So lately, I have been stockpiling AP in prep for the Xbox One Imperial City release. My question is: do alliance points buy the new v16 gear for Imperial City. I am looking for things such as v16 Shadow Walker rings, etc.

No, you can buy consumables with alliance points however.

You'll still be able to buy the old v14 gear etc with your alliance points but none of the new armor sets.

Some of the new things you can buy are:
    - Porting stone, a item which allows you to teleport back to your base camp.
    - Various potions
    - Whatever you were able to buy prior to patch

Nope The new gear is sold via TV stones NOT AP while old sets upgraded will be included only in the "rewards for the worthy" mails.

They don't buy any VR 15/16 items.

This was a deliberate design choice to stop players who stock piled millions of AP.

Most of the AP lock box sets now come in the rewards for the worth mails at your level, so they can be obtained as VR15/16 that way.

Why are people complaining about being ganked when these are so cheap...?

You need to be out of combat to use there, and it takes some time to use them. Most people complaining are pve'ers, they roll over and die when attacked by a pvp'er, so they will not have a lot of AP.

Plus, it's quicker to just let a mob kill you and lose a much smaller percentage of TV stones

It's sad to see this tactic is becoming more commonly used.

Why ? It's a valid tactic, not an exploit...

I never said it was an exploit. I just said it was sad to see it being used more as it's obviously against the spirit of the games content.

    Not really.

As a PVE'r and your forced into an environment that you don't want to do, just because it's the only way to get the gear you want, without paying 1m gold for stuff, why wouldn't you do it.

Hell, I don't mind PVP, but why would I risk my 800 stones (and lose upwards of 640 to get to a sewer entrance when I can just lose 80 and get taken to a safe zone?

Simple math with risk over reward really.

Now, if I was only going to lose 50% then I might well risk it... :)

Well that's what I'd like you to explain, "against the spirit of the game's content"... it's not obvious to me.

or ANY suicidal tactic could be qualified this way...

And even then... in a war situation there are countless situations where one would prefer to commit suicide (in order to not give info, not let the treasure or the ammos fall into enemies' hands, etc.) rather than fall to the enemy. Choosing the lesser evil is NOT against the game's spirit IMHO.

I thought about the low cost of the Sigils of Imperial Retreat as well, laughing it off. But alas, it is not so low. They are Bound on Pickup to the char that has bought them, you can't bank or otherwise transfer to your other chars. That means that for me, having switched main char, I sit there without any AP while the banked nightblade has 3 mln completely useless AP.

The AP generation rate is way lower in IC than what I am used to from Cyrodiil proper prior to the patch. I have taken to crawl back through sewers whenever possible (losing quite some stones to spawn camping zergs) since I barely make enough AP to port 3 times an evening.

So actually, these can be really expensive. My advise is to have all chars that you intend to play in IC, or have a possibility of becoming your new main, farm at least a couple hundred thousand AP prior to the patch.

    just think of it as a way to give a middle finger to players who are waiting for a boss and you to be almost dead before finishing off the winner and taking all. {bonus for said gankler being a shield stacked sorc}
