Zergs are groups of 2 or more players that kill you in pvp when you expected to win.

Zerg is one of those things that cant really be defined objectively as it is subjective according to player opinions.

An MMO is supposed to massive by definition and ESO is supposed to support large numbers of players battling it out.

However, I think most people despise what is commonly called 'zerg balling' where large numbers of players stick tight in a tiny cluster that is difficult to combat under current mechanics.

Now some would argue that keeping a large group of players in tight cluster is just good coordinated group gameplay (I agree) but there should also be the trade-off of a vulnerability as well. After all clustered soldiers on a battlefield are considered a prime target and often resulted is a cluster of casualties. Risk and reward?

The way I define a zerg in my eyes is when a group is large enough that when a single player dies or even two and does not matter you have numbers over skill. If you're in a 12 man group and a healer goes down its very dangerous. You have to be quick and smart on your feet to survive to either win the fight or get your healer back up. Whereas if you have a full 24 man raid and one healer goes down who gives a frick? Cause you have 8 more. Anyone can do the job and skill hardly comes into play. The only bad zergs you see are zergs without good leaders. There are alot of people who play in full groups who are amazing players but with them numbers it doesn't matter anyways.

    as I understand it....

A Zerg Ball is a large group of players using sheer strength of numbers to kill everyone.
...if you claim to have been "zerged" by three people you are exaggerating like a fisherman.

A Gank Squad is a small number of players using stealth and skill to kill everyone.
...getting "ganked" at mile gates or bridges is classic Cyro.

& Both can be fun when its you doing the killing.

Large groups of players in PvP content. allows them to replace skill with numbers, and just roll over smaller groups of players.

So basically... strength in numbers being used in a open pvp world?

How its that a bad thing?

I mean, i would love a more controlled arena dueling system.

Let's say that you have a really good six-person group running through the PvP content. You are all good players and have a good amount of PvP skill. If you come across a similar-sized group, your group always wins due to coordination and good tactics.

Then a group of 30 enemy players comes along and just wipes you all out in seconds because everyone in this group is just spamming AoEs as they go along.

It's a valid tactic, but it doesn't come across well to a lot of people, since it just allows skill-spamming groups to wipe otherwise good groups that are smaller.

Alternately, as the six man group, you wipe the 30 because you actually understand how the mechanics work, and then members of the 30 come onto the forums to cry about how they couldn't just overwhelm you. :p

Depends a whole lot on who that group of 30 is. Sure you could wittle 30 down who don't 'actually understand how the mechanics work' without wiping yourself.

    How about 30 who do.

Then the six are screwed. But, usually when we hear about it on here, it's because someone didn't know what was going on, and decided to come on here and cry about how nightblades/templars/sorcerors/dragonknights are overpowered and need to be nerfed immediately.
