Seems to me to be more a problem with the actual way light armour cloth is made by the artists, then the actual colours. As people have said here, the whites look different on certain styles and different on light, medium and ehavy armour.

Hmmm, my guy is using it on light Martial gear.

Julianos White is the best white available. Lamae's White is ugly and doesn't dye correctly or bright enough ever.
That being said, Daedric armor eats white no matter what.

Also, Akatosh's Scales Gold is more of a Dominion oriented color than that ugly orange, imo.

I'm afraid you might be using the wrong white.
Don't get me wrong - I agree with the issues that Light and Medium armor have with not just white but really *ALL* vibrant colors.

However, I have to say - I can make most styles in the game (lacking Xivkin, Ancient Elf, and Primal) and the white I use shines very nicely on heavy armor. I'm not at home or I'd look for you, but I think it's Lamae's White.

This one also looks the best that I've found on cloth / leather but it's still a muted white...

Again, I still agree with the original post. Colors like Indoril Blue should absolutely be a vibrant blue on cloth / medium when they shine so well on heavy.

I use birch white and julianos white, so far they both look grey unless it's brenton styled armor it looks a lot more white on that style.

May I suggest Julianos White from the Aetherian Archive Completed challenge?

Yes you do need to complete AA however this is relatively easy nowadays. Unfortunately good whites in the game are very limited and the dye system itself is even worse. Take Transliminal Violet for example:

As you can see, on my Daedric chest/Kena shoulder it looks gold yet on my Martial Knowledge trousers it actually is purple!

The easiest way is to just ignore the description and check them all, most look nothing like the swatch.

At OP. Ah you look cool though. Are you wearing part light part heavy? Not sure if thats a sword on your back but you look like a swordmaster from Warhammer Online. If it was light blue/ white with bits of gold It would look awesome.

I actually made a VR1 piece of normal/cheap armour and had someone put julianos on it, it still looked like the pic in the OP.

I totally agree and it's just not white which this happens to. Some materials and styles tend to suck out the colour of the dye, which is unfortunate. It would be great if this was not so. It's so sad to work up towards getting the armour you want and then the achivement to get the dye to just find out it looks like it's been dropped in a muddy puddle.

Transliminal Violet is gold on gear with a shiny finish (polished metals) and purple/blue on gear with mat finish (cloth and leather). It looks really good on the plate of Xivkyn light chest, I will post a picture tomorrow.

I really wish they would fix the red dyes as well. Unless it is a pvp related red dye, they all show up as a type of pink. Same goes for black. Unless you either kill the Emporer or are high ranked you get stuck with the ugly version for strick pve players....lol

As a general rule I find that whether a dye is common, uncommon, or rare has a big effect on how well it covers and prevents the underlying colours of the piece being dyed from showing through.

So if you've got a rare white dye, that's going to be your best bet to use.

Also, on a slightly related note, painting white over a black undercoat is a pain in the arse and generally requires many, many layers of white to get even coverage and prevent it from just looking dirty instead of white.

as to the OP I notice this effect, but I like it. Mostly I like to try and make some of the Armour look a bit more authentic. And the system i think works in favor of this.once you learn how the system works it can make it much easier to know how to achieve what you want to achieve.

There are two contenders. Armour weight(light/med/heavy) and Armour style: some styles try to use more metals even on the medium and light versions (eg. dunmer ), and others try to be more cloth(eg kahjitt and leather based. eg Altmer)

because these two options determine the material's style and how well it is effected by dyes it seems it can make it difficult to get exactly what you want. Particularly cloth, and styles of the later materials (VR cloth crafting materials), and white. i think its more the style/material than the colour because whites can come out very bright on other materials.

I expect @P3ZZL3 is on about moonstone white? it has a blue tinge that can make it appear to glow on the right material.
