WARNING - To Special Snowflake Grinders

I remember one time I was up at the Zombie Road in Coldharbor. I had been grinding for a couple of hours, couple of Pugs formed with me and then left, but I was mostly solo. I went from L44 to L48. The Pugs all thanked me for the excellent pattern and efficiency while they were there. I was pulling 20 to 30 mobs at once solo and mowing them down. Along comes some player who then tells me that I am doing it all wrong and I have no idea how to grind. Sheesh.

Well, I got my revenge by just doing my pattern which totally messed his up. He was cussing me up a storm in Chat. I wanted to put him on ignore, but it was so gosh darn funny. Even better, he was there the next 3 or 4 days. So, I would start my pattern and the chat abuse would just start flying. I told him if spent less time cussing me and started following me around he would get more out of his time. That really set him off.

Now, that being said, usually if I come upon a spot that other people are grinding, I will carve out my own little area and leave the rest to them.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Now expect players demanding you to leave more frequently and even possibly reporting you if you dont.

    Another great and informative thread...

I've been in this scenario as both the grinder and the quester stumbling upon someone who is grinding.

When I'm grinding and run into other people questing, I simply avoid any mobs around them until they pass through. Sure, I may lose a little bit of XP and a couple seconds off my XP pots, but I certainly would never expect somebody not to play the game so I can grind. Although just the other day a solo player jumped in right when I was doing a big pull of 20 or so mobs and died almost immediately. Not sure if he thought he was helping, or was just trying to get some extra XP. So while I don't really care if I run into other people while I'm grinding, I would advise inexperienced players to avoid jumping into a fight when somebody is pulling a bunch of mobs, simply for their own safety. If you see me fighting 10-20 mobs at a time, you do not need to jump in and help, I can handle them :).

When I'm questing and run into somebody who is grinding, usually they don't bother to say anything, and I try my best to avoid mobs they are fighting. However when somebody decides to tell me to leave or not steal their kills, all it does is encourage me to "steal" their kills and stick around much longer than intended. What's funny is when they try to get me killed with the whole "pull a bunch of mobs and bail" technique and I still have no problem killing the mobs.

Moral of the story, try to be courteous whether you are questing or grinding, but also do not feel the need to remain courteous to those who will not extend any courtesy to you.

    +1!!!!!!

But I must say I am always the one "at the spot" people are trying to crash. I cannot count the number of times I have had Templars or DK's come into my grinding area and try to kill steal on me. I just keep on pulling packs of mobs as there is no way on earth that they can kill faster that I can. Also most of the time I am blasting music and just ignore them. I see the little white bullseye above them indicating they are following me around trying to talk trash, but I just keep on grinding lol.. Most of the time they give up and just move on. A few try to invite me to group with them.

My favorite is when they spend 20 minutes trying to out kill you and drive you away then they realize it isn't working so they try to invite you to join an EXP group lol.

I for one have been grinding MMO's since Nov 2 1999 this game isn't like they can drag enough on me to kill me like the golden days of MMO's lol .... Armored Tuskers anyone? :p

Yes yes we all know that is sad that some players think they own a public spot. Best option is to ignore them and continue with your grind making them throw there temper tantrum even hard since your ignoring them.

I don't care how many XP pots you have bought from the crown store.
YOUR game time is not more important than MY game time.
So don't go stamping your feet demanding me to leave an area because your XP isn't maxed out.
    These are your options:

    1. Go to a Personal area you can reserve for your own special snowflake use - ie A GROUP DUNGEON "INSTANCE".
    2. If you want to farm a PUBLIC AREA in SHARED SPACE in a MULTIPLAYER GAME......learn to share or go find another abandoned area.

There is no ONE TRUE RING of grinding for your personal use MY PRECIOUS ;)

Next one that asks wont receive a polite or cooperative response !

The problem generally is when someone that can't grind the spot shows up to leech.

The other problem is if you are there first, why is it you should be expected to teach the spawn pattern or pull pattern and carry along someone?

The concept of I deserve xp for being alive and I don't care if I adversely affect your xp while doing so is so "participation trophy".

I can say from personal experience that the leechers are also the complainers. Particularly the "I only spam steel tornado or elemental ring" leechers. There is no reason to allow someone to leech if you grind xp, all you are doing it teaching some big mouth a spot that they will tell everyone they found.

I'm not my brother's keeper and I'm certainly not my "not even my brother's" xp source.

Generally a little politeness goes a long way, and force sharing of a location isn't very polite. There isn't a zone without multiple grind spots, after all.

Lastly, if you show up and start trying to grind off someone and you never send them a whisper... it's you that's the problem.

P.S. There are a lot of blatant leechers in this game. They don't care, they deserve their trophy and most of the time it's going to be them that calls in the cavalry to screw the person that was there first and minding their own business and doing their own thing.

P.S.S. The entitled generation is the worst crop of uselessness I've ever seen. Sort of bad crops grown on fallow ground that think they deserve to be sold as good crops grown on fertile ground.

Just make sure, before you get all upset, that you had to take on those Welwas in order to get the mats and stuff you think you are entitled to. I take mats pretty close to mobs every day without pulling them, so if someone is fighting them when I roll up, I will still take those same mats. I won't take the ones normally protected by the mobs.

I've been criticized for assisting some random solo with his mob, more than once...it's the natural good bloke mindset I possess...see a dude in a fight, stop to help.
The same mindset that sees me rather useless in Pvp sadly...it's uncomfortable for me to attempt to kill another player.
I learned to leave them alone...
So then I stand back at distance and watch solo guys in Craglorn play with their mobs, saw a few terminated, & respawn to run over and attempt to blade me (Urm, you're Pact also & it's Pve area mate...) whilst I assume yelling abuse, but as I don't use headphones I cannot be sure.

Yesterday I'm grinding and a pair show up, take the mats from the mob I've just killed, try to firebomb me (again, Craglorn...wtf guys?), and jump about like lunatics clearly upset that they had come upon me as they were on their way up a hill...I'd been on that hill 3 hours lol.

It seems that there is no pleasing all the people all the time...

ZOS' fault that people get mad about excess grinders. After two players hitting a mob its a 50% reduction to XP that adds on for everyone hitting it. Stupid system

A guildie was doing one of those quests where u have to keep an enemy alive to control them. But she was having a hard time cuz these two players grinding the mobs would kill everything. She asked them to leave her one for the quest and they told her to leave. So she went to TS and told us and the 10 of us went to the spot, took a zone and proceeded to nuke the mobs every time they would spawn. The grinders ended up leaving eventually. Fun times ;)

    Apparently DC has less players.
But on the other hand, EP is more violent, even crabs will come up to bite you.

Why get angry? If someone asks me to leave, instead of moving on to the next part of my quest, I will switch to AoE setup and nuke everything in the area for an hour, or until they leave. Then I'll follow them and nuke everything when they begin grinding again. Suffice it to say I'm quite a sour and vengeful person.
