And the "music spells" could be stuff like group buffs... offensive buff, defensive buff, resource recovery buff... perhaps even an "XP gained "buff... (would be neat if grinding groups went into battle with a bard playing a tune for extra XP gain...) AoE mob debuffs... perhaps even a AoE sleep/entrancement spell... etc. One tune per "spells", played with different sounds on different instruments (lute, pipes, fiddle, drums, whatever)
Any instruments could then be added to woodworking, giving them a bit more to do as well...
Only if we also get clarinets...I really like clarinets.

Or we could just copy/paste LOTRO's music system.ColoursYouHave wrote: »As a musician, I love this idea. I think it'd be awesome to have user created songs. Even just a basic interface where players can simply drag and drop notes for a specific instrument onto a musical staff.
If they really wanted to make it interesting they could even allow you to import MIDI files directly into your character's "music library."
Rare lootable song books that give you new songs to play!

Worse with uploading options...
I can't see ZOS wanting to invite that kind of lawsuit possibilities...
As for instrument choices, well, just because something was invented in later days doesn't mean much here, as long as its within the technical scope of the world. Some fudging possible due to magic... you can't have an electric guitar, but a guitar with mystic ayleid amplifier crystals might be a possibility... (though that one would definitely be a crown store purchase)
