Getting ambushed while in cloak?

I've been getting ambushed while im like half way through my cloak, how is this happening? And I know that there's a million counters to cloak and I don't expect to be able to get away from everything with it, but how do I get ambushed while im cloaked? Just doesn't seem right to me

I thought that, but the eyeball when you go into stealth was closed, doesn't it usually open when someone has a detect pot?

    Possible reasons:
    - detect potion
    - piercing mark
    - lag
    - IC boss near you
    - mage light
    - cloak bugged

Because your stealth indicator still doesn't let you know that you are detect potted. I have given up hoping that this will change sometime.

I dont think so, if youre marked, you can still cloak and the eye closes, but they guy who marked you can still see you, det pot work like that too, only the one who drank the pot will see you, even if youre "closed" in cloak. 99.9% sure, but cant test it atm as im dl patch.

You guys sure about detect potion not letting enemy know he's been detected?

I sometimes mess with ganker nb squads, pop a detect pot while they're hid up for ambushing people on way to sieges, they panic everytime, they tbag the ground for a while and then go running behind rocks.Very funny.

Not so great for the bank balance, going through 200 of these pots a session =/

If you stealth, a detect potion will open your "eye" and you hear a "woosh" sound. If you cloak however you won't. Eye is closed and now sound. But the detect-potter will see you nonetheless.

Also mage-light, but the range is short, works well.
Piercing mark you can notice yourself. You have a huge red marker on yourself. Efficient purge helps
NPC's detect you and prevent sometimes cloak to work if they are immune to it. these are mostly bosses (in the sewers)

I think also some gap closers ignore it when spammed. Like ambush and critical rush. But that might be the case as the one also popped a detect potion.

"I am a nightblade. Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

This would be a 2.1 change. I have mained a nightblade for all of 1.6/2.0 and have had hundreds of times where my eye was solid closed in stealth (not cloak) and I was attacked, same as me just wrecking other players that from their reactions very obviously had no clue at all that I was seeing them even though they were stealthed (all classes, so also not limited to cloak).

Detection pots never showed up. What did show up was the fact that once you were near enough to that enemy, the normal detection of stealthed players (non pot, if you are near enough) was taking effect and the eye would at least partially open. That is all. Detection pots never ever showed up on your reticle.

Hmm odd. I had many times I was just sneaking through the forest and my eye would go open and close with a whoosh sound. No wolves, deer or torchbugs detected me. Then I was attacked and died by a player. And that was for sure in 1.6. Might have been magelight or the passive from a race then. I always thought it to be detect potions.

With enough stealth detection reduction bonuses (like medium armor passives or sets like nightshade 3pc) you could walk into another player without being detected. My guess would be that the guy was near enough to you so he could unstealth you even without pot. Let me guess, in those cases you usually died to a combo with a 20k+ wrecking blow opener?

Yes  I did die of that most of the time.

I also run medium armor + mage light so I detect most of the people in time, except when they have the class or armor bonuses I don't have.

Luckily it doesn't happen that much anymore. And I learned from it. Use wrecking blow.

Welcome to the common nightblade woes! Yeah, I often find its the same, I cloak, and a second later get hit regardless. Still better then getting hit by three wrecking blows in one second though, from the same person...

Since 1.6, only radiant magelight morph provides stealth detection, but I guess that was what you were using. I have heard, but never tested or gotten confirmed, that it was possible to reduce detection range to zero with 7/7 medium, 3 Nightshade and 5 Night Mother's Gaze if combined with Bosmer or Khajiit passive. That would make you undetectable except by pots. Huge loss in stats, but very annoying.
