Trick to pulling those kinds of numbers is the requirement of the monster sets. With the rng in place you may never get the helm or shoulders with the proper traits and thus your dps would suffer. Notice how this reply I quoted said his dps would skyrocket with the Kena monster set... so good luck. Some people get them in one run and others like myself have done over 50 runs in each of the dungeons with the helms I would use and no helms. Good luck.

Anything between 10K and 14K is fine.

Don't listen to people saying that you're not doing your part below 12K and that 15K is easy, 'cause it's not. Those people usually brag with such figures without mentioning or even being aware that they reach them thanks to other group members "sacrificing" their own DPS by using skills for the entire group's benefit (war horn, combat prayer, elemental drain, etc...), and thanks to healers that spam-heal them so they don't have to move nor to be careful not to stand in zones.

Just reach 10-14K depending on the situation, stay out of zones and be careful not to die, and not to put too much strain on your healer, and rest assured that you are doing your part. And enjoy playing, that's the most important thing.

Not bragging and not saying that anyone isn't doing their part... we all start somewhere.

However, other group members "Sacrificing" their DPS.... you mean like the Tank running Warhorn? - Most groups have the tank run horn because in most cases the Tank has the lowest DPS output (there are exceptions), the group does more DPS as a whole with the tank's warhorn because it doesn't scale off spell/weapon damage or max magicka like DPS ultimates. The DPS increase to the rest of the group outweighs the DPS from one person's ult, especially when that one person is built for tanking, not damage.
Who runs Ele Drain & Combat Prayer?.... um, I don't know? Maybe the healer? You know, that support role that exists to support the group's healing and resource needs as best they can. And god forbid that the healer should actually heal the dps in order to allow them to kill stuff.... it's not like that's their job or anything right? Most Trials healers will split the responsibility of support skills between two/three of them and they will still contribute DPS in most cases... all done within their role.

The tank isn't sacrificing DPS to run horn... he's improving it.... the healers aren't sacrificing their DPS to heal the group or use skills that provide resources to the group.... they are doing their role.

Be careful of people that tell you that mediocre DPS is fine and that it's all about participation, it may set you up to be let down. When someone asks what kind of DPS numbers they need to be competitive at end game, I'd rather be honest with them, because a lot groups that want good scores or HM completes are going to expect a lot more than 10k dps. Ever tried 100% burn on the manti with 9 people pulling 10k.... good luck!

@Vordae I do agree that having fun is the main thing, that's why I set the expectations realistically... so you will know if your DPS is competitive or if it needs work. That way you'll have heaps of fun running with other good players in the hardest content the game has to offer, rather than being asked to leave the group because your DPS isn't cutting it. It's always more fun when you're doing well.

14-15k DPS is achievable with all classes.... is it easy? No. Is there time involved in perfecting your Gear & Rotations? Yes. IS it incredibly rewarding and fun to really contribute to a great run with a great group while pulling some great numbers? HELL YEAH IT IS!!!
